Wayne County Athletic League Football 2014

Heard that Chippewa physically dominated Sandy Valley. Varsity won 3 TD's to zero. The report I got was Chippewa did not throw much at all, and the QB did not run at all.

Any reports from Triway & Northwestern Scrimmage?
  • pdracer
Things did not look good for northwestern. Triway pretty much did whatever they wanted. Northwestern had some size, but thats about it. We Stayed about an hour and a half and coukdnt take anymore.

Ive been told that norwayne did not bring much to the table last night with black river but that could just be rumor. Anyone going to break that game down for us?

So in your opinion is Triway the real deal, I have heard they have whipped everyone in 7 on 7 but I don't put much stock in those drills, its much different when you knock heads.

Triway should be very strong this year. They have the core of last years playoff team back, and obviously Carmichael is excellent. Northwestern will be in rebuilding mode.

Triway should dominate 7 on 7, as that is what they do. Very few of the teams they face pass the ball 95% of the time. Not to take anything away from them, as they have put the time and effort to be excellent in that area, but I can expect that if Triway were to strictly go into a "rushing" scrimmage, they would probably look a little more vulnerable.

I believe Triway is the real deal, but I don't expect them to run the table.

So the only WCAL team that gets a shot at them is Waynedale in week 3, can Waynedale pull an upset here an bring Triways computer points in into the WCAL to fight over? Can anyone from Waynedale let us know if you have the personal to match up with the air show Triways bringing to town in week 3. Hope you can pull this off it might help a couple teams in the playoff picture. Let us know the WCAL will be pulling for you.

We will have to wait till after this Friday's scrimmage with Indian Valley. Waynedale's defense against Newcomerstown was looking good. They had some big kids out against Tuslaw and the O line looked weak. Strausbaugh look good and I think he will be a big threat against Triways passing game.

Carmichael and Co. could lead the Titans to the Final 4...

That is good news!!! Strasbaugh will be a factor in the triway game on offense. Im not sure on defense, depending on movement. Im just a fan, but I guarantee they will not throw Strasbaughs way. If the D line is sold, Stanley could run Carmichael down. Pipe dreams, as IMHO the Bears will be good...but I think triway will be crazy good.

May be true, but on any given Friday or Saturday night Mother Nature could ground this attack(wind, rain, sleet or snow. Heck this is Ohio you might have all four the same night). What's some of the other big computer point non-league games. Norwayne, CVCA week 2? has anyone heard anything about CVCA. Smithville & Tuslaw week 1. What does Hillsdale have their first 3 weeks. I'm hoping for the WCAL to go 12-12 in the first 3 weeks, but 16-8 or 18-6 would maybe get 3 teams into the post season. Just hope we all get off to a get start in week 1. Its all about momentum and confidence.

I did not attend the scrimmage this past week but I heard there was good and bad. I think the Cats might be a year away from being back in the mix. I think it will come down to Chippewa and the Bears for the WCAL crown.

As far as the Triway thing goes, I think they may be able to make a deep run.

Rumor floating around that a few norwayne starters will be sitting out the first few games due to some late night extracurricular activities. Any truth to that rumor?

Now I have not been to a game in a few years because of my work schedule, but I have to say it might be the the best looking team I have seen since my graduating class (and other than maybe the class behind me). They seem to hit as a team, didn't avoid contact, and our DBs were able to cover some receivers (haven't seen that in a while). Now I know its only a scrimmage, but you could of fooled me and the boys sure didn't play soft like it wasn't a full game! Looking forward to getting to some games this year, because for the first time in about 6 years I don't have to work Friday nights!! Does anyone know when the high school preview will be out? I think the Daily Record does one every year. Take care everyone, heres to a great season for all the WCAL teams!!!!!
Again I'm blown away by the difference in opinion about Smithville on here. I was again told by 2 parents that Smithville is awful. I was told that the QB that scotmich was talking about didn't complete a pass against Crestview. I also have been told that Crestview is going to be terrible this year.....pathetic is the word I heard. I'm going to have to go take a look for myself. Who do they open with?

I heard the same rumor as well. Is there any truth to it? Also Rittman is down a few kids but have lots of speed but not much size. Don't expect too much from them. Maybe 2 wins but thats from a weak schedule first few games. Mr Dennis destroyed what lil program they had as well as the middle school coach who is no longer coaching. Don't expect the new coach to stick around too long but wish him nothing but the best.

Well we have heard from most, anything from Hillsdale or Dalton?

thats funny! wondering what they are looking at.... i was there i am a parent of two varsity players. and the qb that i talked about threw one td to my son who caught two td on the day..... the o line and d line over powered them all day long..... im guessing the parents u talked with does not have a clue at to what the game of football is...... again im not say smithville will be looking to win the wcal this year but, from what they did last year..... there much much better......

From what I heard, Dalton had their way with Fairless in their scrimmage last week. This week at Triway could be much tougher.
  • Wcal observer
Not sure if Dalton was that strong, but I did hear Fairless self imploded with penalties, and mistakes. Was told Fairless virtually gave up a Dalton scoring drive with penalties.

I've seen Smithville, as well as Waynedale. I'll just say that Smithville is improved, but they look like a bottom 2 or 3 team in the WCAL to me. Beyond Rittman, I really struggle to think who they're better than. The QB is just not a very good passer. They need to ground and pound, but they lack size for that. Stranger things have happened, but I don't believe they're better than Chippewa, Waynedale, Norwayne, Hillsdale, Northwestern and probably Dalton. I think that just leaves Rittman.

The difference in opinion is very interesting, who do you guys scrimmage this week? Maybe some questions an be answered. Hope that post about the Norwayne boys is not true, I seen that Miller boy today an it sure looks like he has put the time in in the weight room, kid is going to be a load to bring down. Don't count the Cats out of this league race, smash mouth football still works!

After the run the Cats have made the past few seasons, it would be difficult to think ANYONE would count them out. You are right, the Miller boy definitely has lived in the weight room and looks like a bowling ball. Would be hard to believe he wouldn't be featured in the offense now that Dreher, Beery, and Harris are gone.

Got word that Chippewa looked very good last night against Mogadore. They played to a 21-21 tie, and the Chipps were able to run and pass effectively against the Wildcat defense. Mogadore scored two touchdowns on long pass plays in which Chippewa had some confusion regarding coverage. The report I received was Chippewa was extremely physical, and looked like the weight room really paid dividends. Mogadore is expected to be very good this year, so things look bright in Doylestown.
