Yes, we did get screwed in those two game. And it IS "typical" for die hard Rider fans to say such things. What's the problem with that? I'm with ya, Diehard Rider Fan!

In 1986, anybody who was standing down there on the south goal at old Maurer Field, whether Blue and Gold or Red and White, know what the truth was on that one.

I looked up the 2002 game from last year's DR special edition and read this quote from Kascindi (in addition to what Diehard Rider Fan said about the end): "Everyone was like, "Spike it, spike it". I saw (Orrville) was spread just a little bit and I thought maybe I could get it in." Wooster ended the year at 6-4, Orrville at 2-8.

Going WAY back, we had some real pastings laid on us by the Generals. We have the 1913 (and only the second game in recorded history) of 55-0. That year, we played Wooster twice and in the second game we got blasted 67-0. 1914: 55-0. 1930 and 1931: BOTH 61-0.

After all that, to be at 50-41-9 is quite amazing!

Go Riders! Put that 7th L in a row on LLLLLLLoyd McCreary! :)

If you were at either one of those games or watched them on tape you couldn't even deny it. I'm one that will say time and again that good and bad calls go both ways so there isn't any point in whining about them. Especially with high school officials. There aren't enough and its not a profession. That being said I can't understand for the life of me why a guy would be pointing to a spot to mark the ball while blowing his whistle and then change his call.

Paul had the ball across the line by at least 2' before he hit the ground. The problem was that the official was way too slow on getting to the goal line and he basically had to guess. He guessed wrong. The worst game I remember was the one at Wooster, I believe in 2002, when the official was blowing his whistle pointing down to the ground that the qb was down as he was running in on the last play and after a 3rd effort and the play was completely over he stuck the ball over the line and the official changed his call on the way in. You can actually see him pointing down on tape. Those 2 games add to my complete and utter hatred of Wooster.
Whether or not that "phantom" touchdown actually happened in 1986 at Mauer Field, begs the bigger issue that had we not burned all of our timeouts early in the second half, we could have still punched it in and won the game. Coach Tipton had a habit of getting the play called down from Coach Vodika and deliberating if he agreed with the call or not, thus using up the play clock. Hence, no timeouts left, and losing a heartbreaker.

Out of curiosity, diehard, are you saying that you were standing on the goal line on crutches as an injured player or as a spectator?

LOL...that's just classic! The last few remaining diehard fans of Wooster football are hoping that the correct decision gets made this offseason and someone finally awakes the sleeping Giant.

I would actually like to thank the Wooster seniors for their devotion, blood, sweat, and tears that they gave on the field this season for the Wooster program. For most of you guys this Saturday night will be the last time you strap that helmet on and I hope you guys understand now just how sweet it would be to go out with a win over Orrville in your final High School game. Leave it all on the field and make us proud. Go Woo!

I hate to pick on the Daily Record, but with all the things to talk about in regard to Orrville-Wooster or just Orrville football in general, why do you try to insinuate that our injuries are to blame for our setbacks. I am proud of the fact that none of the guys fell into that trap. "We play with who we have" ..."other guys step up and fill roles"..and expect to win every time we take the field. Maybe a mention of the fact that by week 11 this year our senior class will have been involved in 48 High School football games? Might that not be more interesting than a few broken bones and pulled muscles? Not many programs can boast those stats the past few years. JMO

Maybe I fall into that category of a spoiled Red rider fan? We can't help it that we always want more!!

I think the kids did a nice job of dismissing injuries as a reason for anything this season.

Liked Matt's words especially...sounds like his injury really brought clarity and maturity to him.

Hard to hide your emotions...Go Woo! But go McCreary! You don't average 34 points a game and not win...should win more than 4 games! AND it's like this every year!
  • WoosterPride
Hey our swim team is pretty good too! lol

^^^ so is the Speech and Debate team!

Hate to break it to you Pride but the Riders have had more success at the state meet as far as placing and medalists the past four years than the generals and we don't even have a real swim team! lol! (just messing with ya....you have a phenomenal program in the pool)
