Marion Franklin Beat Central Crossing today 35-37 @ Central Crossing. One of the most exciting duals we have had this year IMO. Michael patrick had a HUGE win at 160 to seal the match. Marion Franklin gave up 4 forfeits going into the match.

Line ups... individual results. Details please!
  • lowsingle174
I have to leave the details to Coach Ramirez..
I know that Vince Pickett is the real Deal, he won 15-0 against J.D Durroh. A kid who is no slouch.
    Marion Franklin wins:
    119 Kyle Messer
    125 Floyd Cisco
    130 Charles Parkham
    135 Dominique Pleasant
    140 Chad Jones
160 Mike Patrick over Gage Hysall(best Match of the day)
    MFHS was without 103, 112, 145, and 189.

CCHS Forfeited 215 and HWT, and bumped many wrestlers around today.
  • hizzmuther
okok... pickett is the 160 and Gage the 152 (usually... I think...). Where were Hardy and Hauber??? Guess I'll have to wait.
  • lowsingle174
Hardy Won at 152, and Hauber had the FizzzzUnk...it was impantiago (SP) or something, but it was hideous. Hauber did officially weigh in at 135 today though.
  • Coach Ramirez
Thanks for coming out today Coach Oney, maybe next year we can get another team to join us. I wish some of my kids wrestled with the aggressiveness your kids have. Good job today!

Thanks coach, I was happy with my guys yesterday as well. Good luck the rest of the year, and thanks for having us over. The whole set up was great. We need to get back into more crowd filled dual meets IMO.

I think there are perhaps a bunch of city league coaches who need to cruise the honors classes looking for lightweights... boys or girls. I'm certainly encouraging all of my small eighth graders... but that won't help too much because they all feed Marion Franklin.
  • 80baby
Hizzmuther I know what you mean about the lighter weights. When I started conditioning I had 3 kids slotted at 103 once we started practice I loss all 3 of them. Rumor control said they where saying that it was too hard for them. I’ll get over it and keep looking to fill that oh so important 103 pound weight class. Today at practice my 119 brought one of his 8th grade friends to watch us and he said that he wanted to wrestle for me next year. Stuff like that makes it all worth while her in the city league. Just think what could happen if every wrestler on each team talked to a kid in middle school and got them involved in wrestling the numbers in the city would go up along with the level of competition?

Wednesday night West will be host Briggs and Walnut Ridge in the third annual West Side Duals (don’t ask how Ridge got in this one) the two other teams Ready and Franklin Heights had scheduling conflicts and won’t be attending. As customary we will take the time to recognize the Seniors of the teams which is always and awesome event.

Hizzmother, I have a 103 and a 112, I chose to have them Participate in a J.V. tournament Saturday instead of matching up with Central Crossing. For those particular boys it is all about mat time.
  • nic1633c
The city will be interesting this year with no extras whats your guys take on it
  • nic1633c
Coaches will have to decide to leave some weight classes open to allow kids to wrestle in JV tourney, or let inexperience kids wrestle the big show and hope they dont just donate points
  • TechFall
    I like the idea.

If your going to want to have this tourny taken seriously, you need to run it like the State Tournament. Is it the State Tournament?, no but, for some, it is.

As far as bringing a full roster or bringing your best goes, bring what is going to be your best chance at winning the Tournament.
  • lowsingle174
    Agree'd.
I am not sending any J.V's to the Centennial meet. We have a scheduled meet that they will be wrestling in that weekend. Maybe next year I will send some. As far as J.V wrestling goes, I believe that most of my j.v. wrestlers have gotten at least 20 matches this year. They have enough experience and they know that if they lose their wrestle-off, they don't wrestle in the city tourny.

any other city teams going to New Albany this weekend?

any predictions on DQ coming out of the city? I got Jones from Marion Franklin and Gusan from Walnut Ridge as the two most likely.
  • hizzmuther
Who is this Patrick from MF? What is his overall body of work. He rolled over Hysell 11-4 which is significant, even if Hysell was giving up some weight. I fully expect Hysell to be a DQ at 52, so therefore.... Mr. Patrick should be there as well unless other factors were playing a roll in the outcome. May depend on which sectional they both go to. How about West... any DQs there this year?
  • lowsingle174
Mike Patrick Is Filandus Boyd's Younger Brother. He was a DQ last year at 160. He has had a few injuries this year and hasn't done much, but has the potential to be great. I wouldn't say he rolled Hysall either the score was a lot closer than it may seem. Hysall had patrick in danger more than a few times but could not capitalize. We will see at the end of February how far Patrick goes.. As far as west is concerned, they have kids that could break out at any time. I believe their best shot would be Tommy Johnson at 112, but they have many other kids that could go based on which sectional and what not. They have a good 145 who hasn't wrestled much or at all this year and is going to be wrestling soon named Dalton (not the bouncer from road house). He could make it out, and i think that on the right day Their 135-140 lbers could make it out. Not really sure about anyone else.

Well this is the week and Friday is the magic day when all grades will be posted and all teams in the City League will know where they stand eligibility wise that is if they don’t already know. It like I tell all of my kids “it’s not how you start the season but how you finish”. That goes for everyone but AHigh they have something complete different going on over there. So next week we should start to have a better ideal of what each team has to finish out the season with.
  • nic1633c
a couple schools said they arent sending any JV kids so my guess is it will be a failure and wont do it next year.......

and for DQ this year i feel like Marion Franklin has a couple, Cent. has potentially a couple, South possibly one and mifflin possibly a couple.

Someone no one has talked about also is Northlands 171 Milton i think is his name he is pretty tough
  • Fatmanroll>Peterson
JV tourney had enough kids last year and not everyone sent kids in. Great opportunity for younger kids to get mat time, and it makes the league tournament run smoother. It will keep going as long as someone will host.

I think he name may be Minstop or something like that. He is tough, I watched him take down Ready's Halko three times before Halko finally out paced him. By the way guys i'm going to try to have some rankings up by this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled.

Can anyone post details from last night's duals from West? or who won West vs. Briggs?
