Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

FlashDover, Claymont, New Philly, West Holmes, Orrville, Northwest was one of the proposals. You'd need to add a couple more, Wooster and Cloverleaf would be possibles. This would cut our driving some. There are other options going North and east with larger schools.

How about CCC and Barberton, both independents right now ,I believe.Flash;1077155 wrote:Dover, Claymont, New Philly, West Holmes, Orrville, Northwest was one of the proposals. RedRider1How is Dover, NP and Claymont better than Lex, CF and the Mansfield schools?
Driving across 30 is much better than driving down 250, IMO. -
unc4lifeNot sure I understand why Orrville would want to leave the OCC so bad? I find it interesting that the reason is that you cant compete in all sports? You think a confrence with Dover New Philly and Northwest is a lighter schedual then Mansfiled, Lex, and Madison? Plus you want to bring in Wooster who would dominate soccer, cross country, and other smaller sports still. Im not an Orrville fan but as an OCC fan Orrville has had some major success in both boy, and girls sports in the OCC. Maybe not the all the championships you want, but as someone who played and still enjoys sports, confrence crowns are nice, but its all about the tournament, and the OCC gets you prepared better then any league you can make up.
-
riders1I think it is because of the talk of the OCC adding teams west of Mansfield and being the easternmost team now , so that would bring additional travel and most teams are always looking to cut travel times and distances, so a more easterly look is always something to look at. There are also is the fact that we play in tournaments against teams more from this area and playing a more local schedule and Dover , New Phila, and Northwest are on a level with the Mansfield's and Lex in a lot of sports.

FlashI don't think its the competition that we don't like. Its the drive with the possibility of adding Ontario, Shelby and Marion Harding to the league and making it a 2 division league. That makes the drive worse. We don't necessarily want to go, but the refusal to add any teams this way and the possibility of being forced out are things that have to be considered proactively. Any conference we go to, all the teams will be bigger than us.
-
Old RiderI know its a scheduling nightmare, but what about going independent again?
I am one that could care less about league titles, individual honors, and all that crap. We have been in 2 leagues since being independent and all we have done is gripe about drive times and competing! How is a new league gonna change that?? I am certain that if we leave the OCC or create a new league, in 5-6 years the folks in charge will be making the same complaints and we will be discussing options once again.
I think if we are exploring leagues, then lets find one that fits OUR CRITERIA:
1. Less mileage
2. Be competitive
...according to those items there are only 2 leagues that make sense for us...
1. WCAL
2. PAC
However, neither of those leagues would ever accept us and Orrville fans "think" we are better than that! -

Ontario
Shelby
Marion Harding
Mans. Sr.
Madison
Lexington
OCC-East
WH
Orr
Woo
Cloverleaf
Ashland
CF
Scenario above assumes that the OCC adds Cloverleaf, which I'm not sure they're looking to do.
It makes sense in theory, but in football you'd play the other 5 teams in your division, and then what? Assume we'd rotate 2 teams from the other division every couple of years...but then there'd always be that problem of not everyone playing everyone.
Same thing with basketball. Do you play teams in your division twice (10 games) or everyone once (11 games), and then have a post-season tournament where the top 2 from each division get a bye? -
REDRIDER555A question for someone in the know, if we would leave the OCC is there not a fee we have to pay for leaving early, all the chatter seems to indicate we are out this year or next, I was under the assumption that we had to give a two year notice if we were to leave? Or if they have a team that wants in is the fee waived?

OQBInteresting news out of Genoa: From a poster on this site.
"Vicars fired the rb coach buckley, ( because buckley and DC speiss didn't get along) so after that I guess 4 other coaches resigned because of the firing and the reason vicars gave them."
wow! -
REDRIDER555Can’t wait till kick off, a lot of the boys are working hard in the weight room.

Northwest and Orrville need to be the pioneers and invent a new league. IMOOld Rider;1078077 wrote:I know its a scheduling nightmare, but what about going independent again?

Orrville will continue to look at other options outside the OCC and I think each of the "proposals" that I have heard included Northwest.Lockup Screen;1121806 wrote:Northwest and Orrville need to be the pioneers and invent a new league. IMO
I still wouldn't mind seeing the Red Riders explore the independent route again. I know its a scheduling nightmare, but it worked before. -
rrfanI like the fact that we are in a league. The independent route like when old rider and I were in high school has some drawbacks. The main one I saw was there were weeks where we were basically off or could name the score. A game like that gave us no points in the computers for the season. That was a big factor because at the time they only took 4 per region.

wow!
Is Vicars still looking at going to Evergreen???? -
rrfanWhy is it that we care about Genoa? I know there is a connection with us and the playoffs but why is the Vicars name sound like I should know something that I don't?
-
Old RiderThe only thing we need to know about Vicars is that he is 0-2 against the Riders!
-
riders1Only 154 more days until kickoff at Northwest
-
riders1Anyone heard rumors of a couple kids inquiring about transfering into Orrville?
-
rrfanNo I have not. Where from?
-
riders1A big city to our west.
-
RedRider1as always in these situations....when they show up for practice or class within the Orrville system, then I'll worry about it.
We do have some homes for sale in the community in case people are looking. -
rrfanyes we do have some homes for sale and I will add that I hope the AD and staff do there job is some kids transfer in and MAKE SURE THEY ARE ELIGIBLE! Sorry I could not resist that one...

:laugh:If we were to get a transfer in we would need his forty time, to see how quick he could get the mail in, also his bench press , to see if he is capable of putting up the garage door. We are only thinking of the home owner, no other reason for this information.rrfan;1125003 wrote:yes we do have some homes for sale and I will add that I hope the AD and staff do there job is some kids transfer in and MAKE SURE THEY ARE ELIGIBLE!
