Steubenville Big Red
-
FairwoodKingI was at that game. The refs initially made a bad call but they corrected it. According to the rules of football, Big Red should have won that game and we did. It's what happened after the game that was downright ridiculous. The Wintersville coach took a film of the game to Columbus to try to get the OHSAA officials to overturn the verdict. In so many words, they told him to go to hell. Then the two schools got on each other's case and refused to play each other in any sport for twenty years.
-
ManO'WarThat's the head refs job though, he can overturn any call that he sees his crew make wrong.
They did the right thing...they huddled, determined the right call, then made it.
That type of officiating should happen more often. -
Thinthickbigred
They didnt huddle Reno came running onto the field after the press box told him it was a bad call .All of us in that endzone were in disbelief when they said good two points .. It was so blatent . They then changed the call . Sorry MOW .. I mean they should have made the correct call to begin with which was a penalty for illegal forward pitch . It was no fumble .but i think you cant make two wrongs right ..ManO'War;887235 wrote:That's the head refs job though, he can overturn any call that he sees his crew make wrong.

ThinthickbigredI can see the Wintersville peoples point of view and I can see the Big Red 's peoples point of view .. I am trying to be perfectly fair about this .. It was a choke by the refs nothing more .. They compounded the issue by changing the call .. it ruined the series between the Red and Wintersville .. Nobody cheated it was just two bad desecions .. They should have just stuck with the original terrible call and then we Big Red people would still be talking about how we got robbed ....IMO the ends just didnt justify the means . It ended up being too costly for both schools .. Niether school is to blame .. The kid tried to cheat when he pitched the ball illegally ... I may have done the same thing .. Its history ...

I Am Ahab
well, I may be an ass but your post is full of glaring inaccura Ies. Where do I say indont live in the area? I said I'm not from Big Red but I work in Steuby/ wintersville often. Where do I degrade local schools? I've not mention any but two schools, SHS n IC. and I e praised IC talent and fan support/pride, and ability to beat SHS in every sport but football.Darkon;887011 wrote:I Am Ahab
What a joke you are!!!!!
I read this site almost every day!
You have claimed over and over that you are not a Bid Red fan but in 95% of your posts are degrating locals or promoting Big Red.
Then you say you don't even live in the area.
What is it??
What an ASS!!
I've degraded ICs coaching staff for their inability to do anything win the talent they possess. Ive also degraded Sam for trying to bash an entire school/city bc their fb team whips the ass of his own. Nice try though Darkon. So tell some more fish stories and GTFO, son. If you want to bash me for some BS I've never said, words that you put in my mouth come up with some quotes from posts where I've bashed areas school(S), or anything about IC excluding their wasteful coaching staff or Sam's bonehead act. You can't so take your fail somewhere else. -

I disagree that an official's call is what brought the series to an end. I was a ballboy for Big Red and was on the field the year that the post-game brawl broke out (I believe it was 1986) and I have always felt that it was that particular moment marked and led to the true ending of the series.Thinthickbigred;887353 wrote:I can see the Wintersville peoples point of view and I can see the Big Red 's peoples point of view .. Great rivalries can be fantastic for communities, but when things reach the level of bitterness that I saw pour out of the players and the fans in the mid-80s, it starts to become a bit unhealthy.
I mean, look at this message board. We haven't played a competitive game against one another in 25 years, but the animosity over those games is still here and palpable. And, there isn't anything 'friendly' about it.
I was sad to see our games against Central come to an end. Although there was a huge amount of bitterness on both sides and it manifested itself occasionally -- through both players and fans -- things never got as out-of-control as things were with Big Red-Wintersville in the 1980s.
That thing literally had to end before people started hurting one another. -
passwordI was told that Central played Wintersville for years, so why did it end against Creek?

ManO'WarCreek couldn't beat Central and gave up.

ts1227OK children,
If you're going to talk about Big Red football, do it here.
If you're going to continue this IC/BR crap, start a thread in the basement and flame each other all you want.
I don't care which side started it, so save me those responses. Just keep it on track, and keep the bickering over in the basement, or I'll just move this whole thread there and/or start with the troll points on the IC posters (which will result in people not being allowed to post anywhere but the basement) Same will go for any BR posters stirring crap on the IC thread. -

ManO'Warts1227,

FairwoodKingNobody seems to be concerned about Big Red's computer points except me. After two weeks, our opponents combined have only two wins. This is in comparison to 2005 when only one team Big Red played had a losing record and Big Red racked up the third highest point total of any of the 700+ teams in the state. Or 1984 when Big Red played a mediocre schedule but the teams we beat went out and beat other teams.
It was just a year or two ago when New Philadelphia went 9-1 and failed to make the playoffs. The same thing could happen to us this year. I just hope our opponents wake up and start beating someone. -

Stop with drinking all the coffee. Don't worry about the points. We've been here before in seasons past with the harbins. New Phily's scheduling is nothing like ours. You can't compare the two. -
Thinthickbigred
Fairwood everybody makes the playoffs these days we will not only make it we will get a home game no problem BTW allmost everybody on the 84 slate had winning seasons i dont get that one those years only the top two teams made it and they had one less division .. How can you say we played a mediocre schedule? thats crazyFairwoodKing;887813 wrote:Nobody seems to be concerned about Big Red's computer points except me. FairwoodKingIn 1984 we played Youngstown Rayen, East Liverpool, Columbus Marion Franklin, Dover, Toledo Devilbiss, Cambridge, Wintersville, Bellaire, Youngstown East, and Steubenville Central. Show me one powerhouse in that group. These were just average teams that managed to win a few games. In fact it all came down to us pulling off a miracle with about 44 seconds to go to beat Central. I know because I was at the game.
If we go 8-2 again this year and lose to Ursuline and Massillon, we may not even make the playoffs. Then what will everyone say? -

Rayen was good ,Dover was good ,Wintersville was good , Youngstown East was good, Central was good , a few others were average to good like Bellaire and Cambridge, Devilbis was decent , You look at things in an overall historical perspective not that particular year ... Central was good enough to win state if they had expanded playoffs like they do now ... So was Wintersville .. Y,East only had 1 loss when we played them ... 6 or 7 teams would have made playoffs under todays format .. you shortchange us Fairwood .. We would have beaten Massillon , McKinley ,Warren Niles and Alliance that year -

It took a string of fourth-down completions to beat Central. If we had lost to them, we never would have made the playoffs. ManO'WarCentral lost to Ytown East, Wintersville, and Big Red that year, so they were a pretty good team that year, considering they played pretty much the same schedule as we did. They had 5 shutouts and only gave up 65 points all year.
Wintersville I believe went 8-2 and could have easily beat us. If they would have made the playoffs they could have went far.
Dover was pretty good that year...they might have had one or two losses.
Rayen was solid, and you seen what they did the next year to Big Red.
We were in a region with both Ursuline and Mooney, and still managed to make the top two with our schedule, so I would consider it pretty solid, since Mooney, playing in the Steel Valley Conference, couldn't beat us out. -

Yes Fairwood . our team succeaded where all your 60's teams and others failed so many times winning the very close games .. Massillon .. Yep we got lucky for sure a couple of times ... So did the 05 and 06 team's... Luck is when preperation meets opportunity ... We brought home the hardware thats all I can say ..Thinthickbigred;888064 wrote:
