Keeping up with all of the illegal recruiting of the parochials keeps us busy enough. -

BlueJMarion Local on their way to their 5th title since 2000. (4 DVI 6, 1 DV). This needs to be addressed, that farm town in the middle of nowhere obviously has an advantage.
P.S. This whole conversation would not bother me if it included successful Public schools as well. After DSJ's win last year all I heard from people was how we recruited. Marion is on their way to blowing out Buckeye Central, and I am confident they will get none of the accussations. (DSJ 6 titles all DVI. ML 5 titles after today) -

My team is a public school that has the same number of state titles that Massillon does.skank;998620 wrote:Said the guy who's team benefits from IR. Plus, this is only ther 1,000,000,000,000,000,th time you've said it, so, thanks for adding to the thread. -

Wow, your team has 22 titles also? Impressive. -

OK...let's go this route. Private schools recruit all the best football players, right? That's your contention?skank;997152 wrote:No, in all honesty, lets be serious here for a minute. Molin is trying to say that you only have 2 teams playing for a title this year, so there is no imbalance. I simply pointed out that over the last 18 title games, 13 have been won by parochials. That goes the other way.
Then how do you explain that out of the 24 Mr. Ohio winners in football, only 5 have attended private schools. Wouldn't you expect that if private schools recruited all the best players, that would be reversed? Shouldn't a private school athlete be winning Mr. Ohio every year?
In terms of the proposal above, I think it is too complicated. In my opinion, the fairest way to "even things out" would be to establish feeder schools for each high school. For example, Boardman would have Glenwood and Center. Mooney would have the private grade schools on the South Side (St. Nick, St. Charles, Holy Family). The only difficult part would be when schools traditionally split (like St. Christine where some students go to Ursuline, and others go to Mooney).
Any student that comes to the high school from that high school's feeder schools counts as 1. Any student that comes to the high school from outside the feeder system counts as 2. If a student has a disability that doesn't allow him or her to compete, that student is not counted. However, that student's name is placed on a list, and they are ineligible to compete. This would keep shady schools from trying to add students with ADHD to their disability list in order to lower their number.
Figure out the numbers from there, and divide into your 6 divisions using those figures. -

That's quite a reach there sherm, lol. Let's be conservative here and say there are 650 HS football teams in Ohio, conservatively again, lets say there are 50 kids per roster, that's what, 32,500 kids....You can't have em ALL, we need some too.

But if the private schools recruit all the best players...wouldn't there be more than just 5 Mr. Ohio's to come out private schools? It just doesn't make sense, skankers.skank;999798 wrote:That's quite a reach there sherm, lol. I guess some kids just can't be enticed by the vouchers/scholarships. -
sherm03
That's quite contrary to your stance for 3000+ posts. You would have everyone believe that private schools steal EVERY amazing football players out there.skank;1000069 wrote:I guess some kids just can't be enticed by the vouchers/scholarships.
Swiss cheese, skank. That's all your argument is anymore. -
skankThat's a little ridiculous sherm....Even for you.
Let's not forget those admission standards....If EVERYONE on your team was on vouchers, that would mean that you would have to accept way more single parent kids, kids with learning disabilities, kids that recieved free lunches at their other schools....etc. The way it is now, you have a good mix of coachable kids, and kids that may be a little harder to get things through to, yet have outstanding athletic abilities. -

You really don't know a lot do you? If a private school decides they are going to take vouchers...they don't get the luxury of picking and choosing which students of those that applied they can take into their school. You take one voucher student, you are agreeing to take all that apply to your school.skank;1000159 wrote:That's a little ridiculous sherm....Even for you.

Man, I don't even know if I would log on here anymore if I were you. I mean, at some point, you just have to stop and say, "this guy makes me look stupid every time I'm on here." You would think that you would have just given up by now... -

Ok, fine, but if said student doesn't keep his grades up, and doesn't live up to the great standards of a parochial school, do they, (the school), have the power to kick said kid out of school/take away his scholar, er, I mean voucher? -

Hate? .... ....Or LOVE? -
Rocket08You have to admit reading some guy from Massillon constantly whining about Parochial Schools and their advantages, and then hanging on to dear life 22 titles from over 40 years ago that were voted on, AND NOT EARNED while his program was moving people in, supplying jobs, and doing anything possible to build a successful program, is just sad
Meanwhile, they have kids from all over Stark County OUTSIDE of their school district attending his school
The best defensive player is from Canton, and the QB moved in from out of state.
But all of that is OK, because they are a public school, and Privates have an advantage
If he is the spokesman, this issue will go nowhere

Where did anyone single out any school? This has nothing to do with schools that consistently win. It has to do with an outdated system that arbitrarily places schools in classes based on faulty data. People on here that think this is about anything else either has self serving interests or refuse to look at the facts. There is no system that is going to be perfect, but there is somethings that can be done to be more fair for everyone.BlueJ;998860 wrote:Marion Local on their way to their 5th title since 2000. Mooney44CardsIEPs can be for something as simple as a learning disability which in no way would mean that the kid could not compete in sports.

Still waiting for an answer on this one. Anyone? It doesn't have to come from Sherm. Unless, of course, he didn't give anyone from thye parochial 7 permission to answer this question. -

Not if the kid struggles to stay academically eligible. -

Falcons53I am currently on an IEP trying to figure out what the heck you jackrabbits are talking about. Vouchers, open enrollment, etc. Whatever happened to going to the school in the district you live in? You want equality, fix the eduction part. The answer isn't go to a different school.
The other option is to sell the education system to the highest bidder and let a company run it. We are still in a capitalist country, not a socialist country right? Get rid of the dang participation trophy and make everyone accountable for success/failure. Maybe then, our kids won't be ranked what 55th in the world in math.
sorry, got off topic. Just sick of the idea of if something is broken, just quit and go somewhere else instead of fixing it. This is why our kids, and in turn entire society, is falling behind the rest of the world. Everybody looks for easy paths instead of knuckling down. -
O-TrapI was talking with PIT about this yesterday. Here was my little thought.
Add a multiplier to the Harbin system. Something like this:
Parochial school def. public school = normal Harbin points x .8
Public school def. parochial school = normal Harbin points x 1.2
Parochial school def. parochial school = normal Harbin points
Public school def. public school = normal Harbin points
The obvious problem is that parochial school will likely phase out public schools on their schedule in favor other parochial schools of similar Harbin value. Ultimately, I don't think it would end up working, but it was just an idea.
I say leave it be. As a former resident of Indiana, I do NOT like all teams in the playoffs.
