I believe the second scrimmage is on Saturday August 18th. The first one is during the week of August 5th. No scrimmages can be held before Tuesday August 7th or later during that week. But I am not sure which date the Springfield scrimmage is. I am sure as the season approaches dates will be posted here.

I talked to a very reliable source early this afternoon. My source is very excited about the upcoming season. That's all I am going to say.
When did the thread go off topic? Just wondering...

What else are the coaches supposed to say? "We're gonna suck this year. We'll be lucky to go .500. We're dreading this seson."

Get real, man. Look back at my posts... that's obviously not how I feel about Campbell, or how I think the coaches should feel. But what else are they supposed to say? Of course they're gonna say they're excited for the upcoming season. Coaches should be excited for every season... if they're not, they're either in the wrong proffession or they need to call it quits.

My take is it went off topic when I started reading posts about school colors, the old MVC, etc., etc. Since the topic of this thread is "Campbell Memorial Red Devils Preseason thread I prefer talking about the upcoming season. BTrev, I did not intend to make you feel insulted. Feel free to post whatever you desire. Like I said, I prefer to discuss the upcoming season. The Campbell coach told me some reasons why he is excited about the upcoming season. But what he told me isn't going to be posted here. And I have heard coaches state that an upcoming season could be uneventful. That was a trick former JFK coach Tony Napolet used for years.

btrev a lil moody???? lol you took that waaay to seriously. bigdean im excited also...whats not to be excited about! just wondering....i know we return a ton of starters but did lose 2 big seniors. what are the numbers on each side of the ball? any ideas how many sophomores will get pt this year? i know sikora likes to get his 10th graders game time action if possible
• BTrev
Nah... just stirrung the pot a little bit.

Being that red_devil90 started the thread, and he was contributing to the conversation, I thought it was all fair game... especially since it's been kinda quiet on both fronts.

Tony Napolet was a great coach...

You want to talk about this season? Let's wrap...

I believe I've asked this question at least once, maybe twice, before... everytime I get a list of players to watch. I wasn't just being rhetorical.

Other than Reyes, McWilson, Wigfall, Charles Smith, Burnett, and Horvath... and maybe Dre Kelly, who does Campbell have coming back with any starting experience? I know they lose obvious names like Rushtin, Letlow, Ja'les Hughes, Patton, Ray, Gabe Smith, Little, and Sudakov... which starters are coming back, besides the ones that I mentioned above?

Any GUESS as to what the starting lineups will look like for week one?

82 days...

im pretty sure both sides of the line will be intact except kendall miller...who will be replaced by jaleel shorter if i am correct. i could be wrong. shorter did get alot of pt last year at de, although he didnt start both sides of the line will be the same. pretty sure all the linebackers will be back also. qb and fb will be back. basically what they need to replace on O will be rb and a no. 1 receiver. from what everything i am hearing those positions will be filled nicely. on D they need to replace a safety and 2 dbs. the skill positions on the offensive side of the ball will probably fill in these spots on D. bottomline you have a great nucleus coming back with alot of playing time. rb WAS a concern for me because its hard to replace jales. but im hearing things will be just fine there.

Let me be more to the point...

Please fill in the blanks with names.

QB: Reyes
FB: Charles Smith
HB: I'm guessing Brandon Jackson, the transfer from Liberty. I think that's his name.
WRs: Wigfall and ?
TE: ?
LT: McWilson
LG: ?
C: ?
RG: ?
RT: ?

DEs: Horvath and Shorter
DTs: ?
ILBs: Charles Smith and ?
SAM: ?
WILL: ?
CBs: Wigfall and ?
S: ?

Don't just assume that I know the entire starting lineups for Campbell from last year.

I have said this before the line is damn near intact. you can say after this year will be a full blown rebuild. the line will graduate a bunch of them. unless we whoop teams like years gone by in the first half. and get the 10th and some 9th grade playing time. I know i feel real good about the upcoming season. Even better then last years. We all know why last year went down the sink week 3. Its a true testament to the coaching staff to pull out 7-3 with last years mess.

It's too early to say who Coach Sikora will plug into positions which opened up due to graduation. But here are some of my theories. Reyes will start at QB. Keep in mind that Reyes just lost his mother to cancer recently. So it's a question as to how that will affect him emotionally. He may also get some time in the defensive backfield. Nick Lyras and Motrell Hughes have played QB at the lower levels. Charles Smith, Dave Horvath, Adrian Brown, Brandon Jackson, DeSean Johnson, Edthanial Tarver, Shamar Robbins, and Myckle Hughes are all candidates for positions in the backfield. Braylon Wigfall, Corey Hamilton, Ja'lel Shorter, Tarver, M. Hughes, Johnson, and Nick Lyras are candidates at wide receiver. Campbell will seldom use a tight end in their offense. But if they do my best guess is David Horvath at that position. The line could be made up of Shaq McWilson and Sean Burnett at the tackles, Dre Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Steven O'Dea, Alex Cannon, Alex Kostantsas, Horvath. My guess is Shaq, Burnett, and Horvath will see time on both sides of the ball, as will Smith, O'Dea, and Brown at the LB positions, along with Shorter. Jackson, Tarver, Johnson, Lyras, Reyes, Hughes in the mix for defensive backfield positions. Size will not be a factor for Campbell. McWilson is around 330. Burnett is 270. Dre Kelly is 250. Ryan Kelly is 250. Kostantsas is 280 and should add some depth on the line. If Cannon is the leading candidate to fill the center spot and/or to add depth on the line, he is around 300. O'Dea, a candidate to be at center, and Horvath are around 200. Finding a place-kicker could be an issue. And I predict that Adrian Brown could be one of the better players in the area this coming season. Like I said, these are only guesses I am throwing out there. I am certain Coach Sikora has learned a lesson or two from last season. That being said, having any players who choose to miss practices and/or lack hustle and commitment will not be on the team for very long. From my point of view there are only a couple of possibilities. I will not mention any names.

Should have Shamar Robbins back as well who has alot of PT under his belt unless I missed something.

Cannon should get the nod at center. Zack Rusnak will be in the mix for a starting spot on the line as well.

On another note: Jales, Kendall and Letlow will be the Campbell representatives for the MVCA ALL-STAR GAME in Girard. The game will be held Thursday, June 21st at Arrowhead Stadium. Kickoff scheduled for 7:00pm. It's always a great night of football.

good to hear...im a little worried about our special teams. we havent had someone that could field a kick since skevo and we never took full advantage of alex. who will be the kicker now

I agree. Special teams were very inconsistent last season. Kickoff and punt coverage was marginal. Our kick returns the same. And Sudakov was wasted on point after kicks, field goals, and often rushed his punts because we lost our long snapper and really didn't find anyone consistent. There has to be a fine young Greek-American lad who can kick a football far and straight. There just has to be.

I hope so cause games are often won and lost by kick teams. Very excited for this years team.. I seen there is a ton of talented backs on the team this year. hope at least one out of the bunch emerges into a back that can truly replace Ja'les. I keep hearing from friends in the area Jackson more then likely would get the start.

whats new with the devils? any new transfers moving into the city? we get a couple East kids it seems like every year...

Other than the Jackson brothers who have transferred back to Campbell from Liberty, I don't know of any other transfers. I have been told that the attitude of the kids is great. There are some holes to fill at center and at one of the guard positions. There is talk that McWilson and Burnett will play on both sides of the ball this season. So that means we'll need to add some depth on the line. I've heard Brandon Jackson can be as good as or better than Ja'les. I've said this before. But Adrian Brown could be one of the best players in the area this coming season - in any division.

I hope the community gets behind this team more.... sickens me to see only a few hundred people at a home game.... But i know im having wishful thinking.

Good luck Red Devils. Defense needs to improve as always, we blitz way too much. Get burned for it. Need to get stronger up front.

I agree. But i think our line will be much improved with strength. Just keep them off Reyes enough for him to work his magic. and i believe our line will open up opportunity for our new back. But for sure we can not blitz every down. But i think the coach like the blitz more then a stay home type of coach. Good luck devils.

oldschool, I do know why we blitz so often. It's the lack of our linebackers being able to read and react which puts our defense at risk. My question for you is can the problem be corrected in time for this season? My perception is this is something that needs to be addressed at the lower levels. Am I right?
