WOOSTER v. orrville part 101
-
5knotsI never thought of that? That is an interesting idea. We need some guys to get 100% for sure. hmmmmm. I'll have to sleep on this one.
-
Full ThrottleBeat Wooster.

OQBI do know this, The game is more important to Orrville than it is to Wooster......and we have seen that in the past 7 years. Wooster football is in a sad state right now and is in need of new leadership to get this rivarly back to what it once use to be.
BEAT wOOster!!!! -
RedRider1BRF brings up an interesting point....
I think the worst we finish is 4th....even with no 2nd level help....so it's something to think about.
Is beating Wooster a bigger deal that playoff success...and to have that success, you need guys at their absolute healthiest.
I think if our offense was cruising along, you think about this....but we need all the help we can get...and if we're changing plays and tinkering with new formations, we need the reps. I also think Coach D has too much respect for the rivalry to NOT put his best out there. -
5knotsI would probably agree with that RR1, but it is an interesting idea
-
RedRider1FYI...my best guess at how the region finishes...

BRFThank you for giving me some "cred", RR1!
You said: "I also think Coach D has too much respect for the rivalry to NOT put his best out there."
I agree......he's "old school" on that!
You should have started this thread, btw. -
OQBBeating wooster is one of our goals....and that is important to him and to the players. I say let the young men play and hope we can build a lead to give them some rest AND let young guys get a taste of varsity action in the rivalry.

THE4RINGZThe fact remains, I don't know if the current Wooster players do realize that orrville is such a rivalry. I told to some of them and it seems like just another game on the schedule. But when I talk to old timers, people who graduated in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's (not that those people are really older timers) they absolutely hate everything about orrville. They get what a rivarly this game is supposed to be. I do, at the risk, of beating a dead horse, believe that some if not all of the blame for that comes from the coaching staff. How did it slip to the point it is at? The booster club has numerous activities during orrville Week to gain the support of the locals. I honestly believe they go out of their way to try to keep this game where it belongs in the mind of the Wooster faithful. Yeah, we can read on here and other threads how the entire Wooster population is becoming more and more apathetic regarding football, but that is a symptom not the illness itself. If Wooster can win a few with their new coach over orrville, then maybe, at least, in the player's minds, this game takes more of a center stage. The most hard to understand part about this lack of focus on this game, is that the coach played here, he knows the history. I would imagine that when the coach played here, the day you got the new calendar for the year you found the date of the orrville game and put a big red circle around that day. Why has he let that slip away also?
BRF, boo hoo hoo keep crying me a river about this thread. We get it, you don't like the title, you don't like the first post, you especially don't like the fact it wasn't started by an orrville fan. Grow up or stop posting here. Pretty simple, it's an internet message board, everything isn't going to go your way. -
BRF
Not true. I listed ccrolly. But I should have said "anybody, but you".THE4RINGZ;943110 wrote:......don't like the fact it wasn't started by an orrville fan.
Ahhh, the old "it's an internet message board", eh? Grow up? Why don't YOU do us all a favor and stop posting!?!:thumbup:THE4RINGZ;943110 wrote:Grow up or stop posting here. Pretty simple, it's an internet message board.. -
Full ThrottleCoach Davault will go all out for this one.The seniors wouldnt want it any other way.I have not seen Wooster play this year but they will be ready.Imo their team wants this more than anything. We better be ready. No turnovers,no stupid penaltys, leave everything on the field.Focus,Focus.Make us proud.Go Riders. BEAT WOOSTER

RedRider1Wooster week stats:
In 100 previous meetings, the two teams have combined to score 2960 points. If they put up 40 combined this Saturday, we'll see the 3000th point scored in this rivalry. Pretty neat.
Wooster holds a 1645 to 1315 scoring edge, but since 1960, Orrville has held a 976-672 advantage. Speaks to how lopsided this rivalry used to be that Orrville has outscored Wooster by 300 points and STILL trails the all-time series scoring by 300. -
Diehard Rider FanI know I'm one of those "old-school" guys but I absolutely hate everything about Wooster! The talk of the rivalry not being what it was is a short-term discussion. Woosters not ready to lay down their football program. The longer we can keep it one-sided the better.
-
CCRollyLooking at the Joe Eitel site....if the starts align and it snows in hell this weekend, AND Wooster wins....we may have a shot at the playoffs at 5-5. What in Sam Hell is that? I picked up my tickets today at the High School...debating if I want to come over early for some tailgating and my Wooster Generals cornhole set.
-
rrfanFirst, this rivalry is not dead and Wooster is a good test this week. Orrville is a train wreck on Offense and that needs fixed before the playoffs. I don't want to hear any crap about sitting players or anything else. Win the game, Orrville is not good enough to sit players and win. They are 16-18 year old boys and this is Wooster week they could play a full game every day this week and have more left in the tank. Go Win Riders!!!
-
5knotsI'm with you 100% rrfan. I knew that would strike a nerve......at least I hoped it would! lol
-
OQBWell said rrfan!
-
BRFLooks like the fans are calling for us to go all out on this one. I like it!
BRF now takes a deep breath and exhales..............ah yes, no sign of Ringz in nearly 18 hours. How refreshing.
5knots: BRF is working hard to put on a good show on Friday afternoon. Hope you will like it! -
THE4RINGZApparently my point was misunderstood, I didn't say the rivalry was dead to the Wooster players, I said I don't believe they understand the relevance of the rivalry.
And yes BRF I haven't been on the site for a while, I had to work today. -
BRFYeah..............whatever.......
ANYHOW...........
I like this kind of stuff........from RR1:

Us old guys know that when this series first started out, Wooster took us to the wood shed! I like to compare it to Ohio St./Meeshigan. Spanked in the beginning, but now turning it around. We started playing in 1903 and lost like 12 in a row until we won one in 1917. Then we won a few more here and there and on up to the 1960's when we had some dynamite teams in '68 and '69 coming into the big game at 9-0 and TIED both years. The series score by that time was something like 40-17 and I honestly felt like we would never win another game. Then the tide turned. And even in that "tide", there were some games that got away from us, like in 1986 when we were in the end zone but it wasn't called and in 2004 (I think) that Mac decided Hiller was too beat up to go OT and we went for two and the pass was dropped.
So let's just make history and win our 7th in a row!
Beat Wooster! -
OQBHow come their wasn't anything in the paper today about the game....I remember they used to have an article every single day on the game plus a captains diary section. Is the paper making light of the rivalry now too?
-
CCRollyCrap....you guys didn't sniff the goal line in '86...keep dreaming. And in 2004 the pass wasn't dropped, Hiller slipped as he planted to throw and threw it at the receiver's feet. The worst for you is yet to come...what are you going to do when the McCreary's are celebrating and owning the "O" at midfield after the game?

I do think the rivalry only exists in Orrville, You will see that Saturday night by looking at the away stands. They will be less than half full Im sure. Friends and family of coaches and players will make the short drive and thats about it. Now Im gonna call out the fans of Orrville. Week after week I sit at the 20 yd line at the south end of the stadium and it is virtually empty. Away games this year have been a few seldom fans. Where is everyone at? When I was young you had to get to the stadium by 6pm just to get a seat. Im fine with it but please dont jump on the bandwagon now! I have been to every game this year and dont live in Orrville. As usual though Im sure we will see faces in Week 11 and beyond that havent shown up all year. -
THE4RINGZThe Wooster side of the stands will be full. And not just band parents this time, I believe Wooster has a nice following and their fans will show up. People over here know they need to show up. I do like what the booster club is doing to gain some support for the team.
Here is an example of how the old school die hards over here view the game. I can say to my wife ( Class of 1988 Wooster High School ), at any given time, "what we gonna do tonight?", her response, "beat orrville." Not so sure that chant is so popular any more in the 44691. -
Red Rider Nation
No way will that bleacher be full. Hasnt been in a long time. The only team that travels to the O-town is Northwest. If it is, maybe its because Orrville usual bandwagoners are catching on in week 10 and the home side is full.THE4RINGZ;944273 wrote:The Wooster side of the stands will be full.
