2012 Wayne County Athletic League Football

    Waynedale football will be fine....I would bet Z isn't going anywhere....Urban Meyer would have a hard time beating Chippewa with the players he has.

    Hillsdale/Northwestern has alot of intrigue...


    Hillsdale is definitely the favorite IMO, sounds like the weather will be foul and that probably plays further into the Falcons favor...the Huskies will have bring one of their better efforts to come out on top...and that could happen.

    Northwestern can all but kiss the playoffs goodbye if they lose tomorrow night, while a victory will have the Falcons sitting pretty playoff wise. I think this will be a very competitive game.

    Pretty sure the Bears D can't pitch to shutouts and get two safteys to win them? Great offenses minds at work in the district(but lets not go there) seem it's all going to plan!

    Gonna give the NWN a pick here. Playing the same teams might tell you some things, but not the whole picture. There is a drive with this husky team and I think they make a good game our of it, if not win it. The diversity of the NWN offense is hard to handle. The line may not be huge, but they are completely strong to do their part. They will be harder to handle than what some are saying....

Cause the problem we have over here, it's always the line last year maybe avg. 230 arcoss the line and it was the line, this year not as big but it's the line?     Our line averaged 226 from tackle to tackle. Smallest line in the league, save one. We went 9-1.

    Lost in the Regional Championship to a team that only had two guys on the whole team over 200 pounds. They were fast, and that was what counted.

    You can absolutely do it with a small line.

    If you watch this years Waynedale team play...and don't watch the ball, but watch the play at the line of scrimmage, you will see 4,5, or even 6 kids just get liquified every play. It's not just that they are not very large, they are also slow and weak. Even with todays zone blocking schemes which give you a chance to suceed if you can just stay even in the trenches...Waynedale doesn't even have the players to do that.

    I do not think Z is a very good X's and O's coach...but what is going on is just the product of parents thinking their kids are better than they really are and laying it all on the coach. Sometimes parents need to step back and accept the fact their kids suck at football.:(

    You know, years of consistent time in the weight room is usually a good remedy for getting liquified at the line. You don't have to be the biggest, but you do have to have some strength.

    It's not the size of the kids, but rather, how big the kids play. HEART goes a long way in HS football.

    The 03' line averaged right around 200 lbs. The only ones above it were Tim Z. and Martin. Tons of other examples as well... I don't think the '02 smithies were much higher... Probably right around the 215/230 average.

    Before when I was comparing the size of the Northwestern lineman to the size of the Hillsdale lineman, I wasn't saying that small, fast lineman are a bad thing. In fact small, fast, strong lineman can be very good if the offense suits them. Urban Meyer recruited smaller, faster lineman for the Buckeyes this past offseason because our current offense does not suit slow strong lineman very well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Huskies run the spread offense, which suits smaller, faster lineman very well. So it is no fluke that the Huskies are 5-1 with a small, fast, strong offensive line.

    However, Hillsdale's offensive scheme works well for bigger, slower lineman, and they have the lineman to run their offense very effectively. That is why I gave my edge to Hillsdale because their offensive line will have their way with the smaller Northwestern defensive line. On the other side of the ball, Hillsdale has lineman with the strength and size to collapse the line with Switzer and Hamilton, but they also have speed with Bee and Zeno. However, if the Falcon lineman do not come out ready to play and the Huskies hold them back, I expect it will be a bad night for Hillsdale.

    That's about right for the '02 team. They were a pretty athletic bunch, but they were in the weight room CONSTANTLY and were a very disciplined bunch.
