2012 Wayne County Athletic League Football

1486wdpretty good analysis for what we know at this point. I do think the cats are the frontrunners as they have a lot of young talent, but you don't lose guys like wallace, zimmerly, maibach, wolfe, etc and not have at least a little drop off.
Bobcat;1121195 wrote:I think the WCAL will come down to a battle between Norwayne and Northwestern this year. Norwayne has a ton coming back and Northwesterns Sophmore class is very good. The loss of Wallace will definitely be felt but the talent pool is deep and the Cats should be able to adjust. I think they will hurt a little more on the defensive side of the ball but should still be able to score a bunch. With a healthy Noletti, Northwestern is going to be a load. He was really coming on after healing from his inhury last year and is blessed with alot of talent around him.
Dalton will definitely improve as they were very young last year but I still dont think they will have enough to contend for a championship. They did, however, do it in bball and nobody gave them a chance there.
I look for Smithville to be pretty good but they did lose a ton of talent. Both of the workhorse running backs, Tom Hilty and 2 of the top 5 linemen in the league for starters. My big question is what do they do at QB? Bates is a talented athlete but when people are keying on him, how will he hold up? Will the move him to try to utilize him more? It will be interesting to see what coach B comes up with.
Waynedale is a mystery to me and probably will remain that way since we know Beast will never give us any valuable information
I know Hillsdale is losing a ton but we'll see how Coach fills in the gaps. This is very intriguing to me. I ahve a lot of respect for Coach Williams and what he's done at Hillsdale. They'll be in the mix
Rittman and Chippewa..............nuff said -
oh yeah!!they don't loose all the zimmerly's

There was a nice bubble of talent there a couple of seasons ago, they graduated, the coach left, and they are struggling. They need to start changing the program one item at a time. Build some confidence, get their numbers up and restore the Rittman football back to level it once was.
Right now the program seems more like a rudderless ship. -
riders1Being about the size of Dalton in enrollment and having the smallest district, basically Rittman city limits, it will be a tough fix as they really do miss out not having the farm boys in the district to help them out and the weight room alone makes it hard to build a team.
-
Red Rider RazzleI always thought that Rittman should have a better team than what they normally fielded. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that they have had an established youth football program for quite a few years. I would have thought that the youth program should have kept the numbers and the quality of the High School team up. But then I guess it could also do the opposite, and by the time the kids reach high school, they are tired of playing football.

until rittman expands their school district outside of city limits i dont see them being a contender in football for a LONG time. Maybe norwayne could spare some land to their neighbors. They seem to have more than enough in their school district.riders1;1128292 wrote:Being about the size of Dalton in enrollment and having the smallest district, basically Rittman city limits, it will be a tough fix as they really do miss out not having the farm boys in the district to help them out and the weight room alone makes it hard to build a team. -

I played in the Rittman Eagle peewee program, and even back then it was more out of town kids than Rittman kids. I had 8 Orrville kids on my team with me.Red Rider Razzle;1128507 wrote:I always thought that Rittman should have a better team than what they normally fielded. In other news....I saw this Tweet on RedRider1's blog about the Plain Dealer: @TimsTakePD: Tomorrow's TIm's Take: On kicking Wayne County out of the OHSAA.
Anyone know anything about this? -
dhs22pNo but I think its just story that's based on his opinion.
-
Red RumThe "Tims Take" paragraph about Wayne County was satire. He simply points out that Wayne County officials complained about competitive balance then county teams won multiple state championships this year.
The most interesting part is that Timmy has redrawn the map to include Berlin in Wayne County.

bogeySo, does anyone know the latest of the turf coming in at Norwayne? Right after the State Title I heard they were going to get it taken care of, but haven't heard anything for quite some time now?
-
1486wdI heard the other day that they were still throwing it around - in other words, some people want to do it, currently the money is not there to do it, and they're talking to a "key"'alum to see if they can make it happen
-
bogeyI'm assuming the "key" alum is the same one they have talked to for everything else? That must be nice to have someone with the resources to go to like that when you feel necessary. I think it would be great for the other teams in the county as well to get to play on it when they visit the Cats. Just hope when the Dawgs visit it makes them as fast as it seemed to make the Cats when they hit the playoffs last year!
-
footballnutI spoke with a couple Norwayne buddies of mine this weekend. There is supposedly a group that has been formed to lay out the turf project. They are taking a proposal to the "Alumni" within the next week or 2. They claim it only takes 8 - 10 weeks for the whole project to be completed. It all comes down to how much he's willing to kick in.....fortunately it sounds like it was his idea. He went to the State Championship game and was fired up afterward. They say if it all falls together they will have it this year
-
elitesmithie05Good for them(no sarcasm)
-
THE4RINGZWCAL doesn't play on turf. You need old school grass and mud in your venue to play in this league.

The past 25 pages in a nutshell...
Blah, blah, blah, Norwayne is missing Wallace, blah, blah, blah Smithville has a new coach despite the drama, blah, blah, blah Dalton is getting new helmets, blah, blah, blah Northwestern kicks tail, and you can take that to the bank. -

Red RumWho is this "key alum" at Norwayne?
Its gotta be one of the 4 on my short list....
A. Dwight Schar- House building magnate and Washington Redskins minority owner.
B. Ryan Brown- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comic book guy.
C. Bradley- Owner of Bradleys in Sterling. Actually, anybody selling beer around Creston has to be making a killing, I'm guessing the location along the Creston/Rittman bike path has kicked Bradleys income into the "buy the high school turf" stratosphere.
D. Mr. Arnold- Local Bail Bondsman & cousin of Miyagi. -
1486wdits C of course - the monday spaghetti special is awesome
I actually think if someone in the league gets turf (as wrong as it seems - this is farm country football!!) it is some benefit to the rest of the league. That way, playing on turf in the playoffs isnt so foreign.
