I also think we could see sports back quicker than regular life. When testing becomes readily available, they can keep these teams in a bubble of health so to speak, and play games without fans until the general public is cleared.

It doesn’t really sound like much is changing. A lot more people working from home. You can still drive to your state park and walk around as I understand it? I think DeWine has handled this about as well as anyone could. The shutdowns have been gradual. He didn’t do everything overnight when it was too late. I’m betting they knew it was going to get to this sooner or later so they started rolling it out as soon as they could to minimize the panic and shock value.

The childcare thing is getting tough and frustrating. My wife and I both are in healthcare and work night shift so we’ve always alternated nights working with our kids but as shit gets busier we’ll probably need to pick up - we actually have a few nights of overlap coming up - and our parents (our primary babysitters) are trying to stay away and who knows how this daycare thing is going to impact us.

Can you hire any local kids to babysit?

Don't cancel NBA.  Just go right to the playoffs.

I want to see a 30 Team Playoff based on record 1-2 seed get byes everyone else plays a 3 game series based on seed. Then a 5 game series. Then back to 7 game series. That way every team is guaranteed atleast 1 more home game.

I saw a headline that Italy was increasing quarantines and further reading reveals many offices and factories were still open.

On Sunday in Milan, parks, streets, buses and trams were almost completely void of people, a change from the previous weekend.

Wtf? So as of a week ago, people in the sickest country in the world were still crammed in buses with each other?

One thing for certain, the timetable for getting test results is a fucking joke. We have patients in our ICU who have been waiting since last week. Some patients literally sitting in the hospital for no reason other than the nursing home won’t take them back until they’re proven negative, which is taking anywhere from 3-7 days.

Shit man, thanks for the update  like_that. Stay safe over there.

I think this week will be a good test to see how we all can adjust to the new normal. Last week had the new shiny oh this is fun thing. Now, this week is week 2 of this new everything is shutdown and cases are rising.

On a bigger note, my wife works for one of the largest medical distributors in the country. The PPE issue is real and dire. Yes 3M is making more masks, but that is a drop in the bucket on the need around the country. Most of our PPE is from China and they are just now starting to ramp back up. But, even then, there are severe allocation issues once it lands in the states.

My wife is the school district’s secretary to the Superintendent and all calls that go to the district office are being transferred Now to go to her cell phone. A little scary in that we might not be going back this year but cool that she’s going to have a form of work to keep getting paid (hopefully)

Where do you live again?  I think you should post as much as you can about all this shit.  It's good for people stuffed at home to hear from people on the frontlines.  Thank you for doing your job in these trying times!

A new test that just got FDA approval should start rolling out this week.  The test takes 45 minutes.  Not sure how many tests they can crank out, but it's a start.  Ultimately they need to get a home testing kit we could use ourselves daily in about an hour or so.

Umm Pelosi and Shumer are now wanting to add collective bargaining for unions, increased fuel emission standards for airlines, and wind and solar tax credits? What a bunch of fucks.

Once they are given the “green light” so to speak, I think you can count on around 2 weeks to get it all sorted out. Arena availability, television contracts, how many games they want to play, individual team revised schedules, travel logistics, etc.

I would think they are all planning this with a few dates in mind. But you don’t want to waste to many resources without that firm good to go date. If it hits one of those dates and they have the head start, maybe a bit quicker. But could also see a 3 week scenario if this goes a bit longer than anticipated.

Sports are important, especially for the psyche of the country.  I’m thinking Trump should meet with MLB soon and actually throw a starting date out there, just to give everyone something to look forward.  Something like:  “We are going to ‘Play Ball’ starting on June 1, and so between now and then let us all do our part to make this happen”.   Etc…etc… – would be something that we can all sort of work toward and look forward to…..even if it has to be played in empty stadiums at first. I am not saying do this now, but hopefully in say, 3 weeks from now, if we can start to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

That's when the POTUS needs to tell them to GFY - want to pass your agenda, then win an election.  No reason to mess around on this when elections are just around the corner.

It's posturing by both sides. The Rs want to allows the Treasurer to have nearly unlimited authority on granting who gets funds and how they are paid to companies. Plus, there is language in there now that still allows companies to get funds even if they fire workers.

I figured this would occur the longer we got into these debates on the bill.

Maryland Gov. Hogan essentially issued a shelter in place. He is ordering all non-essential businesses to close at 5pm starting today.

Ahhhh, so the Repubs are trying to cut red-tape and the Dems are trying to create it.
