Norwalk St. Paul def. Wynford 28-21

Thanks Onedawgpain for your and all of Dalton's fan support since week 11. We appreciate it. We could't get it done tonight. The St. Paul offense's speed seemed just a little to deep for us in the end. Although our defense came up with some huge plays in the end and the offense just couldn't get over that hump. We certainly did score a few though. I said at the beginning I thought a touchdown or less either way. Seems like a lot of St. Paul supporters didn't think we could hang. We did we just got beat. Congratulations to St. Paul and good luck next week. Lets sneak that trophy back here to region 21.onedawgpain wrote: [size=xx-large]GOOD LUCK ROYALS!!!

RoyalbuckI agree 94hoops on the St. Paul qb what a player props to him. I know Tyler played with tremendous courage tonight and he definetly deserves the accolades that he is getting but Sweiterman is a beast also. Again I think the great difference was the depth of St. Pauls speed which is what I was concerened about from day one.

The speed worried me too RoyalBuck, but by god we made a game of it!Royalbuck wrote: I agree 94hoops on the St. Paul qb what a player props to him. Throwing hands up! What can ya say? -
zaurusGreat game from both sides. The flyer defense got the stops they needed. They need to find a way to finish drives. Inside the wynford 5 twice and got no points can't win games doing that. Again congrats to both teams on a hard fought game.
-
Jawz83Great game, Royals. You definately hung with us. I was worried about your size and speed, and for good reason. 3 stops in the red zone, I believe...that's impressive. One game at a time Flyers.
-
94hoopsActually, it wasn't flyer fans who thought that they would win by 20 plus points. It was people from teams that watched us dismantle them that were picking that score. I think NSP fans thought all along that if we played well we were 10-14 points better. Without a gaol line stand or endzone INT, NSP was that 10-14 points better tonight.
I thought the two little guys both played great games tonight. I know I talked about "The Wild Thing" Justin Wilde but #11 for Wynford played one hell of a ball game also. He was shifty and got a lot of extra yards where their didn't seem to be any.
Memo to other FC players - show a little class and try not to openly cheer for the team that NSP plays eack week. You man not want them to win but you shouldn't openly cheer against a team in your conference, root against them in your mind if you must. It just shows what little class some of the people from that little toen to our east have shown the last couple of games. -
footballfan
agreed. i dont understand why you would cheer for teams to beat the team trying to make your conference look good. the team to the east has shown low class like you said the last couple of years, and its jealously. if it were any other team in the fc other than sp in the playoffs, sp fans would be there to root for them to rep their conference94hoops wrote: Actually, it wasn't flyer fans who thought that they would win by 20 plus points. MessyDinosaur94hoops, great point on class from conference schools, Ticks me off! Tip of the cap to number 8, well deserving of some D1 attention I enjoyed how he worked the TE into it a bit, showing some love to the kids who block and run. Solid for the most part it seemed when either team needed to make a play they did (until the fourth quarter). Congrats to Wynford on a fine season, good luck in basketball this year! I am a little skeptic about both Kentucky recruits, don't get me wrong tremendous athletes both are, just don't seem like they are ready for that level. Never the less, good luck to both of them in the future! Thought Wilde stepped up tonight, love the decision to move him to running back. Anyways great win tonight Flyers keep it rolling!

wesflyer87I thought it really came down to the defensive stops & where those stops happened in relation to field position. The Flyer's stops pinned the Royals deep & the Royal's stops left their offense pinned deep as well. I wouldn't have guessed that field position would've played such an important role in this game. Congrats to both programs for an outstanding game & everyone who said each opponent would be the toughest of the year, absolutely! Looking forward to returning to Ashland next week. Go Flyers!!

oozwajI said if BW could hold NSP to under 35 they would put themselves in position to win, and they did. Yes, they had 3 redzone stops on the flyers to keep in way too close. Hats off to the Royals very nice big squad who played hard to win till then end.
I agree with Hoops....I was on the home side and there were many area schools rooting against SP. I just don't get it!?!? It would be like Sp people rooting against Stiebers and Phillips to lose at the state wrestling tourney. No Way. No class.
And worse......PLEASE tell me. Why were many many people streaming out of the stands with 3 min to go?? Are you kidding me!?!?! This game came down to the very LAST play. Oh my!?!? Stay home and listen on radio next time and save your money. Wow. Most were wearing blue -

I agree with you whole heartily on the field position statement. especially glaring in the second half. I also appreciate that you realized that it was the Wynford defense that made big plays in the red zone to stop you not just like all the sudden you guys stunk or whatever which is what seemed to be implied earlier. I think Wynford could neutralize your speed a little better with a short field and that helped us in the red zone. We hurt ourselves twice when you were down there with penalties. Wynford's offense seemed handcuffed with field position a few times but you have to give St. Paul's defense credit for limiting much of our success. I really felt like Brause and Niedy were ready to put the team on their back with 4 minutes left but we had those back to back negative plays that just really took the air out. I thought they stepped up on those last two defensive stands and made big plays. It was inspiring to watch Tyler's play, especially on defense the last quarter, knowing he could hardly move at times suffering from the hip pointer he recieved last week. He just wanted to give his team another chance and he was a big part of that not once but twice. I know he didn't want anyone to know he was hurting and he will KILL me for bringing it up but that kid represented the guts of this senior class last night with everything he had and hardly a soul knew it in that crowd.oozwaj wrote: I said if BW could hold NSP to under 35 they would put themselves in position to win, and they did. As for the fans leaving early. The vast majority of Wynford fans stayed utnil the game was over. I am disappointed more didin't stay to see this outstanding group get their trophy. It might not have been the one that they or we wanted but it is still a symbol of the accomplishments of this outstanding group of players. But more importantly then being great players this group of seniors are GREAT PEOPLE. The Wynford community should stand and be proud of each and everyone of them. Now for those in blue that did leave early some were WR fans I saw a lot of them go. But we do have some typical Wynford fans that show up for the final two or three games of the tournament run and then run their mouths about everything that went wrong and why did they bother anyway. God it makes me sick but it does happen and it happens in everysport at Wynford. I agree that game wasn't over to the last play. It was two spectacular teams going at it toe to toe and the better team on that night won. Congratulations and good luck next week. -

The way this senior class has meant the many challenges they have faced and embrassed their brother Jon Griffin in his battles should inspire every member of this community. I hope they get a day or two of rest and then are ready to begin the journey again as a basketball team. It hurts now but you will overcome.oozwaj wrote: I said if BW could hold NSP to under 35 they would put themselves in position to win, and they did. ArnoldWynford was the best all round team St Paul faced this year, Mogadore was comparable in run defense but was really lacking in speed. Wynford had more of that. Brause is a really good Tebow type QB, good quick feet and hard to bring down. But notice that the St Paul -defensive tackle- ran him down from behind in the fourth quarter as he sprinted around the edge. Not a knock on Brause, just an observation on why St Paul beats people with 5'8" 180 pound players.
Comparing Brause and Schweiterman, Brause is more of a D1 qb because of his height. But Schweiterman is the better qb at this point with a big edge in his passing game, big edge. He threw two perfect bombs, one for a td, one was dropped, both perfectly thrown balls. He just does not miss many passes.
St Paul had an edge in execution and discipline, only one dumb penalty for St Paul, while Wynford had a couple key false starts at big times. Livengood has a great disciplined program.
St Paul needs to get points when the get in the red zone. 3 times with nada, credit Wynford. -
oozwajNope, no excuses here regarding lack of points in red zone 3 times. They were all created stops by the BW defense. Except that the pick in endzone was an extremely poor discision by the qb, more then a great d stop. thrown into quad coverage!?!? defender still made great play on the ball to bring it in though......but should have never been thrown there. a FG would have been HUGE there and could have came back to bite Sp in the rear. glad it didn't........
FYI - watching the replay this morning on Mansfield station.....they zoomed in on all the people leaving at the 3 min mark. You could pick up many Norwalk varsity jackets, which are blue as well. Shame, must have been a good party to get to or something!?!? -
RoyalbuckThe typical line of thought on Brause is that he will not be a qb at the next level, although deep down I believe he wants to be. He was recruited by most programs as an athlete and many believe he might end up at tight end although Kentucky has not commited to that yet and has said they will give him a go at QB first I believe.
-
RoyalbuckAlso Arnold you are right about the penalties. Wynford had mistakes at key times. Either giving you new opportunites on d or putting us in bad situations on offense. This is the first Moyer team I have seeen with this many false starts in a season. This group was very aggressive but at times it hurt us and that was glaring at times last night. And no St. Paul did not commit those errors.
-
Sportscaster17Furthermore, holding you guys to 21? WTF, nobody is going to hold that offense to 21!
Ouch. -

I was impressed with his defense, was not expecting that. I also think #11 played a great game.Royalbuck wrote:It was inspiring to watch Tyler's play, especially on defense the last quarter
The big TE/DT #43. It appears that he was not in good condition or hurt. He played spectacular for a few plays, then took a few plays off.
The best game I've seen all year, two great teams. -
Sonofanump
Are you referring to the play where he scrambled towards the home side near the 40 yard line on the flag side? That was the linebacker and running back #44 who only caught him once he started to cut back. His speed seemed fine to me all night.Arnold wrote: But notice that the St Paul -defensive tackle- ran him down from behind in the fourth quarter as he sprinted around the edge. ArnoldNo you're thinking of the screen pass that was snuffed out, Wynford running back reversed field and was caught for a big loss.
I'm referring to Brause rolling out to the visitors side and #47 catching him from behind. -
Sonofanump
Then we have three separate plays, the bubble screen was back towards the home side and the runner went back to the vistors side near the same part of the field.Arnold wrote: No you're thinking of the screen pass that was snuffed out, Wynford running back reversed field and was caught for a big loss.

ButkusGreat game between 2 classy teams. SP left a lot of points on the field in the red zone, something they will have to correct if they want to play 2 more weeks. Wynford's D tightened up when the field got short to keep the game in reach for their offense. IMO the difference in this game was the Flyer's depth and their conditioning, they appeared to be the fresher team at the end. Once again a GREAT game between 2 fine teams! Good luck to the Flyers next week.

94hoopsI'm sure every team has a fan that likes to yell something at the opposite team in hopes of intimidating them. The one guy standing at the fence wearing a Wynford hat as NSP came off the field after pregame said "Boys, you look like our JV team. To the man who said that, "Welcome to Firelands Conference JV Football".
-
ArnoldLOL, thats a classic, JV as in Just Very good football players.
