On that note.....Zeb should have notched win # 150 against Chippewa last Saturday!!!

    Can you confirm this WildBear?

Yeah...I'll see if I can get a straight answer, lol. As you can tell we're not the "chest beater" types. Maybe more just gettin' the job done. I wouldn't be surprised. Let me know if he wins the state tournament!! I tell ya..things going by too fast.

While you are beating your chest..lol, How about supplying Zebs total takedowns he is racking up. He has to be nearing some Ohio records in that department and its something posters would like to hear. Yes, and it does go by way to fast! My twins have loved the opportunity and time they have had wrestling with Zeb , More great memories to come, Hang on!

On takedowns in one season he could move into the unofficial (?) #2 spot by seasons end. I think he would have to average a little over 7 per match to go over the top for one season. He currently holds the #3 spot at 379. He also has 724 previous. One match at a time. If they're there we'll take them but won't go out of the way. They do come easy though and just wished he could have nailed one of the 3 shots he had on Felipe this past season! Here's a place to check out the records, http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/records/wrrecrd.htm

I would put Scrock and Kelbley as pretty even with each other. Scrock is really starting to look like a physical speciman, and being a Junior could very well see him at the top of the podium in 2013.
    physical specimen??? hmmm...

I could see that...looked to me like he lost some weight and was more mobile. That just helps his cause!

Congrats to Jesse Young and Brett fortune on their finishes at MIT...That is a meat grinder!!!

I think Jesse was the only D-III placer in his class, and the same for Fortune, (unless Oak harbor dropped to D-III). Fortune wins the Garfield Heights District at 152. On the State level, i think he has Cowell and Erwin (both 5th last year) to worry about....A great showing at MIT at 52 shows he is ready. At 45 Jordan Marshall and Zack Wilson as well as possibly Harris (Beachwood) make things a little tougher. I liked what I saw out of fortune at Medina...I wish my own son would have kept lifting and gaining....152 is a nice class to be in this year! IMHO 38 AND 45 ARE stacked

Some pretty lopsided scores. Serious non-trolling question, was the level of competition as solid as you had hoped it would be or were there a lot of weaker teams in the tournament unexpectedly?
  • 1_beast
Overall, competition level was not as expected. However there were some good individual matchups....Bears have a very solid Team, and some kids are really stepping it up when the momentum gets rolling. We have our core of kids that have high expectations, then there are the kids on the brink that are coming into their own. Offseason work and Big Dreams...

I can tell you that the scores here are very similiar to the scores The Bears posted at the Marysville Duals, which is basically all D-I and a few D-II schools.

The Golden Bears are stacked! it's looking solid all the way through. keep doin' Wayne County proud!

Who wins county this year? I say Waynedale easily, where it becomes interesting is who places where behind them.

Northwestern has to be the favorite, but essentially it will come down to bracketing. So many teams have solid kids the match-ups are going to be key. Whoever wins the bracketing war...has the edge on the mat. Thats when it comes to the wrestlers to do their part.
  • zoocrew
I heard that the county tourn is going to be a pool tournament. That would take away the bracket games.
  • 1_beast
Interesting! Where is this coming from? Its the 1st I have heard anything about it.

Hmmmm anyone care to lay out some thoughts, pro's/con's.....

    Now this is intriguing.

I heard the same thing from coach Unkefer, that it may be a pool tournament. I have not heard anymore on it though.

Which would really be better? Can't pools get loaded lopsided also?

If nothing else, you are consistent-------------with the sandbagging:)

Waynedale is the easy pick for favorite status.

It's nice to see a more balanced league. Norwayne has a bunch of contenders. Northwestern is young and talented. Hillsdale & Smithville both have alot of potential. Chippewa has a couple of tough upper weights and Dalton at least still has a team.

I think a pool type thing would be entertaining. The more matches each kid can get, the better.

I'd like to see each team lock the wrestlers into their classes and then wrestle the other 6 teams in a series of duals. Add up the scores and records to determine team and individual champs. but that's just me. I also realize the drawbacks to that scenario.

    1. Northwestern BEAT West Holmes.....West Holmes BEAT Waynedale....Northwestern must be better. No sand baggin.

    2. It would have to be formatted carefully, as you cannot wrestle more than 5 matches in a day, therefore, if teams have kids at specific weight classes you may end up not gettin to wrestle the "Final" so you would have to follow a pool style, couldnt wrestle all 6 schools. Makes it very inconvenient with only 7 schools, not a balanced "pool".

    3. Is this the begining of going to a dual/tourney format? Where you dual each team...and then the tournament accounts for 50%-75% and the dual record counts for a certain %????
