The WCAL 2017
-
WooVaderGood luck and stay healthy to everyone.
I was wondering and got to looking. The last WCAL team to go 0 - 10 was Chippewa in 2011. The Chips had a couple other 0 - 10 seasons since 2000 and so has Rittman. Are there any schools in the league that have never gone 0 - 10? When was the last time each school has? Anybody know? I thought there would have been more since 2000, apparently it is pretty hard to do. -

Vader unfortunately you are wrong...the last WCAL team to go 0-10 was the 2012 Golden Bears. I'm hoping we won't see a repeat of that this year. I'm sure we won't, right beast?!?!?!?!WooVader;1874038 wrote:Good luck and stay healthy to everyone.

WooVaderSo much for research, I missed that team when I was looking. Ironically it is this years bears team that got me looking. I was wondering if they were going to make school history.

1486wdVery competitive wcal season so far. Dalton looking good, but probably glad to see the bears next week as they have been hit by injuries to two key two-way starters. Although I have not seen waynedale, the teams right above them in the standings, rittman, chippewa, are all tough and go hard. Northwestern and hillsdale look very game as well.

I think Dalton is in pretty good shape looking ahead. Hate to see kids get hurt.1486wd;1874161 wrote:Very competitive wcal season so far. 1486wdYep, in small school football, you lose two players and you often lose 4 starters. Neither one looked season ending to me but I'm no doctor. Regardless, I would sit them this week even if they could go

oldsmithieWell so much for my Smithies! lol took it on the chin from Norwayne!! Need to play a good game this week to avoid the upset by Chippewa! The answer to your question WooVader, the only WCAL team to never go 0-10 is Smithville! plenty of 1-9 but never 0-10.
-
WooVaderI wasn't sure if Smithville was the only school, but that was my hunch. After seeing Norwayne I'm afraid of how good is Dalton.
Thoughts on this week.
Smithville over Chippewa. I think this will be a close game with Chippewa being a physical team. A problem for the Smithies.
Dalton crushes Waynedale. Even if Waynedale had a decent coach, which they sure don't, this game would be ugly. Just a four more games for the Bears and then maybe they can get better.
Northwestern over Rittman. Two teams that I can't figure out. How did Rittman get smoked by Hillsdale after they made Smithvlle work for a win? How did the Huskies only win by 14 last week?
Norwayne over Hillsdale. Norwayne is a well-rounded team. Not sure about Hillsdale, how do you lose to Northwestern if you want to compete with the top 3 teams? -
O-TrapSo, for fun, I decided to see what Dalton's rank would be in other regions.
Good lord ...
D1R1: 7th
D1R2: 4th
D1R3: 7th
D1R4: 3rd
D2R5: 3rd
D2R6: 6th
D2R7: 3rd
D2R8: 6th
D3R9: 3rd
D3R10: 5th
D3R11: 3rd
D3R12: 3rd
D4R13: 3rd
D4R14: 2nd
D4R15: 1st
D4R16: 6th
D5R17: 2nd
D5R18: 3rd
D5R19: 3rd
D5R20: 1st
D6R21: 3rd
D6R22: 1st
D6R23: 2nd
D6R24: 2nd
D7R25: (1st ... this is their region)
D7R26: 1st
D7R27: 1st
D7R28: 1st
Some observations:
Despite being the (I believe) smallest school in the conference, they would make the playoffs in every single region if playoffs were to start tomorrow.
Regions in which they'd have a home game as of now:
D1: 2
D2: 2
D3: 3
D4: 3
D5: 4
D6: 4
D7: 4
In Region 7, they'd be less than 1 point behind 5-1 Massillon Washington.
Obviously, that doesn't mean they're as good as teams they'd be above in all those other regions and higher divisions. It's just to say that they've been REALLY impressive this year, and I look forward to seeing how far they go in the playoffs (they probably already have enough points to be in). -

The pure GOLD is while you keep trying to be an internet bad ***...we are NOT in uncharted waters. LOLOL Thats right, a tenured coach, with his system in place, compiled the 1st EVER 0-10 season. Keep dancing puppet(s)! LOLOLOLWooVader;1875182 wrote:I wasn't sure if Smithville was the only school, but that was my hunch. After seeing Norwayne I'm afraid of how good is Dalton.

!st year coach with a new system vs a "tenured" coach with his system in place? Sure cowboy. Is it the X's and O's or Jimmie's and Joe's? LOLOL I'll wait....wcalfan;1874133 wrote:Vader unfortunately you are wrong...the last WCAL team to go 0-10 was the 2012 Golden Bears. I'm hoping we won't see a repeat of that this year. Sooooooo, in previous years you blamed the coach but this year you blame the players? All I can say is I feel bad for the Waynedale kids. Stay classy. Oldest Rider2I'm not Waynedale guy and my team has some issues of their own, but honestly, what was Waynedale thinking by hiring him over any other candidate? I'd be real interested to see their applicants list. He's made many bone head decisions and mainly it's his staff.
I'd think as a first year coach, I'd try and surround myself with good football guys. Instead he hires a bunch of wrestling guys like his son, his ex assistant wrestling coach, and a former wrestler. None of those guys have any football experience past high school. I remembered seeing the one coach form the Seder days. The other guys I don't know much about except the one was a QB for the Bears in the 90's, but hasn't done anything past that. I know the last coach had a couple football guys. Where did they go?
How do you expect these guys to have much correct in the X's and O's? What I saw in my one game was a very bad scheme executed with a bad game plan. Waynedale is in serious trouble if these issues aren't corrected quickly. It doesn't matter the talent of the kids right now. Even with talent, they'd be a .500 team at best. -

Boy do I feel stupid now. You are so intelligent1_beast;1875563 wrote:Actually, you missed the sarcasm. I was asking a question...referring to wcalfan and his posts over the years. -
WooVaderMaybe you missed the sarcasm beast.
Talking to people from Waynedale at my church, I know there are many people not happy with how things are going. They were concerned with some "activities" that helped the wrestling program become the dominant program at the school and don't want to see the same thing happen with football. Waynedale football was a solid program before and still can be if things are done the right way. Some people have had enough. Check with your puppet master, L.S., and see if you can reply. -

WooVaderI thought Smithville would be the one team that could beat Dalton this year. Felt the Smithies could match the Bulldogs speed and deal with their strong line. After the Chippewa game I don't feel so good about this game. My prediction is Dalton over Smithville by a couple of touchdowns.
Norwayne vs. Northwestern. Norwayne won a tough game last week, Huskies on a roll, and this match-up is always unpredictable. I think I'm going to pick the Huskies in an upset, I just have a feeling.
Chippewa vs. Hillsdale. Chipps are too physical for the Falcons. I pick the Chipps in another upset.
Rittman vs. Waynedale. Will the Indians be the speed bump on the bears road to 0 and 10. Wondering if Rittman has some injuries, they have really dropped off the last two weeks. Some way the the bear coaching staff finds a way to get beat. I pick Rittman. -
oldsmithieDalton at Smithville! I think the Smithies lose this one BIG! It is a rivalry game and Dalton will have no mercy!! I lost faith in the Smithies last week and think they finish 6-4 again and miss the playoffs. Smithville needs to re examine the coaching situation!! The Smithies have not come close to winning a WCAL Championship since the Schrock era ended in 2011. I miss the days of good solid football playing at Smithville!

There is a problem with the coaching at smithville. Clock management is horrible and cost us a win at Chippewa. We have a RB averaging over 7 yards a carry but yet he only gets 4 to 7 carries a game, we hardly use him,,,why??? But more than anything why are there only 30 kids playing football and 31 playing soccer? I think it is a direct reflection on the coaching staff not building relationship with these kids, but its kinda hard to do when not one coach on the staff is teacher or anything. No one at school during the day to recruit or build relationships with these boys. These problems have always been there but a 5-0 start will hide things but 2 losses in a row will make them noticeable again.oldsmithie;1876698 wrote:Dalton at Smithville! 1486wdI have been pretty impressed by Dalton's resiliency at times this year. When dalessandro got hurt in the first series, I would not have bet on them to win, but the team rose above and bidlack has been very solid (dom was a very good db as well). They have looked well coached all year
