Went to Costco after work, it really wasn’t that bad. No TP (still don’t fucking get it), but grabbed 2 cases of water, some other small things, and 3 bottles of Vodka in case they close daycare for weeks. Prayers to all with little kids

Went grocery shopping today and was pleased how well it went. Everyone was being polite, both customers and workers. There seemed to be plenty of everything, except toilet paper, yet there still were some choices to make with that product. Workers said that as busy as they were today, it was yesterday that was a huge fiasco.

It was good to see the stock market make a big move in the hour before the bell. And now we have two days to hopefully settle things before Monday morning trading begins on the NYSE.

Interesting to see where the lemmings flock.  Plenty of essentials on the shelves.  The wise know they have plenty of unmatched socks in a laundry basket they hoped one day could find their match and can now actually serve a purpose.

We've seen this pattern a few times before.  They decide over the weekend the stimulus isn't enough, or won't do much, combined with an acceleration of new cases in the US.

Expect lots of volatility going forward.  Probably not [hopefully] like the last two days, but how I'm viewing it all is I thought a recession could hit 30-40%.  And I'm expecting a recession.  Basically invest it over a period of 2 months so I don't completely miss a rally, but also don't dive in before it falls another 20%...not sure what that looks like yet or what my triggers are.

Assessed my ammo situation today and wasn't happy with it. Went to a local gun shop/range tonight after dinner and it was pretty packed. They said they had been extremely busy all day.

But, now I'm confident I have enough rounds to kill any coronaviruses that show up at my doorstep. Solidarity, Spock.

I can totally see the typical shopping trip:  Walmart for frozen dinners, water and toilet paper.  Home Depot for tarps, propane, plywood and nails, and 5 gallon gas cans.  Gas station.  Local gun store.  Liquor store.  And the ATM (which isn't much of a joke - tornado or hurricane knocks out electric and there's no power to process credit/debit cards).

We probably need to ban flights from Canada as well (and basically close that border) since Trudeau’s dumbass hasn’t stopped flights from China, or any other infected areas.

Also, NBC news is spreading Chinese propaganda that the US may have started the disease there. Good work!

This is all going to settle down soon.  When it does it will act as a trial run.

Also I cant wait to hear about the North Korean body count.

Got the official WFH go-ahead from my hospital site yesterday. I can remotely access our electronic medical record so there isn’t really any reason I need to be there. We had a number of suspected positives come in through the front door yesterday.

After shopping my local grocery for a couple of items yesterday, I'm far more concerned about the mood of my fellow man rather than shortages/hoarding. There are always rude people, but I sensed an unusual anger among a number of them. I'm normally a concealed carry guy, but I'm wondering if I should switch to open carry in public places as a "leave me the fuck alone" signal.

You're sitting on the edge of your seat, eagerly waiting to see how many people have died?

No, it won't.

It will, depending on the definition of "soon". This epidemic will almost surely behave as most do, new cases will look like a bell curve. A  problem with the shitty job we've done with testing is that it makes it much harder to determine where we are on that curve.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how people have been behaving in Cincinnati.

....and the winner is........

Coronavirus.   All DoD travel is halted through 11 may.   I had 2 training events, both 2 week long, that I've had scheduled for 18 months get canned.   Looked like a longer wait for promotion.

The question is how many people will get it?  Or maybe the better question (the one that concerns health officials) is what will the active number of cases peak at?  I don't know if it will be as bad here as Italy, but it seems over 100k cases in the US probably wouldn't be surprising.

Merkel told her people to expect 60-70% to catch it over the next few years until a vaccine is available.  If it's as contagious as it supposedly is, I'm not sure how it doesn't explode across the population after a month or two.  I can't imagine how it's possible that like 2M people get it and recover every month.  I don't know how you "flatten the curve" unless you can contain and isolate the outbreak to a relatively tiny percentage (i.e. like 0.05% of the population).  But in that scenario, at most only about 5% of the population would get it over 2 years.

If what Merkel says is accurate, then we're talking 200M infected in the US, and probably well over 1M dying from it.

Seems pretty far fetched. I hadn’t seen this before but some French doctor said this is why Italy is so bad “ French head of ER explaining why Italy suffered so badly. i) Italy has poor primary care so everyone went to hospital ii) Covid-19 patients then got mixed in with other patients. iii) Failure to isolate patients suspected of having the virus.”

And cancelling stuff will probably help, but reports are that bars and restaurants are still killing it bc people have nothing else to do, and aren’t worried enough about this.

All is well with my wife and I, thanks for asking.  I've been meaning to provide an update here to give you all some perspective, but every fucking day there seems to be a new layer to this.  Anyway, it has been a very interesting and unique experience so far to say the least.  I will follow up with a detailed post soon.

That's why some want to greatly exaggerate the threat, because that's the only way some people will listen (especially if they aren't in the at-risk group).  But then the people who always overreact to everything start to panic.
