2013 Orrville Red Riders football

That was the perfect storm for Wooster's offense. They ran Tavy with extra blockers (not out of the spread) and then mixed in Daugherty's passing for a change of pace. You could tell he was much more comfortable throwing off of play action than 50+ times per game, which is what he was doing when Tavy was third string. If they'd started the season this way they'd probably be 7-3. That's called a coaching blunder in my book.

Orrville needs to follow suit. A team doesn't just have to be a spread offense all the time. If you're Ashland, then fine. But it's darn hard to run out of that formation. It just is. The offense started piecing together some first downs when DaVault began running Summers out of the I late in the game. Mix it up and keep defenses honest.

Or the lack of coaches calling plays!

I agree. I or split backfield. This way if the line cant hold there block you still have one more body to help pick the defender up. We are NOT a spread team.

I'll let Jerry's Bar know. Our local economy is doomed.
Whoooo! Again somebody had to support your local economy. Maybe with me going to no games next year I could keep tabs on the team via your website, oh wait that would mean you would actually have to post something on it. No more updates before games?? Is that because you in finally realized nobody cared or nobody reads??? I can take your jabs Homer Simpson no problem.

Wooster opens the 2014 season at Medina Highland, hosting Wadsworth, and then traveling to Green, who replaces Chagrin Falls. I believe that after next season Medina Highland comes off the schedule.

Shame on both coaches for not putting their kids in the best position to win football games. Orrville lacks the personnel to effectively run a spread offense. Worse, Wooster had Dyson on its roster and played him jv for half the season. The kid who went for 550 yards and 10 touchdowns the last two games of the year was playing third string until the wheels totally came off and they gave him a shot when they were 1-5. They don't need to thump their chests quite so hard. Their talent evaluation is apparently awful.

The next time Orrville makes the playoff this town will have to host a parade, because it will be YEARS AND YEARS before we get there again playing in this league with the current talent/ability/skill that we have coming through.

I left at halftime SMFH...I cant stand to see where this program is at currently. It sucks being an Orrville fan right now when we EXPECT so much from these kids in terms of wins and playoffs. It puts a LOT of added pressure on the kids and the coaches to live up to those expectations that were built on success of years past. This community wants to see a winner and I was as upset as anyone when I left that game. However, it confirmed what many have been talking about and that is to give our kids and equall opportunity to COMPETE against schools of equall size.

The mystique of Orrville football playing bigger schools and scheduling UP so that we are prepared come playoff time is DEAD! The years of playing schools 3 divisions larger than us needs te end. Orrville football is known for winning games and making the playoffs! For that to continue I really think the ONLY solution is to get out of the OCC and into a league with schools our size where our athletes have an opportunity to compete!
  • RedRider1
You mean play schools the same size as us?? Like Coldwater does..Like Norwayne does..Like Triway does...Like Mogadore does?

    Novel concept.

Just to remind everyone..we beat the PAC champs back in week 2...and this week they'll host a playoff game..while our season is done. Anyone that doesn't think we'd have competed for a title in that league is delusional.

If we played in the PAC, we're, AT WORST, a 7-3 team and getting ready for the playoffs this week.

thank the past school admin for the occ league choice and thank some of the present admin also for the butt kicking we are taking. hope this school admin will see the light and get us out asap. remember this town votes on school levies, and wins and playoffs help bring $ to the school...

Old Rider i am glad you came through with a post man. I have to admit Saturday night while watching the FSU/Miami game I went out to my car more than once to check the score of the game. After hearing how bad it was I couldn't help but to feel bad for your bro! I knew more than anyone involved in that organization that score and outcome wasn't OK with him. People can have their opinions of me but I respect your brother more than anyoe down there and I knew that was hard on him. Back when he played and you played losing to Wooster wasn't an option and especially by that score. I hope he sticks with it as he is a HUGE asset to that program.

Unfortunately, I can attest to the fact that this gets easier.

Are they notably bigger? I know they were scheduling some D4 schools when they were D6. Wasn't sure if there were any bigger than that.

A bunch of talk that makes no sense. Why talk about the PAC or the WCAL? If you begged you would not get in. Move on! Out schedule sucks when we are not that good. Who thought we were going to the playoffs this year? Probably nobody, I know I did not. In fact I would not have thought 4 wins was possible. It is going to be tough for a while because not a lot coming. So where did all the athletes go...they were born girls. Our girls programs are very good and going to be staying strong for some time. Cycles guys...we are just not used to not having the boys to play up.

I love how people think you didn't make the playoffs because you play big schools? So I will tell you right now if you played in the WCAL you wouldn't have made the playoffs either so then what? You are having a down few years, everyone has them, maybe not often but at public schools your will go through times when the talent just isn't there. You should love playing big schools, go 6-4 make the playoffs and already have played teams that are bigger and better. The teams that should be looking to get out of the OCC are teams like Ashland who get killed by the points for having to play a D5 team a D4 team and three D3 teams. The conference sucks for the big school in football. In everything else I think the conference is very good, but Football kills the big school, not the small ones.

Great point. Not sure I agree with the WCAL comment. I think it would have been possible but not a give me.

JMO but I think the riders would have lost to chipp, Norwayne, and Northwestern. All 3 teams had more athletes than orrville had.

sorry but I am a pusher for orrville to get somehow into the wcal........ I know already about the same chance as catching Bigfoot
  • Flash
It would have depended on what point in the season we played the Bobcats. When there was injuries etc. maybe then. Probably not in the beginning of the season.

Not saying we would for sure have won the conference. But we would have been in the hunt with all those teams. So if we are 7-3 in the WCAL the kids can "feel good but not be in the playoffs" Soft society that we live in now.
  • unc4life
I can tell you right now, as an Ashland fan that had a team that just went 7-3 didn't win the conference and didn't make the playoffs, you might as well be 4-6. They had a great year and won some good games, but at the end of the day you didn't make the playoffs and that's really all that matters.

Yea the mental aspect is huge in high school sports with kids. It killed Norwayne for years

Its called a work ethic something I wouldn't expect you to know anything about. Up at 330am everyday putting in a few hours for my own business before going to my real job. All so I don't become a worthless turd like you!!

From a Norwayne fan on the Wayne County thread....seems like the worm is turning on the greatest coach who has ever lived.

    LOL.
bobcat14;1529989 wrote:Well just got back into town and got caught back up on things. Congrats Northwestern on your WCAL Crown and good luck in they playoffs.

Now on to Norwayne, I put complete blame on the Head Coach!!!! How in the name of all things that are football Holy you not have a second string QB varsity ready?????? To me that is crazy, out of all the players you have on that team you cant find one person that you could get ready. I understand that it would be hard to find a replacement for Dhrer(SP) but you have to have somebody that could step in. The Miller boy did an outsanding job, but he is a running back and not a QB. I think this puts a end to the conversation, "our Norwayne Coaches good Coaches?". I think they just walked into a situation 4 years ago that even a blind squirrel could have one a State Championship with. The talent was there. from what I understand people said when those two classes where in pee wee that they would do great things in High School.
Sorry for the rant but I feel bad for the players. Take nothing away from Northwestern, they are a good football team and deserved the win, but to not have somebody that would be able to step in and at least run the Offense is unreal!!!!! Maybe its time for a change at Norwayne? 7-3 is not a bad record at all and most teams would take it, but that is very poor coaching on the Head Coach.
