I guess before I vote for coach of the year my question would be " why was Smithville 2 - 8 last year?" They have pretty much the same team that they had a year ago. Dont play the injury card. Every team had injuries last year. Norwaynes top 2 recievers this year were both injured most of last year. Why was Schrocks team 2 - 8 a year ago? Why would a coach of that caliber with all of that discipline and team work fail so miserably a year ago?

    It's okay Ringz, I believe you (cough,cough)

I know its been rough lately,
with the Wooster defeat, the Triway season, the BW3 rakefight defeat at the hands of RRN and now I'm hearing Lobster Laura renamed you 4INCHES.

    I think you've had enough, and I'll give you a pass.

Coach of the Year? Schrock seems like a good candidate, the Smithies were title longshots and managed to grab a piece. Plus, if this is possibly his swan song, then it's a fitting tribute.
The other 2 candidates would have to be Harbour & Williams.
Harbour also has a shot and Williams won last year I think, not totally sure.
If I had a vote, I'd go with Schrock.

The award is Coach of the Year...not Coach of last year

Well, I can't tell you for certain, but I remember them turning the ball over a TON last year. I heard something like 30+ fumbles. Also, wasn't the Bates kid out most of the year? Regardless of injuries, you aren't going to win many games with 3+ turnovers per contest... I think anyone can agree with that.

I also suppose the return of Besancon can't hurt. I mean, he made solid progress in two struggling programs in his time as a head coach. Who knows the reason though. Not really for any of us to say unless you were there.

I am hoping that Smithville can pull out a victory over Wynford with their usual straight up smash mouth style of playing. Coming from New Washington Buckeye Central, we hate Wynford and root for anyone other so go Smithies!!!!

What can yo tell us about Wynford?

    Found this on Huddle...

Wynford is a pretty balanced offense. They're QB (Zach Chatlain) is 6'3" and about 210. He runs very well and passes decently.
    1400 yards passing
    800 yards rushing
These are close guesses over and under

They have one big reciever (Seth Rall) who's about the same side as the QB (Chatlain) and do not have season stats on him, but very phyrsical reciever

The TE is around 6'5" 205 pounds with decent hands and moves really well (Jered Butler)

The offensive line isn't huge, but they block well for the most part. It's been Wynford's MO since they've started this winning streak that they have a small offensive line that blocks hard and till the whistle blows.

The defense this year is what they live by this year. They have 2 DT that average 300 pounds and really can clog up the middle (Logan Wilburn, David Burns). Their Defensive ends both are 6'4" and 6'5" and really can get around the tackles and to the outside. (John Miller, Butler)

2, 3 year starters at LB (Rall, Luke Miller 5'9" 195) and the other kid who is a junior and the leading tackler on the team and started all last season (Garrett Shutler 5'10" 180)

The secondary has played well at times, but really hasn't faced a big time passing offense this year. (Nate Brown 5'10" 170, Adam Hartz 5'8" 165, Gage Roe 5'8" 165, Chatlain)

The defense has been good and judging by both teams schedule they seem very similiar for the most part besides the Smithville loss to Hillsdale. With this all said I think the game will be close, but I will say this it is tough to stop 2, 1,000 yard rushers, but I feel like if the Royals can do that then they should be fine. They're sound on offense, but the team really goes on how the defense performs. They have not allowed a RB go for over a 100 yards all season long and they've faced some good ones.

Should be a good game however... the #1 seed hasn't been kind to Wynford in the past. (2002 loss Delphos Jefferson 17-14, 2010 loss Dalton 34-21)

Good luck to both teams it should be a good ole HS football playoff game come Friday night!

I'll be making the trip to Bucyrus to see the latest episode of the Godfather!

    Go Smithies!

Other than an occasional play off meeting I would guess Buckeye Central doesn't play Wynford very often.

I was assuming there was a reason he said they hate Wynford. Figured he might know something.

That would be a heckuva commute for a regular season game. 2-1/2 hours one way.

Nevermind my posts about Buckeye Central. I was thinking of Buckeye Trail High School in Old Washington.

Carry on despite my Senior Moment.
