Hearing that coaching legend Mo Tipton is very ill in a hospital down in South Carolina...spoke with a person who knows the situation better than I do who said his organs are shutting down and doctors are not optimistic about recovery.

Thoughts and prayers to the Tipton family.

That is very sad. Our prayers go out for a healthy recovery.

Mo did die today. Don't know any of the details other than above.
  • RedRider1
    Flash,
found out from his assistant coach Gary Hutt. The two were the closest of friends.

Quick blog post with his coaching records and some pictures that will make you smile.

RIP to the architect of Red Rider Tradition.

We lost a legend with the passing of Coach Tipton. He was Orrville Football. Not only did the players love him,the cheerleaders, majorettes, band members, boosters and parents did as well. Growing up in Orrville ,and playing backyard football, sometimes Coach Tipton would come driving by and slow down, kinda see what was going on,man were we on cloud nine to see him. I dont care what side of town you came from, how much money you had, or who your daddy was, if you could play football, and willing to work hard, you could play for Coach Tipton. I have so many memories playing for Orrville ,and Coach Tipton is the one who made it possible. My thoughts and prayers go out to the the whole Tipton family, and know this, I Absolutely Loved Playing For Your Dad .

I feel the same way Throttle. I feel privileged to have played for Coach Tipton and been a friend for so many years. The phrase "they just don't make 'em like that anymore" sure pertains to Mo. One of a kind. Mo loved his family and was proud as a peacock to see son Clay recently get inducted into the HOF. He will be missed by many but never ever forgotten. Our prayers to his family. he epitomized Rider Pride! and Red Rider Tradition!

    Throttle,
    Well said.

Interesting isnt it that two legends in Mo and Smitty were both guys who didn't care where you came from or what color you were....so long as you bled Rider red.

Are you hearing good things out of Wooster?? Could this game become a rivalry again, or are we in for another decade of Coach McCroc and his band of stooges?

and RIP, big Mo. He was a character and one of a kind. Somebody should write a book about that guy.

Prayers go out to the family. He was Red Rider Football! I am thankful his hard work, dedication, tough love, and love for the game has made Orrville football what it is today. I never got to play for the man, but he gave 2 pregame speeches when I was in school and you could just see the desire he had for Orrville Football in his eyes. He will certainly be missed and will live forever in the minds of Red Rider fans.

Well another school has finally won a football title in our county. Let the arguments begin on which team is the county's best of all time...

Is it the 98 Orrville team or the 2011 Norwayne team.

Orrville fans we will never hear the end of this...be prepared!
  • BRF
In some ways that game yesterday reminded me of our '98 title game in that we were ahead most of the game, fell behind late, and then got the "immaculate reception", with Coldwater having one last shot.

All of this should be motivation enough for next year. I dont buy the crap of not being talented next year. Find a way to get in the postseason and let the ride begin!

    Ah geez....Good Luck Riders!!!

Maybe Red Rider Nation will get that book wrote to motivate the kids to will themselves talent and success!

Does it sting a little, sure because we all want that week 12 game back, BUT Norwayne had an exceptional TEAM this season....they kicked our a** in the second round and won a state title to finish the season. Nothing really to be ashamed of on our part.....they shut down some pretty darn good offenses (ours wasn't one of them) this season and added hardware for Wayne county football.

    Really old r,...the entire week leading up to the game against Norwayne all we read was how Norwayne;
a-hadn't played any good/strong teams this season
    b-hadn't played against a defense like Orrville's
c-hadn't played against a team with the speed of Orrville's
d-had no speed to match Orrville's
    e-had no tradition
    f-had only been to the playoff's 3 times vs Orrville's 22 times
    g-could not stop Monheim

When did the WCAL and OC ever hear the end of it from Orrville bloggers?

If you've noticed, the Orrville threads have been rather quiet, since the loss to Norwayne!

Heck, the varsity basketball team played Saturday night and they didn't even get a preseason or pregame prediction as most of you are wont to submit.

I started the 2011-2012 Orrville basketball thread ;)

Hey Series last time I checked this is a 2012 Orrville thread. All you mentioned is in the past. We cant go back and change what happened this year. I can tell you one thing though: WE WILL BE BACK!

1st post I have ever read of yours that had any merit!

Hey rrn, last time I checked, it is 2011...and all I mentioned is in the not too distant past and pretty much every thing that is spoken of has happened, "in the past"! Isn't all Orrville's talk of tradition regarding events that happened, "in the past"?

I'm sure that Orrville will be back, after they get "back", you can then speak of more events that happened, "in the past"!
