So now that we are officially in a recession, Manchin and Dems want to pass a $330B bill, that will somehow lessen it? K

Beats the heck out of the $1.7T bill they were trying to pass previously.  Another large handout for EV's...what a waste.

You have to wonder what they promised Manchin given they're so desperate for a win ahead of midterms.

It's actually a $700+ billion bill.  And everything about the bill is the exact opposite of what's needed.

How is this possible? Ptown, Kizer, and gblock told us that the SCOTUS decision wouldn’t leave it up to the states.*

*Not to mention, nothing is stopping Congress from passing a bill at the federal level.

My personal feelings are well known, I am against abortion in all but the extreme cases (live/death of mother, rape, incest, etc which is far less than 3% of all abortions combined).

However, my logical/political side says "if that is what Kansas people want, then they can vote in whatever they want, it is a State issue after all".

On the contrary I actually said it would backfire on the gop in the coming elections and they would lose major ground in swing states because most people in this country including republicans are pro choice. Terrible idea all the way around when they could have easily won in 2024.

Have any of you read the Kansas ballot initiative?  All it does is preserve the status quo with some form of right to abortion defined by the state government.  Depending on the elected state government it can go one way or another just not eliminate abortion in total.

I don't have a dog in this fight as I don't live in Kansas, but I can spot a national media narrative being pushed a mile away.

A gas pipeline that was held hostage.

The majority of the justices followed the constitution.  That's not a terrible idea; it is what they are supposed to do - period.

As for most people in this country including republicans are pro choice; that is false.

Take care.

I don't think that's correct.  A pretty healthy majority of the country seems to support 15-22 weeks.

It's almost as if pro life Republicans hid behind Roe v. Wade in the same way Democrat congresspeople used Roe v. Wade to get elected without ever codifying abortion.

As usual, QO is wrong.

About 40% of American's are pro life to the point that they only want exceptions for the really bad cases (rape, incest, life of mother, etc).

About 60% are pro choice at least up until the end of the first trimester (12-15 weeks).

55% are against any abortion past the first trimester, and 71% are against abortion past the second trimester.

For reference, most European countries are pretty much aligned with the majority of Americans, legal up until 12-15 weeks and illegal after that as most of Europe it is illegal after the first trimester.

The problem is the extremes on either end. The really far right that doesn't understand what an ectopic pregnancy is and don't want exceptions even for rape victims underage, etc. They are just as off the wall as the far left that have been going for 40 week abortions and even abortions after birth (give the mom a few weeks to decide if she likes her baby or not).

Both far looney sides acting like morons whenever this debate comes up is what causes these types of problems.

I am most definitely pro-life, I believe (as biologists do) that life begins at conception and unless there is a very serious reason that life should be protected.

However, even I realize that the best way to end this whole debacle would be for every state (or you know, actual Congress) to pass a 12 week deadline allowing abortions up to that point and after that only life/death of the mother (never happens past that point, they actually induce labor and try to save the baby) are valid reasons after.

More climate hoax

It's pathetic.  We're talking super-cult levels at this point.

Literally everything bad in the world is blamed on climate change, without any actual hard science supporting it 99% of the time.

Latest polling has Dems and Repubs in a virtual dead heat on the generic ballot.

It will be interesting to see if this polling is accurate.  Because the numbers didn't move in the month or two after the Roe v. Wade leak, and barely moved in the weeks immediately after the decision was formally announced.

Dems and pubs may be even but throw on the independent vote and it’s over.

No way Dems win anything.
