WSJ reporting intelligence sources say 3 lab researchers went to the hospital for treatment in November, weeks before China claims it's first case on December 8th (which is like a month before they told the rest of the world).

If that turns out to be true, will it then be OK to call it the China virus again?

Irrelevant what it's called, I'm waiting to see what the US and the world do about it.

I hope it's not something lame like boycotting China's Olympics.

That still remains to be proven.  But It was always a plausible theory to anyone who bothered to spend 5 minutes educating themselves.

But that NYT reporter Maggie Habberman(?) should have been fired a while ago.  Her track record on anything Trump has been horrendous.  She's saying reporters rejected the story not as a result of journalism and research, but because Trump lies.  And stuff.

As close as you will see a reporter come to openly admitting ignoring ethics and standards due to TDS.

Drudge has become pandemic porn central, but cases are spiking again in Japan and there's talk of canceling the Summer games there.

Haven't seen that mentioned elsewhere, fortunately.  No reason the athletes can't all be vaccinated.

Hasn't the slang term "dick"  been well known for at least a century.  What parent curses their child when pairing it with these types of inherited surnames?

Had an old computer sales guy in Cincinnati named Dick Blower.

When I was an instructor in the navy, I had a student whose last name was Soileau (pronounced swallow). He was an E3, so his official title was Seaman Swallow.

Decades ago we had a carton sales rep who called on us with the last name Sexauer (pronounced sex hour).  One day (pre-cell phone era) his company called in to our receptionist looking for him and asked something like 'do you have a Sexauer there'; our gal said "sexauer? we're lucky to get a 10 minute coffee break".

Dick was not used today like we know until the late 1960's- early 1970's, compounded by Richard Nixon's actions

Does it really make a difference if this was a lab leak or from a wet market?  I honestly don't know which scenario is more concerning, although the latter is tougher to fix and likely to get worse.  And how is either scenario not China's fault? 

IMO, either scenario is China's fault justifying international sanctions until China satisfactorily addresses the risks.

IMO, either scenario is China's fault justifying international sanctions until China satisfactorily addresses the risks.

I cannot imagine in a thousand years ever getting an honest answer from the Chinese about this.  Nothing will ever be offered that offers conclusive proof.  I doubt it was intentional, however it started, but it has proven to be a good dry run of how germ warfare could be utilized.

I don't think it was a weapons program, or even anything more than an accident.  But it does sound like had China been more forthcoming, travel would have been shutdown far earlier and then this may have been contained to Wuhan.

When you have a contagion with this kind of geometric spread rate, days or even hours can make all the difference.  And the necessary response clearly lagged by WEEKS.

They're never going to be proactive with something like this if it happens again.  Sometimes viruses happen.  But if it was due to their negligence, the rest of the world will not get to see that.
