Not sure where Harbour is from though.
You made it clear. It's just late and I misread while finishing up some school work.

I'm not sure about Harbour, but I think it'd be awesome if he stayed and 20 years from now all the coaches you mentioned are still at their schools.

But if that did happen I could see why some Rittman people would be upset with him.

How you view the man depends on what side of the line you're on.

You seem to be familiar with Rittman football. What's the story on Mike Baker? I know he used to be HC at Rittman and is now at Smithville. How did that come to be?
Not gonna lie, Baker was a bit before my time. But 3 former Rittman head coaches now coach at Smithville (assuming the legend Teague is still on the staff)

    Edit:

This is the article from when Harbour got hired at Norwayne:

That's interesting that he beat out a COW assistant. I think that's a smart move by Norwayne because if you hire someone who has been a college coach you can assume he'd want to return to college coaching someday.

I'm not familiar with teaching contracts but I think teachers may be obligated to stay at a school until their contract is up or they resign and it's accepted by the school board. I could be wrong on that though. But by giving him a teaching position they've seemed to secure him for some time.

It is a sad but true fact, that a lot of coaches use the small schools as a stepping stone to bigger things! Smithville is lucky to have Schrock for all these years! If your an old fart like me, you can remember that Schrock had a very rough start at Smithville! only won 2 games in his first 2 years! It took 4 years to get the program turned around. Seems like the problem at Chippewa and Rittman, is the fact that coaches dont stay there very long! In this day and age, people want a quick fix, in all honesty it takes a little time to turn a program into winners.

The College of Wooster coach who didnt get the job is on Norwaynes staff right now. He runs the defense. He was only at COW 1 year i believe. He coached for Maltarich, left for a year and came back to coach under Harbour. He teaches at Norwayne

He is a stark county guy - I would not be surprised if he jumped back there if the oppurtunity arose ala maltarich (or the situation at Dalton last year). You have a lot better shot at keeping someone if they are local. At the same time, when you hire a coach, you need to go after the best available, whether they are local or not. But hey - why worry about it now - good luck the rest of the season!
OQB;951507 wrote:To an extent......Look at the great coaches and you will see very limited years when they are "down". Great coaches always have their teams ready to play and are successful even when the talent isn't there. We'll see if he has what it takes and learns from these games that are under his belt now.

Question is, do you think he is at Norwayne to stay or if a bigger school wants him do you see him leaving like Maltarich?

FYI: I dug a little and it seems that Smithville and Wynford have met one previous time. You have to go back all the way to 1994. Smithville beat Wynford 28-21 in the first round of the playoffs that year. Smithville lost in the second round to Carey 21-0.

i believe the coach you speak of is Dalton grad Adam Indorf. After a great bulldog career, I believe he was all american for Mount Union. Great guy to have on your staff.

The coach is Indorf. He knows the game. His people skills may be lacking a bit. From a teaching standpoint I hear he is not well liked.....especially by the females.

Harbour I believe is from out west. I think around the Toledo area. My understanding is Harbour was not anywhere near the first choice at Norwayne ( the 5th choice is the rumor). The system couldnt find the money to pay the more experienced coaches that applied for the job so they settled. That made a lot of people very unhappy. If I'm not mistaken I think Harbour is still in his 20's.

He was an assistant and both coordinators were assistants. I dont believe any of them were even varsity coordinators when they came to Norwayne. Out side of 1 coach who has been on Norwaynes staff since Maltarich started I would bet there isnt a coach over 30 - 31 years old on staff

Most people would consider the offensive coordinator position at Smithville a more desirable position than the head coaching job at New London. What he did at New London was amazing. But Smithvilles head coaching job is going to be his whether he left or not.
I may be wrong here, but I was informed by a brother of Coach B that Brent is actually running the defense this season, not the offense!

Hmmm..... I haven't heard that but it could be. I know I've heard him calling offensive plays into the headset a few times this year and screaming into the headset while the offense has the ball. I know Mike Baker is up in the booth with him.

I didn't get to watch Smithville while Coach B was at New London and Rittman (their down years) but this years play calling looks like when he was calling plays when I was playing (1999-2002)......line it up and shove it down their throat.

he left rittman for a number of reasons that people do not know of. I would of liked besancon to stay in rittman but i do not blame him for leaving.

I think Wallace will get it. Just my gut feeling. But there are a number of players worthy from a number of teams.
  • Mr. Russell
Baker and Schrock call the O and Besancon and Saris call the D.
  • oldsmithie
I think the MVP will, and should, go to Wallace from Norwayne.
  • THE4RINGZ
My vote would be for Wallace.
  • riders1
    Smithville votes are in ............. #22 :)
  • 1_beast
    Wallace is the MVP...I think
  • OQB
Wallace is the MVP....can't dispute the numbers he has put up.

What I'm more interested in is who gets the Daily Record POY? Will these playoff games factor in to the deciding factor?

I think, but not sure, Harbour is from Upper Sandusky.....and as far as age....i believe he is in his mid to early 30's.....the rest of the staff i would agree that they are under 30
  • footballnut
Without question, Wallace is the MVP

I read in a Daily Record article he was 27 when he took the job. So that'd put him around 29 or 30. Although people have point out some inaccuracies in the article.
