Struthers Football 2012

omemorialhighlol...btrev starts rambling sometimes and cant stop. diarrhea of the mouth lol
-
BTrevYeah, my bad. I do talk too much sometimes. I'll give you that. Please forgive me for trying to keep things lively around here.
Ohio... what was so idiotic about that last paragraph?
Naturally the bigger guys are gonna play on the lines, and the smaller guys are gonna play the skill positions. There are plenty of exceptions to that though... that's all I was saying.
How big was Ja'les Hughes? Maybe 5'10/150. He wasn't really a physically imposing or intimidating presence... but he set records, ran for over 3000 yards in 2 years, and scored how many TDs... not to mention he was 2 years All State and MVP.
Look at Girard. They weren't the biggest team in the state by any means. Their defense was so small, they didn't even use a defensive line at times. But they were within 2 minutes of knocking off the eventual State Champs.
Then there's LaBrae. Their lines last year didn't average 200 pounds, and they ran Struthers right off the field... and made the playoffs.
It may just be me... but I'd rather have someone on my team with speed, technique, work ethic, will power, and heart... and not necessarily all of those... than someone who relies solely on their size alone. -
OhioI told you I'm not going to respond to it, correct on the smaller kids can play bigger positions but when you need a small player to play his right position to be successful then u let them and make them play there, playing at a smaller school u can get away with having small players all around not when you play howland Canfield and Poland you will have no shot, Hughes was around 170 also and never ran through anyone, his speed and moves made him the player he was. The Campbell game will not be a measuring stick their size they should beat Campbell 7/10 times, they need to play good with the big boys, we will see what they show against kent Roosevelt first tho
-
BTrev
I agree with most of that... except Struthers would regularly hang with and beat Howland, Canfield, Niles, and Poland... with guys like Toby Louk,Jim Moody, and Shawn Rydarowicz, on the defensive line, and Bob Stouffer, Brian Walton, and Joel Lariccia, at LB. Granted, it was like 9-14 years ago.Ohio;1203544 wrote:I told you I'm not going to respond to it, correct on the smaller kids can play bigger positions but when you need a small player to play his right position to be successful then u let them and make them play there, playing at a smaller school u can get away with having small players all around not when you play howland Canfield and Poland you will have no shot, Hughes was around 170 also and never ran through anyone, his speed and moves made him the player he was. Naturally, you want everyone to play the position that fits them the best, and is also in the best interest of the team. That's common sense. Sometimes the best interest of the team though, is to let the smaller guys play the bigger positions.
But just like playing small guys across the board for whatever reason can get you killed against bigger teams, playing big guys across the board just because they're big can get you killed too. The best players should play, regardless of size. It usually averages out to a good balance...
I'm definitely not saying size is a bad thing to have... especially with Howland, Canfield, Niles, and Poland, on the schedule. You do need some big guys here and there to compete with them. Not everyone needs to be huge though.
What are the 2 biggest problems Struthers has had in the post Zetts era? 1. They haven't been able to find a Head Coach. 2. They've had too many kids that just didn't care about football, and were more concerned with partying or being wannabe gangsters.
It hasn't been for a lack of size, or speed, or talent.
I think we were kinda saying the same things... just from different perspectives. We don't see eye to eye... what else is new?
50 days until Kent Roosevelt. 66 days until Campbell. Go Cats!!
PS- I think you're grossly underestimating Campbell. -
BTrevPossible RB transfer coming in from Mooney...

Btrev Toby Louk is my EX Brother inlaw. LOL and his cousins are Horvath's. I was at the game he blew his knee out. His knee was gone the play before it went out completely. Zetts asked him if he was ok. He lied and said yes. Went in and made a cut and he hit the ground without being touched. I freaked out cause my wife went crazy and was balling over it, He was very small but heart made him the player he was. Strong kid back then. I use to tease him and say if you played for Campbell you would be the biggest kid on the team. Campbell was very small back when he was playing.BTrev;1203983 wrote:I agree with most of that... except Struthers would regularly hang with and beat Howland, Canfield, Niles, and Poland... with guys like Toby Louk,Jim Moody, and Shawn Rydarowicz, on the defensive line, and Bob Stouffer, Brian Walton, and Joel Lariccia, at LB. omemorialhigha couple of kids came BACK from mooney last year to campbell. the harsh reality is this...mooney is a football factory and will be a powerhouse until the state does something to even the playing field. alot of these kids go there and just simply dont crack the lineup. so the question is play at a public or ride the pine at mooney?
-
Spread All Day^ Win a state title ridin pine or win 5 games public? That's the real issue
-
omemorialhighyou are exactly right spread...couldnt agree more. i have known kids that have done both...i know kids that never saw a minute on the field but got a ring. i guess id rather play but thats me, back in the day we stuck together. nowadays its all about what can i do for myself.
-
BTrevHere's a totally unrelated stat, that I came across a couple days ago... I thought it was interesting.
Acording to myvalleysports.com, Muntean led the entire area (basically a large chunk of NE Ohio and W Pennsylvania) in completion percentage with an insane 69.3%. Colin Reardon was the only other QB to complete over 65% (65.1%).
Take it for what you want... he did only throw a small fraction of the number of passes that QB's like Reardon. Anthony Franco, Zac Baily, Dan Graziano, etc, were asked to throw.
I do think it's impressive... maybe not as impressive as it might have been, if he had done that as the full time starter and had to throw 120+ passes... but still impressive.

OhioNot underestimating campbell, i just think we will have a better team then we had all around then last year and they might miss jales until they find a pure go to type of guy. Obviously you have to beat campbell week 1, but i want to see them competitive the second half of the schedule against the big boys. No knock on campbell they just arn't in the level poland and howland are as struthers isn't either as of right now.
-
OhioMuntean has grow around 2 inches since last year and put on some bulk, has the fire to really get on his players and motivate them to do big things, Struthers has needed a QB like this for years, someone who gets mad when losing rather then just blowing it off and saying whatever #goCATS
-
BTrevOhio...
I could not agree more with your last 2 posts. Very well said! # Go Cats!
My boys Braxton Koup and David Stewart both got some love from the myvalleysports.com players to watch lists, for LB and RB respectively. They've only listed the LBs, RBs, WR/TEs, and the DL. I thought Vinny deserved a mention on the TE list, but I don't know what his numbers were. Evidently they weren't flashy enough.
I think Muntean will definitely get a shout out when they list the QBs to watch, and maybe Mike Pape when they list the OL to watch. -
OhioI think vinny did better on D last year he didn't catch many balls but did some of the dirty work. Tommy will be getting double coverages this season you can bet on that.

Diet CokeSince we finally have a rainy Sunday afternoon in the valley, thought I might start some chatter on what games are winnable in 2012....
no science to this, just thoughts off the top of my head....
Campbell: 50/50....rivalry game.....guess who shows up to play wins it.....
Lakeview.....Cats never play well up in Cortland.....
Field....Don't know much about the Falcons....I'd like to think Cats win it....
Brookfield....Warriors were pretty good last year....I think the Cats should win...being a bigger school
Hubbard...Cats should be competitive...outcome? pick'em
Poland....will pay to play hurt the Dogs? Go with Poland?
Beaver Local.....New coach there.....I believe we should win this one.....
Canfield.....probably not.....
Niles...I think we win this one.....but it is at Niles....As they say, we can't beat Trumbull County refs.....
Howland.....beating the Tigers would be a tall order.....
Ok, chime in.....have fun.... -
Spread All DayCampbell - win
Lakeview - loss
Field- win
Brookfield - loss
Hubbard - win
Poland - loss
Canfield- loss
Niles -win
Howland - loss
Beaver local -win -
Spread All DayPoland and Brookfield can really go either way
-
OhioCampbell - W - More experience then Campbell improved coaching
Lakeview - W - If they beat campbell with momentum and if they contain the spread
Field- Toss up
Brookfield - Toss up - If they contain Quinlan and Mosora they can win by decent margin
Hubbard - W - Came too close the last 2 years the fires burning
Poland - Toss Up
Canfield- Toss up
Niles - W - Niles is pretty young at the QB position ive heard
Howland - L - Smith could be too dynamic to go against
Beaver local - W Cats usually have their way with the beavers -
soupcitysoldier9-1?
-
OhioNo 6-4 in my eyes. If i said 9-1 there would be W's next to the games, not sure if your reading skills are up to par over there tho :]. The toss up games are winnable games but arn't going to be favored in any in my opinion could very well lose all of them and its just a prediction they could go anywhere from 0-10 to 10-0 never know till they strap em on.
-
OhioIn good note tho Bill B the patriots head coach donated 57 thousand dollars to the stuthers football program!
-
soupcitysoldieractually toss up means 50-50 aka pick em aka it could go either way lol so your post indicates that 9-1 is within the realm of possibility thus i put a question mark after "9-1". you only have struthers down for one for sure loss. i just wanted to verify that you are acknoledging that a 9-1 record is possible in your book. 4-6 in my book. feel free to mark that down.
-
OhioMark whatever you want down they will start 1-0, and play a schedule 10x better then your devils who will play a weak schedule and miss out on the playoffs again.
-
Spread All DayGo cats
-
soupcitysoldierok sounds good...maybe youre right! maybe youre wrong! who knows! smallest school in that conference correct?
