Can not argue with that statement! I also agree 100%!!BigDean1;1212385 wrote:oldschool, I do know why we blitz so often. It's the lack of our linebackers being able to read and react which puts our defense at risk. My question for you is can the problem be corrected in time for this season? I didn't know there was one. I'd like to know when the next one is. I don't place too much emphasis on these. But I'd like to see who the potential receiving targets are going to be.omemorialhigh;1212794 wrote:how did passing scrimmage go -

reddevil90My Valley Sports Has a on article for HS Football Watch List: Offensive Linemen.. And Campbell's Big man Shaquon McWilson was mentioned.. The Red Devils' quarterback Brandon Reyes will have much to look forward to during his senior season including having a monster like McWilson to block for him. The 6'4, 330-pound lineman registered 18 pancake blocks and graded out at 83% in 2011. http://www.myvalleysports.com/mostpopular/story/HS-Football-Watch-List-Offensive-Line/0_W-A7Xl9UOXZP0JKak0iQ.cspx

That's nice to read about. And it looks like the remainder of the Campbell players are flying under the radar of My Valley Sports, as not a single one of them is mentioned among the other positions reviewed. And that's exactly where I want them to be.reddevil90;1215702 wrote:My Valley Sports Has a on article for HS Football Watch List: Offensive Linemen.. I was hoping that Struthers would have some of their impact players go under the radar... it's a sure fire way to give them some added motivation.BigDean1;1215734 wrote:That's nice to read about. I'm sure Reyes will get a shout out when they release the QB list. I did think maybe Wigfall would get mentioned on the Receivers list.
Other than Wigfall, McWilson, and Reyes, who had primary/featured roles on the 2011 team... and are returning for 2012? -

Starting linemen returning: McWilson, Sean Burnett, David Horvath, Dre Kelly.
Starting linebackers returning: Charles Smith, Adrian Brown
Starting defensive backs returning: Braylon Wigfall
Offense:
Starting linemen returning: McWilson, Sean Burnett, David Horvath, Dre Kelly
Starting backfield returning: Brandon Reyes, Charles Smith, Adrian Brown
Starting wide receivers returning: Braylon Wigfall, Corey Hamilton
Expected to contribute: Nick Lyras (quarterback/running back/defensive back), Ryan Kelly (lineman), Alex Cannon (lineman), Alex Kostantsas (lineman), Zach Rusnak (lineman), George Trikilis (lineman), Brandon Jackson (running back/defensive back), DeSean Johnson (running back/defensive back), Shammar Robbins (running back/linebacker), Stephen O'Dea (lineman/linebacker), Ja'lel Shorter (wide receiver/defensive back), Edthanial Tarver (wide receiver/defensive back), Stephen Elash (quarterback/defensive back), Motrel Hughes (quarterback/wide receiver/defensive back), Myckle Hughes (running back/defensive back).
This is just my take on things. There could be some players I have left out. And there could be a couple of players who will not be on the team. Coach Sikora has some good athletes and could change up positions for some of these kids. Campbell will have good size and speed. I have heard many good things about running back Brandon Jackson and linebacker Adrian Brown. I have heard that the attitude of the kids has been great. -

All I was asking was, how many All Conference/All District/All State players do they have coming back. That's all... -
BigDean1
Where in your post did you ask that specific question? I know that among the returning players McWilson was second team All-Ohio. I can't recall how many players made the AAC all conference team. There were a few.BTrev;1215965 wrote:I gotcha. All that has been mentioned multiple times already though.

Because you ask the same question once a month.BTrev;1215965 wrote:I gotcha. All that has been mentioned multiple times already though.

BTrevI have asked similar questions, but not the exact same questions repeatedly.
I've asked who they'll have with "experience"... who the "returning starters" are... and who will be back that had "primary/featured roles" last year.
Similar... not the same.
Experienced doesn't necessarily mean they had to be a starter, and starter doesn't necessarily mean they have to have played a starring role.
Example... Shaq McWilson was a primary featured player on the lines. Guys like Shawn Burnett and Dre Kelly were secondary role players with starting experience.
You guys know this stuff already. You know the differences between guys with a little PT, starters, and All Stars.
I thought it was easy to see what I meant. I didn't realize I need to spell out every single little thing in detail, and explain how each question is different from the last, every time I want to ask something.
When I ask for featured players, and I get the same players to watch list of about 20 or so kids that has already been posted two or three times by the same person... there's miscommunication somewhere. There's not a single team in Ohio, in any Division, with 20+ featured stars on it.
And that's not me talking down to anyone. That's me defending myself, when you accuse me of asking the same question every month. I could've been more specific, absolutely... but I also could've been a Hell of a lot more vague. I really haven't been asking the same things over and over again though. You act like every few weeks I post the exact same question word for word.
Sorry for the confusion...
Basically here's what I was getting at. You said you were glad some of your boys were flying under the radar (I'm paraphrasing). Other than the three names that I mentioned above (and Adrian Brown), based on their weekly performances/statistics from last year, who isn't getting their due? Usually when someone says that their kids are flying under the radar, it's because they think that the guys being overlooked deserve to be getting more attention. Who from Campbell deserves to register on the proverbial radar, besides Reyes and McWilson?
I understand that everyone would rather have them working together like they have something to prove, than have them getting caught up in all the preseason hype. But honestly, do you guys think anyone is legitimately getting snubbed?
Now you guys can go ahead and make fun of me for rambling again. -
BigDean1
I for one like to see Campbell players not being mentioned. That should give them motivation. I don't look at it as them being snubbed. From my point of view, the last thing kids need is to read how good they are BEFORE the season begins. I prefer to see them proving how good they are on the field during games instead of reading about themselves and possibily having it all go to their heads. Keep your eye on Adrian Brown, Charles Smith, Nick Lyras, Brandon Jackson, Corey Hamilton, Dre Kelly, and Sean Burnett. All of them will make an impact. There is a tough as nails sophomore named Stephen O'Dea who could see some playing time at linebacker and on the offensive line. Watch him on special teams too. Adrian Brown could be one of the better players in the area. He is a hard-nosed kid whose motor is always running on high. Charles Smith is a third year starter who most certainly will make an impact at fullback and at linebacker. Nick Lyras transferred to Campbell from Cardinal Mooney prior to last season and played sparingly. He's a tough, strong kid who will be a starter this year. Brandon Jackson transferred back to Campbell from Liberty. He is a quick and elusive back, similar to Ja'les Hughes. Corey Hamilton saw some playing time at wide receiver last season and will be a starter this season. Dre Kelly was a starter all of last season and played really well on the offensive line last season as a sophomore. He will only get better. Sean Burnett is a three year starter and a very good lineman. He'll play on both sides of the ball. What Campbell does have this season that they lacked last season is a good group of seniors who are leading.BTrev;1216139 wrote:I have asked similar questions, but not the exact same questions repeatedly.

That's because I enjoy talking high school football. I am counting the days until kickoff !!! Campbell-Struthers is always an intense game. This season it will be a momentum builder for the winner come the following week. And it will be interesting to see how the losing team comes back the following week. It should be a great game because there will be good talent on both sides.BTrev;1216756 wrote:Thanks Big D! You're truly a class act. BigDean, I talked to Coach Guerriero from Springfield Friday night at the Penn-Ohio Game, he said that the Springfield-Campbell scrimmage will be at Springfield on Saturday the 18th at 10:00am. Just an FYI for you and Red Devil fans.:thumbup:BigDean1;1187036 wrote:I believe the second scrimmage is on Saturday August 18th. The first one is during the week of August 5th. No scrimmages can be held before Tuesday August 7th or later during that week. But I am not sure which date the Springfield scrimmage is. I am sure as the season approaches dates will be posted here. -
reddevil90Quote From BigDean,,,,What Campbell does have this season that they lacked last season is a good group of seniors who are leading. To me this team is as good if not better then last years talent. Because there heads are in the right place. And also cause they care as a group about there fellow team mate. To me that makes them winners no matter what. I have heard from you dean they rallied behind Reyes after his loss. That is how it should be. this group will protect each other and that will show at the end of the season.
Go Campbell Time to make it happen in 2012! -

Thanks for the info. I was told that the Campbell-Springfield scrimmage was the first one and the Campbell - Niles McKinley scrimmage was on the 18th in the evening. omemorialhighdoes anyone know who has the inside track on the rb position...everyones been saying brandon jackson but im hearing rumblings his younger brother aaron is a better athlete. whats the situation with motrell?
-
soupcitysoldieryou are correct...the younger brother is scary talented for a sophomore. ive only seen him play other sports though, not football. hes good trust me. with 3 years to go skys the limit.

One of the coaches told me a few weeks ago that there are at least three candidates to fill the tailback position. I am sure one of them will be the starter. But it's good to have that kind of depth at such a key position. I am not sure about the Hughes brothers, Motrell and Mykle.soupcitysoldier;1217913 wrote:you are correct...the younger brother is scary talented for a sophomore. ive only seen him play other sports though, not football. hes good trust me. with 3 years to go skys the limit. -

I hear that Montrell contributed to last year coaches pains. i would not put him in the mix until game 1. He played a in a few games last year if I am correct. And from what i hear he has not as talent as Ja'les was. I don't know didn't see any of the games he played in But his youngest brother Mykle is very good Qb like Lester... But we do have a core of backs that can screw with coaches defensive plans and give them headaches. This could be a core of back that you only see once in a lifetime. I would live to see something like Patton and Drayton type combo.BigDean1;1217923 wrote:One of the coaches told me a few weeks ago that there are at least three candidates to fill the tailback position.
