Mooney and Ursuline attract good students for lots of reasons other than sports. Clearly they operate their football programs at a D-1 level. No way in hell should they be classified by the number of students attending.

Very simple, private schools don't want to deal with the problem students, and the do not have to. Public schools have to take everyone and it is a lot harder to expel a student. All the parents have to do is get an attorney. The law makes it almost impossible for public school to permanently expel a student.
If they shouldn't be classified by the number of students attending, how should they be classified?

I still maintain that schools like Mooney and Ursuline get almost all of their students from the parochial feeder schools. Someone one here said that in Open Enrollment schools, less than 5% of the students are actually from outside the district. I would say that at Mooney or Ursuline, less than 5% of the students are from non-parochial grade schools.

So how should Mooney and Ursuline be classified?

And since I'm a tax payer, I have a real problem with vouchers, since my money is going to a religious institution.

Ursuline and Mooney used to be a lot bigger schools...so they are capable of accepting a lot more students, so how come all of these other kids that are trapped in the Youngstown City Schools, you know the none athletes, are not being accepted??
Would just like to point out that vouchers actually SAVE the state money, as they only pay a small % of what they would if the student went to a public school.

LMAO...so just the privates with good programs should be penalized? I assume those that don't "operate on a D1 level" can keep the status quo? Keep digging.

And you have this on who's authority? I'd hate to think you're just generalizing again.

    1. No, they don't. As has been pointed out earlier in the thread, if a kid is expelled from private school, the public is under no obligation to admit them.

    B. Horsecrap. My local HS has had 6 kids given the boot already this year. I know of zero cases of any parents here in the past 4 years successfully challenging an expulsion.
I really don't want to waste anymore of my time on your silliness. I will take the word of the educators I know that have worked in both the public and private schools systems for over 40 years. Keeping on believing what you want. I have no kids in school anymore and no dog in the fight. I just call it as I see it.

Now this should be a separate thread. It would be fun to watch.

Indeed. Your time is valuable as we all know.

Just a quick FYI...Skiver was out of the office yesterday, but his assistant pretty much confirmed my suspicions. ;)

Brian Pohl, assistant principal at Memorial High School in St. Marys said the district currently has 63 students on probation, about 10 percent of the high school student body.

I'm not trying to "disprove" anything, Sparky. You issued a claim that you read something in a paper...I politely asked for a link, and you responded with the dubious "they don't have a website" line, and suggested I verify it on my own, which I did.

But since you ask, "Keeping watch" is listed as a "print only" story. It's not on the website as far as I can see. And assuming you do produce the article, Memorial High School's current enrollement is 840. What's 63 divided by 840 again?

Well, Queenie, I did not write the article, I just stated what it said. Your the one working hard to disprove me, it's becoming down right pathetic, but I am laughing at you, not with you.

Well, let's be honest, shall we? I never have to work too hard at that. Witness here where it seems I managed to do it whilst not even really trying. Of course, you should be used to that by now.

Anyway, I thought you were done?

It's a silly idea. It reduces the top/bottom gap in D1 from 700-600. On the upside though...you guys might actually win one. ;)

Here is thye type of thing that has slowed us down from winning one.

TRANSPORTATION Transportation to St. Edward High School is convenient from every community throughout Northeast Ohio. In addition to public transportation options, St. Edward outsources van transportation through Personal Leasing Transportation Co. Van transportation locations and costs for the 2011-2012 school year are listed below. If there is a location that is not listed and there is a high interest from that area, the company will accommodate the best possible way it can.

You and, "the boys", keep bringing up Massillon, this isn't a Massillon situation, it's bigger than that. Massillon has held their own considering the circumstances, don't worry about us. Of the 48 teams to have played in a state semi final since 2000, 18 of them have been in the top 32 in enrollment numbers, 19 were in the next 33-64. Only 11 teams have fell in the 65-119 area in terms of enrollment numbers. Massillon has done it 4 times, Perry once and Hoover once.

What exactly don't you people understand about his father being transferred here to Massillon for work?

I really don't understand it....Really. What is so hard about it?

His father supposedly works for Affinity Hospitals, and was rumored to be transferred to the Massillon Affinity. Heck, if ANY of it is true, the kid may stay in Ravenna. It's not like we're gonna provide transportation for this kid, no schools do THAT....Oh, wait.

If the parents of the kids attending St. Edward have a job is it ok then, or is this yet another example of where you look at one things for Massillon and another for the private schools?

You just went on using jobs as a reason to bring players into Massillon. I was simply asking if parents with jobs should also have the option to send their kids to a private school? Do you want the same rules or do you want the rules to just favor Massillon.

It still makes no sense. How are rules favoring Massillon when someone who works at a Hospital, gets transferred to another Hospital in Massillon and they move their family to Massillon?

I'm not even sure this has even happened, hence the word "rumor".
