Any upsets this week from Region 14?

otsego lost to fostoria. was looking for them to be 4-1 going up against 5-0 genoa but that loss will really take the wind our your sails. elyria catholic now has 3 losses and their schedule isn't getting any easier. this week og has undefeated wapak, ontario has wynford in the battle of the unbeatens and kenton has another tough one against 4-1 elida. should be interesting.

I'm surprised to see nobody giving the Colts of Clear Fork any chance of making the playoffs this year. They did lose a lot of talented players in last years senior class, but with their schedule being primarily D 2 teams they could go 7-3 possibly even 6-4 and make the playoffs.

A 6 & 4 record in this region this year will not get you in.:o

As far as I know he are the top 10 in no particular order:
    1) Hartley 5-0
    2) Kenton 5-0
    3) Genoa 5-0
    4) Eastwood 5-0 (Eastwood plays Genoa week 10 one team ends with a loss dah)
    5) Ontario 5-0 (They play a very tough Wynford team this week)
    6) Ottawa-Glandorf 4-1 (They lost to Kenton & have a couple more tough games coming up)
    7) Huron 4-1 ( Only loss to Clyde & have a big game against Oak Harbor in a couple weeks)
    8) North Union 4-1 (May have a tough time with 2nd level points)
    9) Oak Harbor 3-2 (They need to win out and beat Huron & Clyde)
    10) Galion 4-1 (Need to win out & beat Ontario & Wynford)
    11) Clearfork 3-2 (Need to win out Period)
    12) Lima Bath 3-2
All the 3-2 teams must win out and hope for some second level points.

A 6-4 team most likely wont make it, but it looks like a 7-3 team (possibly Oak Harbor) will get in. OHSAA just released computer rankings today. Top 10 looks like this:

    1. Kenton
    2. Eastwood
    3. Genoa
    4. Bishop Hartley
    5. Huron
    6. Clear Fork
    7. Oak Harbor
    8. Ottawa Glandorf
    9. North Union
    10. Ontario

I think many of you may need to take a closer look at the schedule of Clear Fork. If they go 7-3, I'd be willing to guarantee that they are in and at 6-4 are a long shot and would need a little help, but could very well make it. They play 7 D2 schools, 2 D3, and 1 D4 (Orrville), how many other D4 schools in region 14 have that tough of a division schedule. They are only 3-2 right now and are in 6th place in the computer points while Ontario is 5-0 clear back in 10th. If Ontario doesn't break Wynfords regualr season winning streak this week, they could be lucky to even get in at 9-1. Saying all of this, I don't think it really matters to much once the playoffs start, b/c I feel that it will come down to those top 4 teams in the points right now.

Kid Rock is way off base saying Clear Fork needs to win out period to get in. Clear Fork would definetly be in with a 7-3 record and would prolly fall in a 4 or 5 seed at that point. I think a 6-4 record would secure a 7 or 8 seed provided we beat 2 of the 3 Division 2 schools remaining on the schedule. Four of the remaining five games are at home for Clear Fork in this order.

    9/30 Home vs. Wooster D2
    10/7 Home vs. Madison D2
    10/14 Away @ Ashland D2
    10/21 Home vs. Orrville D4
10/28 Home vs. West Holmes D3

The NBC has only two teams. Eastwood and Genoa. No one is even coming close to beating these two. It is safe to say The Comets and the Eagles going 9-0 in that game. Standing room only.

Looking at the teams in this region...this has to be the toughest region in the division. Just look at the top 4 teams. WOW!!!

Looking at it again, you are right Clearfork can get in at 6-4 and a 7 -3 record they could get a 5th seed. Ontario needs to finish at least 9 - 1 to get in. There is a big difference in the schedules of those schools. Clearfork plays much larger schools for the most part. The top four in this region are set. Kenton, Genoa, Hartley, & Eastwood. Still got to go out and bring back those wins.

Just out of curiousity I looked at all 4 regions and found that the top 8 teams in 13, 14, and 15 all total out to 34-6 overall records, and 16 is 32-8, so it appears all the regions are very tough on the top 8 teams.

Week 10 is looking more and more interesting with each passing week. I don't know how much of a shake-up could happen with losses in the top 3, but projections are looking like a 9-0 Kenton vs. a 9-0 Wapakoneta and 9-0 Genoa Area vs. 9-0 Pemberville Eastwood for the final game of the regular season. For sure one of the top 3 in this region loses and with Wapak being D2 I could see them giving Kenton all they can handle so the potential is there for 2 of the top 3 to lose. It's gonna be interesting regardless.

Kenton, Eastwood, Genoa look to have locks on 3 of the top 4 spots. If Hartley can take care of some business they will have the other. To me seems like Kenton, Eastwood, Genoa, Hartley, North Union, Huron and OG are looking to have 7 of the 8 spots. The finally spot is anyone's best guess.
  • KidRock
I'm not sure Ontario can secure the 8th spot even at 9 -1? They play Galion in week 10 and Galion should be 7-2 going in to that game. (Assuming they loose to Wynford) Should be a big week 10 for alot of the teams out there in this region.

It looks like Genoa and Eastwood will play eachother in weeks 10 and 12 unless Kenton loses giving the winner of Week 10 the 1 seed

Lol, or if either Eastwood or Genoa loses in week 11.

well yea... that could happen too

Well now that the playoffs have been established looks like this region shook out like most have thought. The only team to sneak in there at #8 was Wellington. Way to go Dukes! There should be some interesting match-ups the first week in this region.

    #1 Kenton Vs #8 Wellington
    #2 Eastwood Vs #7 Ottawa-Glandorf
#3 Hartley Vs #6 North Union
    #4 Genoa Vs #5 Huron

Should be some good games in this region this week. Could there be a few upsets? Kenton is still the team to beat. The regional final potentially could be a huge match-up. Kenton Vs Hartley?
    Eastwood goes 10 -0 and draws Ottawa-Glandorf.

I still don't understand how Kenton is THE team to beat. Don't take this the wrong way, Kenton has a fantastic program. They won state championships. Last year they were a team that was in the state championship talk as well as this year and Maty Mauk has been spectacular. But I'd have to say Hartley is still the team to beat. They are the defending state champs and have not lost yet... I am not saying that Kenton, or any other team for that matter, can't beat Hartley but I think they are the team to beat until someone does beat them no matter who it is.
  • KidRock
Good point, Hartley is defending their crown, anyway you slice it there will be some good match ups in this region. How the heck did the OHHSAA decide to stick Hartley in Region 14 anyway? There could have been some long road trips in round 1 in the playoffs for some teams in this region.
  • Rotinaj
Wheres all the talk??? Gonna try and go 2 either the Eastwood or Genoa game. Anyone know which should be better?

I would go to the Eastwood game if I could, I think Ottawa Glandorf will definitely challenge them more than Huron will challenge Genoa

And.....How does a cold, rainy, windy game effect Kenton's Offense? There is no question that this time of year the elements favor a running team. Is Kenton that much head and shoulders over everyone else that they would still be favored ? If I'm a Kenton Fan, I'm praying for ideal weather.

It's never stopped them in the past. How will it affect this year? I don't know. However, I do know that they were smooth sailing regardless of weather most years. Yea, it may be more difficult, but not enough to make a huge difference.
