I don't see what you mean. I was stating the obvious in that the only reason that this thread was growing was because all of the Orrville posters were on it. There are really only 3 Genoa posters on this website.

Kenton can be beat. Trust me. My Alter Knights did it the last time Kenton played.

Hey, it was all a ton of fun I think you would agree. I will miss it.

Where's all the Genoa and Eastwood posters ? Huron and Oak Harbor look to make some noise in this region from the SBC.
  • birddog23
Eastwood fan here...just nothing to talk about. Although I am hearing Genoa is losing some kids from their program...
  • Rocketsfan
    Heard that as well Birddog.

What would be the reasoning for that??? Not many programs can match the recent success of the Genoa Comets. At least the past 3 seasons that I know about. Trouble in paradise? It is a shame if it is true.

    Their moving to Orrville!

"If you can't beat em, join em"!
  • Rocketsfan
They're probably just scared of the resurgent Oak Harbor Rockets. I'm certain of it.

If I had to guess it would be that many of them have played nearly 3 years of football in 2 seasons and they got burnt out? Hard to say with kids nowadays though....maybe their fingers hurt from texting.
As for the region...if Genoa loses in week 2 I don't think they make the playoffs. OH could win it's way back in with their schedule if they were to lose but if Genoa loses...they're out. This region has wayyyyy too much at the top to sneak in with the schedule they have should they slip up.
If people thought they had to run the table last year well then this year IMO it's even more imperative to get into the top 8.

    .

You ARE kidding, right? Those extra games and extra seasons is what puts ya on top!!! That is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard!!!!

I don't doubt the validity of this, I do doubt the signifigance........What am I supposed to believe, their tired of successful seasons??
  • bwcomet89
Depends what kids are leaving the program. Although I haven't heard of anyone leaving.
  • Classyposter58
Eh it's no one significant or I would of heard of it by now, I imagine it's just a bunch of freshman who didn't know what they're getting into
  • Rocketsfan
^^^^ No one significant ? I thought the Comets were like a tight knit family where everyone is vital to the team's success. Apparently this is not the case. Remember that " bunch of freshmen " is Genoa's future.
  • ridernation
don't the freshman play half the game anyway just to keep games interesting.
  • bwcomet89
Half the freshmen are gone by time they are seniors, it doesn't matter what school you're from. Talked to a Genoa player today and if there were big names jumping ship he would have mentioned it.

Hey I just heard some kids from Oak Harbor aren't playing this year because they don't like the coach. Go run with that.
  • Rocketsfan
^^^ I'm sure you may have heard that BW and that is the excuse some kids use. Truth be told, these are lazy kids with even lazier parents who let them waste away in front of the xbox all day instead of doing something worth while.

It may be one of the most ludicrous things you have ever heard but kids aren't wired the way you or I are. They are kids. From what I heard last year that some of the boys were ready for the season to be over even though they were still in the playoffs. They don't all play the game because they love it. Many play to make parents or relatives happy.
Again...they are kids. None of us adults can make them want it the way we think they should. For many of them they don't realize their last game of football their senior year is the last time they strap on a helmet and play football. Some don't realize the importance of high school football until it's gone. I'm a prime example of that myself.
I'm sorry you have a hard time understanding that kids can get burnt out. When you aren't the one putting in all the time to prepare you don't realize the sacrifice. I know the Genoa kids put in more hours than I could even fathom compared to when I played. I admire the young men that stick with it but on the other hand I don't blame the ones that walk away one bit either. If they are playing for the wrong reasons it will surely take it's toll quicker than if they play because they love the game. If you played football in high school you know there were kids on your team that didn't love the game. All teams have those kids.
I'm sure Genoa now is no different even with the success they've had.
I had heard @ 15 kids weren't playing this year. Whether it's true or not I don't know....that's the number I heard. Are they key players? Maybe a few...but that remains to be seen.
I refuse to sit back and judge them for walking away from the game. Someday maybe they will realize the error in their ways. Maybe not. But for now...they are just kids, and part of being a kid is making mistakes to learn from.
Regardless of who plays and who doesn't I'm sure the coaching staff will have them ready to play come Friday nights.

I agree, many of those Freshman and Sophomores have been playing their normal Saturday games on JV, and then suiting up to play the second half of most varsity games on Friday night. 6 Qtrs in a week = .....when they are Juniors, they have already played a full career # of HS FB games.
