That's why some want to greatly exaggerate the threat, because that's the only way some people will listen (especially if they aren't in the at-risk group).  But then the people who always overreact to everything start to panic.

Yep. It’s the prophet saying, “the better a prophet, the less he is right”

If we take all these correct measures and curb the spread and allow hospitals and heard immunity to recover/work it will seem like a gross overreaction. If we don’t, and it spreads like crazy, we didn’t do enough in time.

Government (and individuals have to abide) has to take the measures even though they will be ridiculed if it works by a large section of the country/voting base.

All is well with my wife and I, thanks for asking.  I've been meaning to provide an update here to give you all some perspective, but every fucking day there seems to be a new layer to this.  Anyway, it has been a very interesting and unique experience so far to say the least.  I will follow up with a detailed post soon.

Many years ago we pissed each other off a bit on here but damnit I trust what you say about what’s going on with this as much as anyone. Anticipating your words and thoughts being in your situation in Italy.

I’m sure my gym will close soon and that’s going to really bother me when it does. Getting that hour to go there each day keeps me sane sometimes. Going for a run outside or working out at home isn’t going to cut it. Idk, maybe it’s the losing your routine that hurts more than anything.

Not particular to reply to you and I have no idea what you do at the gym, but body weight is a great workout, or grab something heavy to carry around

According to Obama's former acting administrator of the CMS, Andrew Slavitt, we're doomed. Too late to do anything to contain it as it's completely out of control (according to him) with a minimum of $1.6 MILLION deaths over the next 12-18 months. If we use 14 months, as an example, 3333 Americans will die DAILY starting NOW. SMDH

As a precaution, my company has shut the doors for 2 weeks and we'll all be working remotely.

Also seeing rumors of a national shutdown/quarantine within the next 48-72 hours.

It's not hard to get to those numbers.  Merkel said 60-70% will get it over the next year or two.  So 200M infected in the US with a 1% mortality rate...

But the "breaking point" Gupta just mentioned on CNN was 1% infected and social distancing can't stop or slow it.  But that's 3.5M people.  I don't think we're anywhere near that.  The way people sometimes talk you'd think our hospitals are already overrun....but actually only 3500 people have been diagnosed.

Even if it's 20k people currently, that's a LONG way from 3.5M people.  It's not like there's been no ability to test people.

Hearing at least a 3 day national quarentine.  Shutting it all down.

If we are going to do it, I would rather do 3 days now than a more later.

Just get it over with

Was at a small little birthday party tonight, they were saying that state borders will be blocked off for this quarantine. Not exactly sure how that'll be accomplished. Interstates may be somewhat easy. Kentucky to Ohio too.

They didn't really say if it were just in the Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana area, or larger.

Beshear "warned" Kentuckians that if they don't stop their bar-going, he'll put in an Ohio-like ban. Seems like he's taking it serious.

3 days would accomplish absolutely nothing.  The incubation period is 2 to 16 days, and then at least 3 weeks to clear.

I understand you are already at risk from your job, but going to the gym and possibly spreading it is very irresponsible. Maybe not for you contracting (though if you did, we need you to be able to work), but passing it to others.

In MD, we went to the store on Saturday just to grab a few items to make some meals. The fruits/ veggies and meat sections were wiped out. But, the employees said the have another truck coming and the stores are just adjusting their truck schedule to handle the demand now. We stopped by yesterday and noticed there were in fact more items on the shelves.

As others said, people were nice and respectful in the store.

In Frederick, MD, there are no cases, but places are starting to shut down in an abundance of caution. Seems like people are being responsible for now. Let's hope that continues...

Why not?  Places like gyms are a great place to spread this stuff around.  Jesus just take a few weeks off from going to a gym and go do something else for fitness.

No, you shouldn’t go either. People like you who don’t head the warnings are why this shit spreads so much. They should all be closed. And, soon they will be.

New York state has just closed gyms. Ohio won't be far behind.

Don't be dumb.  You don't get bonus points for taking risks.  No game is won by not taking prudent precautions.

On the other hand, your life and the lives of those you're around can be improved or even saved by a little discernment.

Would you fuck yourself in the ass with a light bulb if people told you that nobody should do that?  Would you dare them to "make you" not do it?

Of course not.

Nobody should "make you" not go to the gym.  Or the movie theater.  Or a night club.  Or the neighborhood swingers' orgy.  But you should also show a little discretion and not go.

Thavoice basically being this site's poster child for why the government is choosing to be on the side of over-reaction due to the whole "I ain't scurred!!!!" self-defeating stupidity that a lot of people have where they think they're being cool and edgy by saying "fuck it" to the whole self-distancing thing.
