TCBSmithville administration will get what they deserve for this. There's a proper way to treat people. Especially ones who've dedicated their lives to a single school. I'd venture Shrock was willing to retire if the subject had come up versus getting read the riot act first. All it would've taken was a little class. Who does this kind of crap? My kid would be out of that school so fast their heads would spin.

Dr. KnOiTaLLDidn't one of their more experienced coaches go to Wadsworth this year? With the type of year Wadsworth had, maybe he will return? This whole situation is insane. Does anyone have anymore info?

TCBTake all the worst rumors you hear about this firing (which is what it was) and accept them as true..because they are. Somebody needs to ask the million dollar question - who prepared the letter of resignation that Shrock signed?
After 35 years he was determined to be a bad influence on the boys. That's what this boils down to. Some former players need to show up at the next school board meeting and have their say. I'd be ashamed if they didn't. -
iced earthBut if a coach won't gracefully step away, when it's obvious it's the right time, what is the school supposed to do? Let him stay til he's 90 like Paterno?

Mr. RussellDid Paterno win a big 10 championship recently?
Beat the national champions? -

No....but the problem with the Shrock situation is it creates uncertainty through the whole program from year to year. If he wanted to keep coaching he should have commited for a set time frame. Not year to year. Every season can't start with the question is this Shrocks last year?Mr. Russell;1017221 wrote:Did Paterno win a big 10 championship recently?

You give him the respect that he has earned, you let him decide when he wants to go and you respect his choice, I could see if he was 0-20 for the last 2 seasons, but he was Tri Champs and in the playoffs with a team that i dont think was supposed to finish any higher then 4th this year.iced earth;1017207 wrote:But if a coach won't gracefully step away, when it's obvious it's the right time, what is the school supposed to do? As many years that he has been there, does anybody know if any of the staff stuck up for him???....Where was the AD? did he aprove of this or does he even get a say in the matter????
I am a true Norwayne fan and I myself have hated Coach Schrock for many years,(only because he kicked the living crap out of us for so many years) i do not know him off the football field, but what Smithville has done to him is wrong period!!!!!!!!!!...I hope that all the Smithville Alumni go to the next board mtg and ask for somebodies head!!!....
Just a question, but did any new school board members get elected this past November that had a beef with him???..... -

TCBThis had more to do with the fact the school board and principal just didn't like the guy than the fact he retired from teaching. I heard rumors that the principal sat in the locker room at halftime to make sure the coach didn't use any bad language that might offend "the children". What a complete joke. I never liked Smithville much, but I respected them. Now I don't even do that. If you're gonna fire him, then fire him. After 35 years you don't humiliate the guy to his face and then force him to sign a resignation letter. Pathetic. I feel for the AD because I think he got caught in a power play staged by the principal and a few female board members.

Mr. RussellUnfortunately, I don't think this is even close to how it is going to get. This is calm. And nothing has been exaggerated.

THE4RINGZI hope there is a county wide uproar exposing the truth

LongsnapperAs a Smithville grad and football alum I can say Coach Schrock had and continues to have a positive influence on my life. As a teacher and coach the lessons he taught have helped form me, as well as countless others, into well rounded decent family men. No, not every moment during my 4 yrs with him were all grins and roses. As far as a football program goes, whose is? Were there times he spoke to us as men and not boys? Yes, but it was under a given context for emphasis and he did NOT allow us to speak that way. It seems to me that part of the problem here is some of the players/ their parents not having the understanding of this. Another part of the issue is "non-Smithie" people moving in and deciding to change our communities (Smithville and Marshallville) from what we were into something different. In the past few years major changes have been met with resistance from some "Smithie" lifers. I have no doubt that this firing can be fixed but the GLS administration owes the "Smithies" (and the rest of WCAL football fans) a truthful explination and answers. I feel the ending of the Schrock era was handled poorly and without tact, all things considered. That said, after we get our answers, we need to realize the sun will rise on another Smithville football season and those young men will need and deserve our support. Coach Schrock would want us to realize it is about the kids. God Bless!

jacoAs an alum, Longsnapper, I think you're entitled to some answers. Why did this bunch feel the need to take a giant crap on one of the guys who helped shape you into the man you are? I refuse to believe this couldn't have been fixed by simply sitting down and saying "Keith, we need to think about the future of the program. What are your plans?". Not so hard to show the man that little bit of respect. My guess is this was his last year anyway. I think he was going to resign if they hadn't jumped the gun. It's not hard to figure out who the culprits were in this little stunt. You just don't tell a guy whose been there 35 years that he doesn't care about his kids, then slide a resignation letter in front of him. Sick and cruel. The other shoe hasn't even dropped on the other lifers at Smithville. And guess what, Smithies? Your next coach is going to be picked by these same dirtbags.

Do I expect him to leave NW - no. But I also don't think its out of the question for the reasons i mentioned above. If the smithes had to choose between the 2, it would pretty hard for sure. -

Which March because this is an annual conversation? -
Go FalconsFrom what I see in the Green Local teachers contract that I found on line, supplemental contracts are automatically non-renewed each year without board action. This means coaches are automatically "fired" each year. This means they never would need to fire him or for him to resign , they could just say you will not be rehired.

1486wdi have too say iced earth has some good points here. No one should get to say when they will go - in anything. You end up making someone bigger than the school/program and that's not right either. At the same time, with someone like shrock - this needs to be done respectfully. He has earned that and deserves that. It doesn't sound like that's the case.
