Campbell Memorial Red Devils Preseason thread

omemorialhighreality is this. lose to struthers and see the wheels come off. this will be a big moment for this staff...they need to show they can make adjustments. no excuses. you lose to struthers chalk up the season

reddevil90I don't care how much training they do.. Its nice to see they are. But i agree with Omemorial here. First last year they had toms of talent. Over talented. And look what happen.. Then take into count there defense. Yes it was better then years gone by. But they Blitzed on every single play.. They didn't read. they got Burnt big a lot of times. Running d was damn good for the most part. It had a few moments. But they got burnt through the air and on Big plays. The offence is going through a big change over here from Ja'les and some lineman. To me it should still be there strong point. Reyes at Qb give me less to worry about who will start. But then receivers. Who is going to step up? Lost some nice receivers the last 2 years. but then again the big situation i see in not the D line. Its the pass rush and corners. If they can somehow read the offence then we would have been in the playoffs last year. And Coaching? I'm not putting it down. But man if you didn't question lot of what happen last year your not watching what i seen and listen to on the radio. The coaching staff has to many years under there belt to allow what happen to happen again. if it does then we will never be the campbell team that once beat the living dog snot out of the area teams.

Struthers Fan
I agree completely. Both Struthers and Campbell have populations that have plunged. It's like us trying to fill the Fieldhouse with 3,000 for any games except Poland; it just doesn't happen.BigDean1;1080283 wrote:It's a big stadium and will be very tough to fill up no matter what the circumstances are. Just my opinion. I was among those in attendance in 1971 for a Campbell-Ursuline game. 10,000 people were there. It was very, very loud. That was when the actual seating capacity was just 6,000. That was the biggest crowd I ever saw in the stadium. Now the capacity is over 7,000. And the population of the city is smaller. Much smaller. Many things have changed.
The renovated stadium at Struthers is more in line with the current population of the town and what kind of crowds we anticipate. Memorial on the other hand has a HUGE stadium that would be very lucky to get even half filled, even against Struthers. It would, however, be a great site for football playoffs if and when they get turf. Big enough for Division II and smaller. If you get the turf, you guys should be hosting a few playoff games. JMO. -
omemorialhighthe new turf will not be put in this year...they are hoping to have the money raised to complete it in march of next year. also weightlifting numbers are great for a change...numbers in the 20s. the gridiron has been sending 10 football players to ironman warehouse to train with mark raseta...seems as if things are headed in the right direction. alot of talk about removing the disease from last years team...hopefully its not just talk. also 4 sophmores will see significant playing time if not start.

reddevil90I think last years team was a good thing to happen to the new coaches... i mean we had the players that could have done massive damage in the playoffs... But it turned out to be a circus. they showed what they could have done in the playoffs with Girard. Anyways this should be a mass learning situation. If the coaches Allow this to happen again then the coaching staff is not what is best for us. Would Bayuk stood for this.. I would have to say a Big Fat NOPE!!!!! Rozum? Hell NO!!!! So if they allow the Cancer to continue then there is bigger issue then the team!!! I hope Omemorial is right about cutting out the cancer. I mean allow them to come out and play but first time i see you laying down during drill ractice or anything set a example and cut them now. And for god sakes dont allow them back when they come running with the tails between there legs.. I was very shocked to see Number 5 on the field against struthers.. That scares me that the coaches cant make the hard decisions...

omemorialhigh, you may have been misinformed regarding the field turf project. I talked to the person who is spearheading the project this past Saturday. There is a chance the turf could be installed for this coming season. It depends on a plan the board of education is reviewing.omemorialhigh;1106032 wrote:the new turf will not be put in this year...they are hoping to have the money raised to complete it in march of next year. also weightlifting numbers are great for a change...numbers in the 20s. the gridiron has been sending 10 football players to ironman warehouse to train with mark raseta...seems as if things are headed in the right direction. alot of talk about removing the disease from last years team...hopefully its not just talk. also 4 sophmores will see significant playing time if not start. -

Seen the video and was very pleased. They look like they are dedicated to making there team better. And they sure look like the want to take the next step.
We went backwards last year starting game 3. But a lesson i hope was learned by players and coaches that it just takes one player to derail a team. Last years team had the tools talent to go deep. Hell if they would have played like they did with girard they could not have been stopped. The Struthers game was the most pathetic i seen from a devils team in many many years.
I am very excited to see this team on the field this year! And with a little luck seeing them on turf kicking ass at home. Its time to do this now. We have the system in for 5 years! And the time has come to start making a splash in the playoffs on a regular basis. Im not sure what talent and skill we have all the way. But i know we have some beast on both sides of the line. And Our Qb got a year under his belt. And the ones that say there not impressed don't know what there talking about. Reyes is one of the best QB's in the area. And i cant express that enough. -
scoreboardLast years team was infected by a few rotten apples. This year those apples are gone and the entire atmosphere is noticeably different. The seniors are leading by example and working extremely hard. You will see those results in a big way.

BigDean1Keep the prayers coming for the mother of Campbell QB Brandon Reyes. It's been a very difficult time for the entire family. Football is a distant second to the issue they are dealing with.

Yes this is a very hard time for our Qb. I have went down this road before. I sympathies with him and his family. Prayers been said and i hope things turn for the better. He is a great kid. And i really enjoyed watching him last year!BigDean1;1120304 wrote:Keep the prayers coming for the mother of Campbell QB Brandon Reyes. It's been a very difficult time for the entire family. reddevil90Wow this thread has been silent. And its hard to talk football when one of own is going through a hard time like this. All i can say is ill keep praying... To all the Campbell huddles friends you are the most respectful people out there.

More aggressive wildcat team this year. I just don't think it will be a quick turnaround. I see the cats rebuilding like the devils. You will see it starting in this years cats team. But I do think it will take a year maybe two
Before a playoff birth. But you have a lot of talent returning. So that will help them win more games this year. -

Numbers for lifting have been good. They should see an even larger turnout, after baseball and track are over.reddevil90;1136691 wrote:Devils will be ready. Bet you dollar. Lol how is struthers and the new coach looking? I'm looking for a much

The offensive line should be better, with Kuntz taking over as HC. He was the OL coach at Poland, and I've heard good things.
I haven't met him yet, but I will soon enough. I know the Gridiron Club likes him.
It probably will take some time, and they will go through growing pains. There's a lot of hope and optimism though, that Coach Kuntz will get things straightened out and back on the right track.
From week 10 last year... of the 11 starters on offense, 7 will be back. Of the 11 starters on defense, 7 will be back. -

Good amount of talent returning.. My thoughts was not based on how many are returning that started last year.. Its based on learning a new system. 3 systems in 3 years is a lot to ask of the seniors. But if the coaches get them to believe early and they start to come out early then you could make a run. But man learning a whole new system 3 years in a row is ridiculousness. Struthers always had the players. But the system was just like it was across the bridge for many years. You have the talent but you should see it pay off as the season goes on. I think Campbell is lucky to play the first game. I hate to play them by last game this time around. New system is the cats enemy this season. Not players. They have a great core of returning players,... I could be wrong. I predicted Campbell to win state last year. I was so off it was not even funny. Campbell had all the players and talent to do it. I don't care what anyone says. But the wheels came off quick and it derailed into a I don't know what to even call it. Disciplined is the key word for the devils this year. Scratch that. Make that second to Leadership.BTrev;1138627 wrote:Numbers for lifting have been good. They should see an even larger turnout, after baseball and track are over.

Spread All DayThe system Struthers is running this season isn't all that different from either of Asher's or Saunders. Look for a lot of between the tackles running by the big boy #44. The QB #12 is solid for passing as well. As you all already know. Kimbrough should be a threat on the outside for big plays, and The Oline is only getting better. I look for the cats to give a lot of teams trouble this season. But they need to pick up where they left off against Campbell. Who in my opinion is losing too much talent to compete with the cats this season.

The talent Campbell lost last season did no favors for the team. I don't know how we will fair as a team. But one thing i know for damn sure there is a lot of talent in the halls of Campbell Memorial.Spread All Day;1139206 wrote:The system Struthers is running this season isn't all that different from either of Asher's or Saunders. omemorialhighline play should be fine if not better this year...plenty returning there. the main losses to me are the rb and safety...yes we lost those wide receivers but they really didnt do much imho. i expect reyes to take a step forward and i think the defense will be better. year no. 3 under sikora...no more excuses now. time to see what youve been implementing and developing at the lower levels. will our linebackers know how to read this year? lets be honest sikora loses to struthers game 1 wheels will come off again...its pretty much a must win for the program in the short term
-
BigDean1I'm not sure I agree with the wheels coming off IF Campbell loses to Struthers in week one. If we had the same few disruptive players returning for another year, that might be the case. But I believe most, if not all of the bad seeds are gone. If any are left, I doubt that Coach Sikora is going to put up with any disruptions like he did last year. Disruptive players will get no second chances. It's too bad the Struthers game is in week one. That game should always be late in the season, if not the last game of the season. But with the new league alignment, I suppose it was necessary. Regarding the new alignment, I like the fact that Lakeview and Jefferson Area have replaced Mineral Ridge and Ashtabula Edgewood on the schedule. Brookfield is also back for another year as is South Range. The Brookfield game will be played at Brookfield again this coming season. And at least at this point that game will be played on a Saturday afternoon. The explanation for playing at Brookfield again this coming season was that if Brookfield were to play at Campbell this coming season there would be only 4 home games the year after next.
