Wayne county area wrestling '11-'12

  • Red Rum
The season is still pretty young. Norwayne, Smithville & Loudonville haven't even started turning in records to the mat marks column yet. I'm guessing things will take off after the new year hits.

Congrats to B.Stanley on the milestone. Being only a junior, what are his chances for the 2 milestone?

I'm not even sure what the wins record is, or who holds it, but I have to think Stanley has a shot.

Except for Dalton and Chippewa looks like some full or nearly full rosters for the WCAL teams.

Kurt Scheafer has the wins record, #11 all time in the state at 192,

Followed by Jon Beam with 181 tied for 20th.

Brendan is currently at 103, he actually notched 100 against Indian Lake last weekend at Marysville.....it is a slight possibility with the amount of matches we wrestle that he could hit 200. (An undefeated Bear could be 62-0 this year if my calculations are right)...thats assuming 3 matches at WCAL and 4 at Sectionals.

Zack and Zane should both hit the century mark as well this year at approximately the same time as long as there are no setbacks. Thinking positively, Im guessing about Marion Elgin Duals.

Vance is a good guy! I think he will do good things, dont underestimate Eisenhauer, Genet has potential too as well as little Hall...depending on bracketing both Hall girls will make a mark at WCAL and possibly move out of sectionals.

Whats the scoop is Matson Lance?

    Next year

Observing the box scores, I do not see Mr. Grier? Is that due to an injury? Is that due to embarassment from losing to Freshman Nick Steed? I have worked with Steed, he is the real deal. Nothing to be ashamed of Mr Grier. However, your post match antics of acting a fool towards opposing coaches is unnacceptable! Your best bet would be to drop weight...to 112....so you could get somewhere this year.

I guess quiet time is over?

Matson Lance is a Senior, I believe out for year with elbow surgery, at least this is what I heard.

That's too bad if true. My son missed most of his 8th grade year and most of his freshman due to injuries, hoping he will be back before the end of the year. I keep saying at least it's not his senior year. Get well soon Mr. Lance!

    Who wrestled Warner?

Kyle Zion made weight and got certified for 1st time at 126 and wrestled Warner. 1st time Waynedale has had a 126.
  • caged_bear
Thought maybe Zack wrestled him, just checking.

Zack wrestled him last year and won 18-10 in the dual. They were both at 119. We thought about bumping Zack but it was Zions 1st week making weight at 126 and we had heard rumers Warner was going 132 anyway. I am a big fan of the Warners at IV and Claymont, great wrestling family. Warner dominated his march to 3rd place Div.2 last year and I hope to see him in the finals this year.

Grier is walking wounded. I tried shoving him to see if he has a bad stick, but I just ended up in some dude's lap. I told the dude what I wanted for Christmas and then he gave me a candy cane.

Sounds like a close WCAL tourney this year. We'll have to crunch some line ups and see where we stand, not everyone is at their ideal weight.

I agree with Falcon that Waynedale is not a shoe in for the league title, however the larger the tourney and the better the competition the more they will shine. At county state champs lose and district alternates are champs. I still really hate our format. With the balance we're all talking about is it time to add duals to the equation? The finals of the league tournament is always a great fiery crowd and the purpose of a league is to have a group of schools committed to competing with one another. We avoid each other. Why not have more of that fiery mix? I know I've chewed this gum before, but its my favorite flavor.

Last thing. Congrats to the Stanley family. Its families that make this sport great.

I think he will be at 126 post season,he's pretty light, and yes the Warner's are a good wrestling family.

    just reading...some good input

Way to go Smithville on tourny win. Lookin' good! Didn't catch any individual stats this morning. How did it go for the heavyweights against Majoy(?). On another note Warner (IV) looked pretty intimidating (ripped) coming out Thursday night against the Bears.

Zeb is on the 100 win list already. Zeb hit the century mark last year. ..but i dont know his career record. I didnt see it on the state list. After this season he will be there for sure!

    Did I miss something ?

Congrats Coach Unkefer and the Smithies on your Team title.

WCAL is going to be a Clash.
  • Wildbear
Zeb should be getting close to 150. Probably at Cardington.

Kelbley wrestled him well lost by 1, but the Huron kid is still a couple notches better, Scrock also wrestled Hurons heavy lost by 1. I would put Scrock and Kelbley as pretty even with each other. Scrock is really starting to look like a physical speciman, and being a Junior could very well see him at the top of the podium in 2013.

    Thanks Beast.

The best thing about this win was watching the kids get into it, we just did not even have a chance at these tournaments in the past when you had to forfeit 5 or 6 classes. The DR. showed we were missing a few classes, we actually did fill all classes.
