In more light-hearted shit, I read online today that GameStop is trying to say they'll remain open no matter what because they are essential. I mean, I'm a avid gamer and I had to stop, re-read that and shake my head over that shit. Yeah, dude, if you're talking about a gamer with tons of extra free time, no internet connection and really skewed priorities, sure, real essential... In the grand scheme of things, not so much.

"Bullshitter" needs to be a hirable position for stuff like this.

"If people are staying entertained in their homes, they'll be far less likely to venture out when they shouldn't.  Therefore, GameStop remaining open is actually good for the overall slowing of transmission in a pandemic."

Why is gamestop even open, whether there’s a pandemic or not.

I think it was ESPN that posted yesterday imagine if EA Sports just randomly dropped NCAA football ‘21 right now.

It would be the first xbox game I bought in like 5 years.

So Cuomo is shutting down New York to all but essential businesses. I get why, but how the are people living paycheck to paycheck supposed to survive this?

Yep.  What about closing businesses, are we going to allow office folks go to work in order to run paychecks for employees for hours already worked?  If you want some serious civil unrest, tell employers to stay home and not even allow paychecks to process for the next week or two.

Just got back from Kroger and it was fully stocked with pretty much everything. They had a limit 3 for a lot of things like chicken, beef, bags of potatoes, cleaning supplies, etc.

I've been having a good LOL at the moronic Socialist accounts on twitter posting pictures of empty shelves making fun of capitalism. But then, magically, the next day, every shelf is restocked.

The 24 hour Walmart near us has changed hours to open at 7am and close at 8:30pm so they can restock. The local Dollar General is only allowing the elderly in for the first hour. Both seem well stocked and Walmart has finally put the limits on items that you mentioned.

I don't want to jinx myself, especially since there are many struggling financially right now (those that work in restaurants, bars, been furloughed, etc).

My second job, that I normally only go work at 1 weekend a month (they pay me really well, about 3x an hour on a weekent what I make at my regular job), they want me to come in 2 days a week during the weeks I am working from home in my regular job.

I will have to swing long hours from home the other days and/or weekends for my regular job to make it work, but this can be really good financially for us (kind of double dipping, but not really).

Throw in the, $2500 checks the government is going to be sending us (or $3000, or whatever the number is for 2 to 3 kids) and it will be a good few months for us...as long as my regular job doesn't get "shut down" like Pennsylvania, NY, and CA have done.

I have been taking a lot of take out from locally owned restaurants the last week to help them keep going, and the rest of this "winfall" will be spent in the economy as well as I am signing the family up for a vacation as soon as the virus pandemic is in the "clear".

I've been very fortunate. Others are getting fucked and my company is helping out immensely.

A solid "disaster bonus" for every employee due to this mayhem on Tuesday and just moved up our annual bonus payout from mid April to today. Our CEO is a fucking saint.

We got our bonus payout right before all of this hit, so that was nice. They have paused all merit increases until this all blows over. No jobs losses as of yet.

That's awesome, that CEO should make whatever he wants/asks for.

My mom works for the local county government. Everyone they deemed non-essential, which was over half of the 3000ish county employees, is to stay home until further notice. They do not have to work at all from home (other than possibly answering some phone calls) and get fully paid.

My mom...was deemed essential. So she has to go in, and she had me help her on her home laptop last night setup her VPN to dial into their network in case they shut the building down. If they shut the building down the "essential" employees still have to work, just work from home at that time.

Doubt he's trolling, since last week, he was all "No, me go to gym and you can't stop me!" until gyms were shut down. Seems to be some sort of side effect of being really insecure, where you have to project an image of what you consider to be toughness regardless of how stupid you actually look to everyone else. Kind of like when you're a little kid and your parents tell you to put on a coat and you're like, "No, I'm not cold!!!!" and then have to act casual in short sleeves in 40-degree, rainy weather despite being miserable. With the added bonus of potentially infecting other people, that is.

Meat Heads gonna meat.

Same boat, got our yearly bonus right before the crap really hit the fan about a week ago.

Was going to drop the whole bonus on summer vacation, and put a hold on that until we know we can travel in the summer, and this blows over/job is safe.

Our merit raises are also on hold for now.

On a positive note, local breweries are now delivering free of charge on Caviar. I just got an $80 haul from Threes with "contactless delivery", where the person drops outside my door and texts me.

What a time to be alive.

My husband doesn't have to return to either of his jobs until at least April 20th and will still be paid by both. I'm still working remotely, which I've been doing for 2.5 years. We look to be very busy the next 2 weeks, but after that it will be touch and go. It really just depends on whether our customers stay open or are forced to shut down.

I've been "tipping" my regular bartender on Venmo twice a week, and will continue to do so as long as I can. We also plan to get takeout several times/week going forward.

Yep. A local brewery (Listermann) is taking email orders and delivering, or shipping, to anyone in Ohio. Another local brewery (MadTree) has two vans that are traveling the city as an "adult ice cream truck" selling beer and pizza door to door.

They better not take this away from us once this panic is over. This is a truly free market in action and it's fucking glorious.

So if China really has had no new cases, then I wonder if that malaria drug isn't responsible.
