The talk is he will be back next week. Good player, but he could have not stopped the coaches on Friday......

I hate to say it, but the Huskies won't sniff the playoffs, aren't a WCAL contender and should probably get down to the business of seasoning up the freshmen & sophomores for a future run. The loss of Neer was devastating to the defense and when McKean plays QB the Huskies lose him as their only break away threat at WR. If there is a bright side the freshman safety got some big time experience and looked good.
Northwestern, if they can pick up the pieces, still has the opportunity to spoil someones season and upset a team or two down the line. As of right now, the only team they would be favored against would be Chippewa and that may be wishful thinking.

Its a rough Saturday Morning in Huskyland.

Neer loss was bad for sure, he will be back next week or the following is my guess. I for one hope they don't season up the freshman and sophomores for the future....they have huge talent on the field right now. They just got to figure out how to call a play other than up the middle or WR screen and they need to get back to what they did first half against Mogadore. We barely ran the same play more than a couple of times and had them on their heels the entire first half. NW has become so predictable it is horrible the last couple of years. The freshman safety gets beat consistently and a good QB will eat him up. His lack of experience cost them 2 or 3 of those TDs on Friday and previous games.

Wow Northwestern posters are coming strong on this thread. If this trend continues NWN might have more posters here than Dalton does.

So........ roll call time. What WCAL team is your team?

    Me: Northwestern (alumni)
  • bee_rabbit
    Obviously me :Northwestern

I came across this site by chance....had no idea it was here. I was actually looking for stats from the games...anyone know where to get them?

Did you know NW has a FB page? http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Northwestern-Huskies-Football-Team/299507562267

Notice they have not talked about their varsity team? I think the coaches have given up.....you should post this site link over there. I believe more fans will come here.

The Daily Record had game stats in it today.

Rittman vs Norwayne thoughts? should be a very intense game
  • Red Rum
    Bee Rabbit,

First of all, the freshman safety hasn't been perfect but he is only a freshman and I still maintain he played decent and hits hard. If you want to single out poor performances, there were plenty by "huge talent" upperclassmen as well. You have to play talent, regardless of the 12, 11, 10, 9 pecking order so many seem so upset about.
Secondly, it surprises me how fast everybody is ready to lynch Thut & the staff. This guy took the WCALs most pathetic program of the 90's and turned it around, if anyone around NWN knows football, its him. Have a little faith, he's not trying to lose. Sometimes teams that have alot of potential don't live up to it. Actually, its a common tale across the league and state every year.
And finally, I'm not looking to argue with every Husky Homer, we all want the same thing. We aren't always going to agree and that's fine but when a kid is singled out by name, grade or position HAVE SOME CLASS and keep it positive, don't single out players and place blame. There is enough of that to go around.

The WCAL is going to look pretty clear cut after this week as the frontrunners (DAL/HILL & NOR/RITT) face off and the basement boys (WAY/SMV & NWN/CHIPP) look to right the ships.

Dalton at Hillsdale is easily the "game of the week" and should wildly entertaining and competitive. The winner has the fast track to the trophy providing they can avoid the dreaded WCAL upset down the line.

Norwayne at Rittman. Congrats to the tribe, the streak is over. Although I'm still not yet a believer, beating Norwayne will shut me up. What ever happened to RittKid anyway? the original tribe fan.

Waynedale at Smithville. This game between 0-4 powerhouses is obviously taking place in an alternate universe. In this universe their records are usually 4-0. Oh how the mighty have fallen, if only for a year or two.

Chippewa at NWN. Here's to hoping the Huskies can pull it together.

RED.....By reading your posts i'm gonna take for granted YOU Have been to NW Games..... And if you know Football which you say you do You can not tell me What we have done for the last 3 years has worked............No one is tryin to Lynch Thut......It's just when you see us do things that work and never do them again it's very frustrating....I coached for years and sometimes you have to change the way you do things to get a positive result. Come on Red.......The spread does not work for this group or the last 3 groups. We have shown what works and they don't stay with those things. Listen..these seniors were undefeated in 8th......Lost one to Ashland in 9th by one touchdown.....and had much success on JV Just like our great bunch of kids below them. This system will not work for them either...Not necessarily because of the coach or the kids....but because like one scout told me in the stands.."We have the easiest offense in the state to defend against All it would take is a little SmashMouth Football Mixed with some of that spread and you would see a better NW team" Norwayne did not even send scouts ...As far as playin the talent i have no problem with playin the best kids and your right RED please never call a kid out on this public forum..these kids don't need any more Negative thrown in their face this season .......... Also Red......If you ever played Football or any other team sport and you had coaches that never motivated you or showed they believe in you ...it's an uphill battle as a team right from the start ....all a person has to do is go to the NW Football FaceBook page and see how the coach has givin up with the Varsity.......Believe me I realize at the end of the day the job is just not getting done WHATEVER the reason may be, but Red if your at the games and you don't see it, then your blind too. I feel bad for the seniors of the last 3 years and future...if our style and attitude does not change.......
  • Mr Miyagi
bee rabbit san........ Mr. Miyagi has been to a couple NW games. Mr. Miyagi does not like the spread with the group of players we have, and dont think they can play the smash mouth football on offense with the size of the players we have. The draw play isnt working and the wide receiver screen is just a bad play. Mr. Miyagi thinks they need to mix up the play calling a little bit so that they are not so predictable, try to actually spread the defense wit the spread offense. Without Neer they cant pound it down anyones throat and if he is back on a limited basis they need him on the 3-5 defense. I am sure people are frustrated in Huskyland . Going undefeated in 8th grade never means teams will be destined for greatness when they are seniors. Mr. Miyagi hears they have a really good freshman class this year...... should we write them down as contenders in 2013 ? As far as defense goes , they have a scrappy defense but wear down in the third and fourth quarter. What disappointed Mr. Miyagi most was the many ,many missed tackles and the ability of the opposing teams to consistently break outside contain of the DE's and corners. Surely coaches are not coaching to let them break outside contain. come game time players have to execute what they have been coached during the week. Mr. Miyagi doesnt think the freshman free safety cost the Huskies 2 to 3 tds the other night in fact i think he probably saved 4 or 5 tds. he wiffed on a couple of tackles but your free safety should never be your leading tackler, and the 2 td passes thrown were not his responsibility. And as far as QB goes when your QB is injured in preseason and comes back healthy, maybe he should have his job back instead of playing mostly on defense, to all Husky fans complaining about freshmen playing lets let the coaches put the best athletes on the field and not worry about what class they are in.

hipsled san...... Red Rum san knows more about going undefeated as a freshman and 8 th grader than you think . He is also is right about Thut has done more for NW football than any of their previous coaches.
Also Red Rum is not blind though he may miss a play or to while he is brushing his flowing lockes of hair.

4RINGZ ....... Mr. Miyagi always roots for the eventual champion of the WCAL. this year Hillsdale Falcons are his team
  • Mr Miyagi
And Northwesterns 5th grade team hasnt lost yet so in 7 years they will be my team
  • Red Rum
    Hips,
I've been to a couple games, my vision is decent 20/25 I think and I never said I was a fan of this 2 or 3 play spread were running. In fact, I like your idea about mixing it up. My deal is, Thut gets a pass in my book, he knows the game and must have his reasons. I watched him take the program from utter crap to respectability. He'll figure it out.

Miyagi is dead on about great jr high, freshman and JV teams. It guarantees nothing and counts for even less. Friday nights are different (crowds, newspaper, other classes, more pressure).

Still fired up that bee rabbit singled out a kid for blame. classless and pitiful. Coaches, other posters OK. kids-never!!
  • Havin Fun
Lets first dispel the myth that jr. high results are an indicator of future success. Success early may actually hurt in high school as high potential kids may quit because they did not get any play time in jr. high because they were not as big and fast as the other kids. I have seen so many kids who mature later in life who gave up on sports and would be superior athletes to the ones who stayed with it. We all know the big jr. high kid who ran people over and never grew another inch or gained another pound and is an average high school athlete.

As far as coaching goes let me say this with all due respect. We are talking about coaches who must be teachers first in one of the smallest divisions in the state in an average league. There are no football coaching masterminds in the WCAL waiting to be discovered and move to D1, college or NFL ranks. They are average guys who are for the most part dedicated to doing the best they can with the talent they have. It is easy to second guess them because they may not have any more knowledge than the average avid fan does. They will make mistakes as any of us would if we were in the same position. Hopefully they are more concerned with being good teachers than they are coaches. In reality there is probably not one athlete from the WCAL who will ever make their living playing a sport. Coaches are like the rest of us in every respect. They do play favorites which is why two of the best days in most parents life is when their kids play their first varsity game and their last!

Anyone think that the Wayne County Fair had an adverse effect on their teams in week 4 ? I know that NW had most of the week off with no school because of the fair
  • luckydog
Sounds like we're reaching for excuses now...............they lost............now get ready for Friday

Let's not single players out, that's the coaches job to do in films and on the field. I'm sure your kid is much better or whomever.
If you want to coach the team, apply for the job. Show some sort of class when posting, these kids read this stuff too.
  • Mr Miyagi
Whoa luckydog san.........not reaching for excuses ...... just asking if anyone thought their team was affected. won or lost....... does anyone think fair affected play?? Maybe your team should have won bigger ?? Just asking, ....there will be no excuses come fri night

bee_rabbit;488864 wrote:I normally do not post in things like this but I am so upset with our Huskie coaching staff that I had to register and agree with the above poster. What a shame these kids are getting the short end of the stick because the coaching staff refuses to change their "style" from the last couple of years. We are extremely loaded with seniors and enormous talent but we have become as predictable as anyone I have ever seen. If you can predict the sun coming up in the morning, you can predict what play we run 80% of the time....draw up the middle. We have 2 seniors and at least one junior capable of getting it to the house, but we refuse to throw it to them for some reason. Our coaching staff has given up on these kids already and not even giving them a chance.

Our defense has been stellar most of the year with some great play, but we decided to change the defense this past week which added to our confusion.

Our talent level on this team is better than the last 3 years, what a shame they will go down because our headsets are too proud of the system to try anything else. I guess it is way easier to tell the kids they messed up the defense, did not play with hustle and that is why they lost......which is what one kid said they told them on Saturday morning film review. Who holds these coaches accountable?

dalton has been dealing wth that for 29 yrs !!

The spread offense is very trendy right now but you have to have the right athletes to make it effective. It starts up front, the line needs to provide time and be mobile to get downfield. The QB needs to make quick reads and decisions. Recievers need to run quick routes and have the ability to get open. You need a quality RB with good hands to provide a safety valve. Does NWN have these?

If you don't have those athletes already you have to develop them and that isn't done overnight. By the same token you can't change from a ground and pound offense to the spread overnight either.

But don't run Thut out of Lattasburg in the midst of making these changes. He is preparing for the future and you might have to take some lumps for a couple of years. And during that process you fellow NWN posters need to stay classy and not air your dirty laundry on public forums.

RED .........Every one of you missed my point about the Junior High Freshman JV Thing.....Maybe if i talked like Mr. Miyagi it would have been More clear...........I merely meant that Even though the talent is there they don't have a chance in the "Friday Night" World Where we run 4 plays from a spread with no mixing it up.....Never did i say that just because these seniors were a good team then that it would translate to now....Someone said that smashmouth would not work with the size of our kids, that person did not see what everyone thought was a miracle coming down from the West Salem Gods against Mogadore ..Our Fullback getting the ball in the Power I And averaging 7 yards Then whisped up and never seen again.....................Our three back system that we use on 3 and short and possibly 25% of the time we have been within the 5 avg. 4 to 6 yards on ....non existent during our regular offense ......And as far as He'll figure it out RED.....what makes you so sure..we have been doin the same thing for three years now....look We are giving up over 250 yards rushing a game.....do you think they have tried some different fronts............Mr Miyagi would say Wax off the 3-5 and wax on somethin that might work.....i'm just sayin TRY....we are looking pathetic on offense.....do you see any changes?..........every team we have played has showed multiple defensive fronts to adjust to things...........You tell me if that is cockyness(is that even a word?), stubbornness...... or the only other thing i can think of as posted earlier they are just teachers coaching in the WCAL and they are satisfied.....Well whichever one of the 3 it is.....Thats a shame ................................................................. .........Beverboy, you say you have been dealing with that for 29 years...Daltons style was pretty straight forward also....but you had play action and counters to go along with some of your passing...Even when Jackson was running the ball, you guys kept people thinkin..........................Ringz............. If you are coaching and something is not working you know you have to adjust.....When we played we had multiple fronts and if the offense was not working we tried new stuff......Thats all.....Just try
  • bee_rabbit
Seems a few posts bring out the supporters in this forum...haha. Should be entertaining. I wish I had a kid on the team so I could hear first hand what is going on. I do know lots of people here so I am sure I am not off by much and have been to several of their games.....btw, I was sitting on the visitors side on Friday night of the NW game with some friends, and their fans were in disbelief that we never keyed in on defense and stayed out there and just let them run it down our throats. Several were telling me the play of NW before we even ran it. That is predictable.

What a weak comeback to say why don't you apply for the job and coach...haha. Again, who holds the coaches accountable? If I had a kid out there I would go talk with the coach and find out what I could do to help or how my kid could help out more, or what my kid needs to do to get better......but from a fan like myself watching Friday night football, I only call it like I see it. I have nothing vested there.

Enough with Northwestern for now, we really need to get back to talking about Dalton before Luckydog & beverboy run out of midol and get all menstral on us poor Husky fans.

So here we go......I don't think Dalton will be around 20 years from now. Education keeps getting more and more expensive and the cards are stacked against Dalton. They have a very small geographical area thats mainly agricultural (not great for a tax base). The manufacturing base is small and the competition from small private schools (Kingsway & Central Christian) isn't helping matters. The amish, each of whoms home is considered a church also hurts the tax base. A bigger geographical area like Waynedale can weather these storms. I don't think Dalton can.
I think the district will eventually be folded into Orrville or Waynedale. At that point Triway will probably join the WCAL. Any thoughts?......and don't worry about hurting my feelings as I have none.
