I have a question for the Big Red faithful, if Big Red and Creek win out and face each other in the playoffs would it be one of the biggest games ever held at Harding Stadium in modern times? I would think that the game would sell out within hours and security would be unlike any other game at Harding.

After three weeks, Buchtel, Ursuline, Bishop Ryan, O'Hara, East Liverpool, and Baltimore Mt. St. Joseph have failed to win a game. All they have is losses and open dates. Buffalo St. Joe's and Brooke are lucky to have won a game. This is not helping Big Red. I'll make the prediction that Big Red has to go undefeated to get home field in the playoffs.

When you brought this up last week I thought you were full of it.LOL
After looking at the schedules, second level points could be hard to come by. Your starting to make me a believer.
It's still early and I believe a 9-1 still gets a 2 seed behind Mooney.

No, we have had many big games in modern times...this year's Massillon game (along with 2009) are bigger. The 1985 Big Red/Wintersville playoff game was huge...because at that time Wintersville really had a chance to beat Big Red.

I can't imagine it being bigger than the Massillon game in '09. Especially since most neutral fans wouldn't see it as a competitive matchup. SHS vs IC I was gained a lot of interest but after a poor showing by Creek interest declined.

That Massillon Gm was really something though. It was such a hyped game and then to see Big Red just smack Massillon in the mouth the way they did was unreal. I've never seen a high school team come out flying like that. The Red was out for blood.

Naturally it would be a sellout but it wont be near as big a game as the Massillon game . I dont know why security would be so huge a deal .. We all live in the same community everybody knows everybody ..there would be added security for the size of the crowd and to make sure no vandals would be striking after the game I assume

I would think that if Indian Creek made the playoffs this year, it would mean they had a good team compared to other years that they played Big Red. I think a 10-0 Big Red vs a 9-1 Indian Creek would draw a massive crowd considering the outcome of the game could put IC in the headlines across the entire state and think of the bragging rights that IC would have over Big Red, unthinkable. Big Red people would have to cancel their accounts on here and every other site on the internet. I couldn't even imagine how sonofsam would handle himself, he would be unbearable.

We wouldnt cancel our accounts ... Lets see if you guys can beat a St C first huh honestly andnot being a smart butt looking at IC scedule ... they will get creamed by St C Bellaire is a toss up Martins Ferry is a loss @ Harrison is a toss up @ Edison could be a toss up ...I hope IC does go 9-1 and they play us in a playoff game ..can you imagine if they had to play Mooney ..... oh my it would be soooooo ugly ..much like the first time we played Mooney in a playoff game

I think and feel, if IC wins friday night, they could very well finish at 9-1. I'm not good at the point system, but at 9-1 they could host the first round. but right now it's still too early.

Lets first start with the "you guys" comment, I am not a Creek fan and pretty sure I have made that clear on here in the past. I do hope they win their games just as I hope all the area teams win their games. I have followed Big Red for years and like the way they run their program and what the school offers their students so I do support them more than any other school but I just enjoy high school football. I really don't see Creek finishing better than 7-3 but I thought it would make good conversation because anything can happen in high school football. Buckeye Local, St.Clairsville, are a loss. Edison and Harrison are wins, the rest are a toss up.

Definitely one of my favorite games of all-time. I was lucky enough to be on the sidelines, too. That crowd was just... wow. And, the performance...

Well, let's just say that we shot our proverbial wad that night... That team was never quite the same after that game, but it was almost worth it for that one nearly flawless performance.

Actually, I shouldn't say flawless... We should have scored a TD early on and fumbled going into the end zone. The score was much closer than the actual game.

As for IC-Big Red being 'the biggest game at Harding Stadium in modern times'? No way. The Massillon one is clearly the greatest home game in the last decade plus.

A really underrated game was Niles McKinely in 2000 as the last game of that season. They came into that game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the Division II AP Poll. They had also beaten a really great Big Red team the season before in a bit of a shocker.

We struggled a lot of that season. Although I still think that team was really good, they were also really snake-bitten. We lost some games we really shouldn't have and entered the game a decided underdog.

Finally, that team put it all together and played like everyone knew they could... We beat Niles pretty badly. I think the final was 9-0, but it was never really in doubt. That Big Red team failed to make the playoffs, but they finished the season on a great note.

The season-opener in 1994 against Woodland Hills also comes to mind as a game that was just absolutely huge.

A game like that, to me, is much bigger than even a playoff game with the current version of Indian Creek. That isn't intended as a slight to them. The assumption -- after our most recent series with them -- would have to be that the game would not be competitive.

I really enjoyed the Red's '05 win against DeSales. The '85 game vs. Wintersville was a classic. MOW and I even made the news that night!

I think the final was 14-2 ...and we took a safety on a punt at the end of the game. I was working Man O' War that night...I think I used the entire tank of propane...and all of the horn! lol.

I remember staying up all night waiting for the paper to come out so we could read the stats and check scores of other playoff games...long before Al Gore invented the internet!

Did you guys see how hyped Massillon was last year when they won ..... Fireworks going off and all the cars honking after the game when they beat us ... Youd have thought they won a regional championship or beaten Iggy .. I guess beating us was a pretty big deal to them also ... This years game is going to be nuts we need an extra 10,000 seats no kidding

I also remember how a bunch of Massillon fans threw rocks at the Big Red Boosters Club bus. I hardly think they would like it if we did the same to them.

Ah... I'm sure you're right. I knew that someone got a safety late. I was thinking it was us with a 7-0 lead. It was obviously them when we led 14-0.

Regardless, that is a game that is rarely discussed in topics like this, but it should be. Tough year, but they finished about as well as any Big Red team has ever finished. That Niles team was very good.

It might not be as cordial as the first meeting .. I think we all knew Big Red was not going to lose that first meeting .... This game is going to be a toss up and it will be some crazy hitting in this one ... It will be like days of old .. going to be a great game Ill be there ... Fairwood you coming in for this one??? Get your airfare now or plan for a long ride .. Bring a friend if your riding ..You need to share the duties

If IC came in at 9-1 then I think that would be pretty huge. But that's a big big BIG if. In other words it's not happening. But just pretend they did: it may be the biggest game for IC fans ever at Harding Stadium but I would have to believe Big Red has played way bigger games than that. And the day IC beats SHS there is the day Hell freezes bc there's no way the Red loses that game against an inferior team, knowing they have to live next door to Creek.

I'd love to see that matchup though. I hope IC wins out n it happens but Itd be ugly.

If IC would happen to get into the playoffs & got Mooney in the 1st round God help them.

Unlike us Mooney would make it a statement game and put 63 up on them just so if they met a better IC team down the road they would already be down 14 before playing ... Just like they did to us in 81
  • sonofsam
I'm not here to stir the pot and not trying to hijack your thread, but I have seen a good bit of talk about IC (and most of it pretty respectful from what I can see) and I just wanted to say that I do agree that if we win Friday night, we will have a really good shot at 9-1. St.C. will be an extremely tough test, but we are more physical than they are and the only way we are going to beat them is ball control and physical play. We need to do what Linsly did to us, keep knocking them down.

Big Red can't smell Mooney this year.
Big Red will host this year but Mooney owns the region.
    Look out for Marlington!
