whats goin on in "the ville"?

ThePatriotI do stay away from hs football, like I said. I follow it here and on tv and still go to a few games but it doesn't need to be as serious as it has become.
Perfect example: two butt hurt posters show up to bad mouth you if you state an opinion that isn't theirs. -

If the world were black and white, you'd have a point. In the real world, things are a matter of degree. On one hand, I follow the results of my alma mater and that of my wife and son. My wife and I are probably going to catch a game at the local high school. On the other hand, you have middle-aged men, adults, to whom 16-18 year-old boys running up and down a field is literally the most important thing in the world. Literally the most important thing in the world. Places with larger followings will naturally have not only a greater number of the former, but a greater number of the latter as well. The latter are sick human beings, absolutely sick, and are those with paranoid delusions that people in numbers are attacking a situation in town X because they're envious of the football program. These people need professional help as their maturity was stunted along the way. Unfortunately, these people tend to be very out front with their support of the program, and people with the proper perspective sometimes get painted with the same broad brush.Sykotyk;1259102 wrote:Can I make one comment: I find it funny that people are railing on Steubenville for creating a 'culture of celebrity' with high school football WHILE talking on a message boards whose primary focus are talking all about high school football. -
Spread All DayA young girl was still raped here.. ANYONE involved in that situation should be off the team. Have some class BR.

CthelitesWOW MOW!
Our schools policy is if you are at a party with alcohol and get caught being there regardless if you even drink, then you are suspended for 20% of the season. Athletics is a PRIVILEDGE!
What do we know right now that are facts?
A party that athletes attended
Alcohol
Drugs(roofies)
Rape
Kidnapping
It really is a shame what Reno has let this program evolve into.
I had such high regard and respect for him before all this went down.
He let the 2 that are in jail now practice and play in scrimmages before being arrested.
He knew what happen and a coach even instructed the kids to delete anything they had on the incident.
He even was trying to block the Sheriff from coming to the athletic facilities to confiscate the electronic devices.
But wait, we need to find out if the others involved(not the 2 in jail) are actually getting charged to suspend them from the team?????? WOW!
Just another case of a Joe Pa that stayed too long and got too much power.
SAD!!!!!!!! -

What's really sad is the fact that if you know all of the above, you should report what you know to the prosecutor in this case. They are looking for people like you to come forward.Cthelites;1259779 wrote:WOW MOW!

There are new prosecutors in the case so I would expect it will take some time for them to get all their ducks in a row so they dont make mistakes as far as the LAW goes.
I guess unless you are charged and arrested for a felony at roll red roll, things just keep rolling along. -
GRAYWOLF
Wow Mo this explains some of Big Reds success over the years. In the 40 plus years I have watched high school football I have seen countless numbers of good players sitting out games for just attending drinking parties, it never really matters what time of the year. I can say also it has cost them wins for sure. But your saying not in Stuberland?????ManO'War;1258769 wrote:This happened during the summer, why would the school system be involved?? Once again..not a school function, not on school grounds, and not even in the school district.
I haven't really heard anyone state with a fact that any of the accused were drinking, just that they were at a party. Besides, even if they were drinking, that is not an excuse for the alleged crime. -

We still live in a country where you are innocent until proven guilty; why would you expect people to lose their jobs on hearsay.
If there is any substance to these rumors, there will be action taken. It's going to get interesting when this case comes to trial. I personally have heard at least 5 or 6 different senarios about what happend that evening.
I think we have a more serious problem in this country regarding our youth and what they are exposed to with all the sexual material avaiable to them. Look around you and listen to the things being said and done by some of our youth. It's like these 2 boys thought there would be no price to pay for what they supposedly did.

ManO'WarYou guys are pretty naive if you think that high school kids drinking hasn't been going on for a very long time.
When I was in school in the 80's I saw players from every surrounding school out drinking and getting high.
I'm sure it happens even in Pleasantville...aka Dover. -

Last time I checked there were NO incidents of girls being raped by football players. -
queencitybuckeyeTo me, in regard to who is playing and who is not, there are three possibilities:
1. The coach knows which players were involved and is taking no action as not to taint any possible future legal action. Agree or disagree, I can understand this decsion.
2. The coach knows which players were involved and is taking no action as not to affect his football team. Were evidence of this to come to light, he should be fired immediately for cause.
3. The coach chooses to know as little as possible about the situation. This is as bad, if not worse, than #2 and should yield the same result.
I sincerely hope that the reason is #1. -

You left one out: The coach heard rumors from some of the players but had no hard evidence since he was not there; thus the coach should remain head coach. Let the law run it's course.queencitybuckeye;1260555 wrote:To me, in regard to who is playing and who is not, there are three possibilities:

Mortgagestar1Books have been written about the corruption in Jefferson County and its county seat Steubenville. Imagine a mind set of only high school football because there is absolutely nothing else to feel good about. The dying town has less than 18,000 people yet has big city problems from drug gangs to inept government officials embroiled in a one political party ole boy system.
Many Big Red athletes graduate to prisons & the local cemeteries at a very early age. Scandal at the high school is common and the community cover up and move on as a science & an art. Its citizens pride themselves as mean spirited and have an ongoing romance with the Underworld of crime.
Steubenville will NOT allow yet another rape in the same calendar year sidetrack their goal of a state championship. Its their culture and mind set. -

Most every district has policies that result in automatic suspensions when people get caught at a busted party. We had players getting 1-2 games for that type of stuff back in the late 90s
