2013 Orrville Red Riders football

sanitizerUnder ther goal post, the right turn down the back of the end zone line, the left turn down the sidelines, then the left at the 50..... Huddle up and then the "Three times, three times, three times. One two three HIT! One two three HIT! One two three HIT! Rip 30 split on the number, rip three O split on the number, READY... BREAK"! Lining up "quietly" before one of the captains said "GET IN HERE" and the madness that followed.....
Yeah, I remember.... "Kill em all..... God will sort em out"! LOL! Go Riders! -

this is a long shot was it John KropfRedRider1;1491616 wrote:Who even did the PA before Kent? I've been going to games since the mid 80's & he's the only one I ever remember. -
Old RiderI would like to see the old fire truck siren back. For any youngsters, this was in the press box and had to be cranked by hand. It was rang at the end of each quarter and end of game of course. It was fixed right to the table and faced out the window. Loved that and still love the cannon. I remember Duke taking over at half for the band, but I think thats all he did.
Not sure on Kroph? It seems to me that Rich King did the games... -
RedRider1You could re-create the siren on CD and just play it over the loudspeaker. Some over-reacting parent would probably think we're sounding some sort of emergency siren and complain though.
In other news: Was reading the Massillon paper at lunch time and they had their season preview for the Tigers and it listed their playoff history........do you know we have more playoff appearances (22 to their 20) and playoff wins (29 to their 27) than the tradition-rich Tigers?
We also have more state titles won on the field (1 to their 0).
They have 10 regional titles and we have 9...and we both have finished runner-up 3 times. -

sanitizerAnyone remember running the "hill" in the park by the pool for every point we lost by and penalty we had???
BUMP!!!!!!The cleats hitting the concrete outside the locker room-the playing of Lunatic Fringe on the speakers-the sound of Plumley yelling "Lets go Riders"-the sound of Kent Smith on the PA-the smell of the fresh fall air-the people lined up to buy a 50/50 ticket-the buzz that is Orrville football! The band playing "The Horse". A lot has changed in Orrville but the foundation and the tradition NEVER will! Go Riders!!! RTR!!!!! -

HATED IT! Running down the hill was worst than going up simply because it was just steep enough to get your momentum going faster than your legs could keep up...and....WHAM. Reminded me of the cemetery hill at the Jr. High and Coach Mello making us run it for half a practice!sanitizer;1492023 wrote:Anyone remember running the "hill" in the park by the pool for every point we lost by and penalty we had???
Around the school...MOVE! Then waiting behind the corner of the school for the guilty party and just shedding him right there! -

I have a two inch scar on my left hand from a broken bottle cutting my hand during a fall on that very cemetery hill by the Jr. High! LOL! And I remember a few guys catching a little "extra" contact for being responsible for a run "around the complex"!!!HATED IT! It got changed after you left to bellies but it was for Turnover margin and penalties...we really did not lose...sorry could not resist that!sanitizer;1492023 wrote:Anyone remember running the "hill" in the park by the pool for every point we lost by and penalty we had???
BUMP!!!!!! -
rrfanI do remember the hill at the Old Jr. High and getting water poured in your mouth out of a gasoline jug. I remember learning to swallow the water without ever shutting your mouth so you could get as much as possible and the jug was walked down the line by the coach.

...and not getting enough water so you did your best to catch the water spilling/splashing from the guys mouth next to ya! It sure made me appreciate the water break!rrfan;1492397 wrote:I do remember the hill at the Old Jr. High and getting water poured in your mouth out of a gasoline jug. As for John Marshall...I have heard that they do have an athletic QB and run some read-option stuff. If we play fundamental, disciplined football we should be fine....
GO RED RIDERS! -

Those two guys spent a lot of time doing that. They were not real good at it but the effort was fantastic!Luckyone959;1492517 wrote:John K. was color commentator along with Maple St principal on the video tapes. -

sanitizerLots of time to sleep when we die!!!
Amazing job redrider1!!!! All time conference history page is pretty telling. Also loved the all time opponents records! Since I can't pat you on the back pat yourself! Really cool, printed it and let my boss look it over.... He is from REVERE!!! He brags about beating us in 90 but I always ask him how many times they have made the playoffs since then????
Great information!!! -
BRFThis minion would like to praise RR1 for a job well done!

Trying hard not to be self aggrandizing. I debate whether or not to even put my name on it..but then I reminded myself that authors put their names on books, so why not? -

Thanks man.
That conference info is interesting. I think from Chippewa Conference through All Ohio League we won 16 of 26 possible league titles.
Only 2 since 1999, but compare the size of schools in the Chippewa/AOC/AOL to the size of schools in the OHC & OCC. Much different.
I like the 22 playoff appearances & 29 playoff wins too. -

I find the number of times we made the playoffs since leaving those "smaller" conferences very interesting...... I also find 16 of 26 league titles pretty telling as well. The coaching history page was pretty cool as well. Taking a look at Devault's winning percentage and all time wins in the limited number of seasons as head coach (comparative of course), VERY telling as well! Again GREAT job. As a loyal Orrville fan that is kind of out of the loop this was awesome -

7 playoff appearances in 13 years as member of the AOC/AOL (76-88).sanitizer;1493096 wrote:I find the number of times we made the playoffs since leaving those "smaller" conferences very interesting...... 7 playoff appearances in 10 years as an independent (89-98).
8 playoff appearances in 14 years as members of the OHC & OCC.
Pretty even indeed. Not as many league titles, but just as many playoff appearances. -
RedRider1And sanitizer, folks like you are why I continue to do what I do...alums who have landed in a different part of the state, country or world, but still want to keep up on the Riders.
One of the biggest privileges I've ever had was when I was sending out updates at the state basketball tournament in 2010 & a guy said I was keeping him updated as he was in Iraq serving our country. He's fighting for our freedom but wanted to know how his alma mater was doing. Talk about humbling....
