But I'll stop now. -
Dr. Ray StantzDover haters crack me up. Big Red fan tries to rip on Tornado fan b/c Dover canceled 2nd year of contract with Mass. when Big Red canceled our home and home contract after we came back to beat you in the 2nd half in the late 90s.
Dover football is the farthest thing from a joke you can find, look up all time wins for Ohio high school football. Dover is right up there with Steubenville and Massillon, and we never had the huge population boon those two programs had for the majority of the past century. The future shines bright for Dover, while Massillon fan enjoys his pre vietnam nostalgic unearned titles and Steubenville fan clings to the only reason you could ever use to try and justify raising your family in that community. -
GoChiefs
Not knocking Dover at all...but yes..from what I see..Dover is 8th on the all times wins list..but they are still 100 wins away from Steubenville and another 200 wins away from Massillon. Definitely something to be proud of regardless.Dr. Ray Stantz wrote: look up all time wins for Ohio high school football. Dover is right up there with Steubenville and Massillon, -
Dr. Ray StantzThe question was, "Is Dover football a joke?" The answer is no.
I have us at 7th, my or your list isn't up to date, I think we surpassed Bellaire this year. Either way about 810 of the 820 member high schools in the OHSAA haven't had Dover's success on the field. The only joke here is the question itself. -
believerThis thread is killing me! One arrogant set of high school football fans slinging mud at another!
Dover dominates the weak ECOL, Steubenville dominates Dover, Mooney dominates Steubenville, Louisville is better than Northwest, Massillon is better than everyone ...except for the fact they've never won a state title under the current playoff system, blah, blah, blah.
Apples to oranges folks...get over yourselves.
Frankly you're all very good football programs in your own right. And this is coming from a Coshocton fans who finally, FINALLY witnessed Coshocton make it to the state level. Not bad for another weak ECOL team!
And the beat goes on...... -

I seldom post here, but I like reading some of the posts. That said, our party of four had an experience at the Dover - Steubenville playoff game that I'd like to share. I am a Big Red booster and have missed only 1 game since 1962; so, I have been to many stadiums.Dr. Ray Stantz wrote: The question was, "Is Dover football a joke?" The answer is no.

On the way out of the stadium, we passed the band section. We must have received at LEAST 2 dozen well wishes for and compliments on Big Red from the cheerleaders, band members, Dover fans, and the band director himself. I have never expierienced anything like that before.
This is something Dover fans are probably used to, but it certainly was refreshing to see such class. I have to say that when leaving our stadium, we have to pass through groups of kids interested only in mass chaos.
On another point, you mentioned the fact that Big Red canceled the series in the ninties; that is not accurate. We were shown the memo from Dover's A.D.. The problem was with a scheduling conflict; the third game never came about. It was never canceled because it was never scheduled. The boosters and the coaching staff really wanted that series.
I believe Shoney's restaurant still has the newspaper artilcle about Dover's Greatest Comeback Win in History. It was framed and hanging on the wall in the back seating area.
Dover: Great tradition with good people and good coaching. -
Strapping Young LadDr. Ray caught lying here???? Shocking!!!! Here we go with the bashing of towns from the "classy" pusheDoverians....The future is bright in Dover as the unemployed masses of the nation flock to: (ready for this???) DOVER, OHIO!!!!

Dr. Ray has the correct set of data.Strapping Young Lad wrote: Dr. Ray caught lying here???? Shocking!!!! Here we go with the bashing of towns from the "classy" pusheDoverians....The future is bright in Dover as the unemployed masses of the nation flock to: (ready for this???) DOVER, OHIO!!!!
That room in Shoney's is dedicated to Dover Football.
Our fans treat every team with class, they realize these are 15-18 year old kids representing our community. The only classless thing I have witnessed in a Dover game came this year when #7 failed to get up after being knocked down near the end of the first half in the Dover v Big Red regional final game. The week before twice a Northwest player was knocked down or out of the game and the whole stadium even the Dover side was quiet until the player got up. -
Strapping Young LadAwwww, are you still cryin out there, bases.....
Did your little guy get the wind knocked outta him? Maybe we should throw a pity party.... -
Dr. Ray StantzHahaha I'm not a liar, You lost to our 98 Dover team who's only losses were to state champ Orrville (14-13) and state runner up Chardon (20-14) and we had the whole team coming back, and low and behold you had a down year and backed out. Steubenville would never hide from Dover now, but you did in 1999, and that's a fact. We replaced you with Lake, who'd you replace us with?
-
september63Probably someone like Niagra Falls Intermediate School, NY.
-
ridgerunner88Everyone knows who Dover is, that's what happens when you make the playoffs nearly every year. Great program. Top 20 in D3 for sure.

Well, this guy up here seems to think that is inaccurate and had seen a memo from the Dover AD.....
Perhaps the AD just thought it was a conflict in sched, but was actually Big Red backing out....What does the AD know anyhow????
I don't think Big Red was having a down year in '99 though, as they lost a lead to eventual state champs Poland to be eliminated from the playoffs...Now that may be considered a down year in Stueby, but I'm not sure it's enough to have them hide from Dover.
I'm not surprised Dover would schedule that game in '98 as Big Red was really down in '98. Sounds like Dover to sched a big name program having a down year... But since the '99 team was back to form, perhaps it was Dover who insightfully backed out.
What was the score of the '98 game??? -
Strapping Young LadHaha, nevermind I found the score...you had a great comeback to win by 7 against Big Red in a down year...I know a 7 pt comeback victory would send me running for the hills, knowing my team has zero chance next year LOL...
Let me ask you, of all the teams that beat Big Red in '98, and by worse margins than Dover did, why did Reno flee only from Dover, who needed a late comeback to win by a whopping 7 pts?????
B/c you guys are full of it that's why... -
Strapping Young Lad'98 Chardon 28-10, '99 Big Red 41-7
DC Woody Wilson 31-22, Big Red 41-8
Zanesville 40-19, Zanesville 21-14
Boardman 21-20, Boardman 21-12
East Liverpool 37-21, Big Red 34-0
Yes, looks like Reno is a scaredy cat to me......
BTW, that state runner up Chardon team that beat you in '99...... -
Strapping Young LadOh I almost forgot.....ZZZZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! -

For someone who constantly refers to Dovers program as a joke, over rated, nothing to worry about, etc, etc, etc, you sure do spend a hell of alot of time checking on posts regarding them, and regurgitating your same old talking points time and time again. YOU are the epitome of what people refer to when the refer to "some stueby fans", and quite frankly, its really kind of sad.Strapping Young Lad wrote: Haha, nevermind I found the score...you had a great comeback to win by 7 against Big Red in a down year...I know a 7 pt comeback victory would send me running for the hills, knowing my team has zero chance next year LOL...

Strapping Young LadHaha, I just owned you on the only thing you had goin against Big Red....you morons bash Massillon then try to talk and jaw your crap about Big Red being scared to play you and having to back out on the contract and I just SHUT YOU DOWN!!!!!!
Not surprised that the only thing you have to come back with is a personal attack on me, in true Dover fashion. Haha!!!!! -

The Chardon team that beat us in the playoffs was the '98 team that beat you 28-10. I can't tell you what the Chardon team in '99 was like. All I know was that the Dover team in '99 was good enough to beat Big Red. Would it have, I don't know, just like we don't know what happened with the contract between the two teams. I would imagine that Big Red didn't back out, but who knows what actually happened? -
Strapping Young LadI think we can draw some conclusions based on the fact that we have a poster who saw the memo from the Dover AD and Big Red was beaten far worse by 4 teams and beaten by another, but still played them all the next season....
Dover may have beaten Big Red the next year, but to state as fact that they backed out of the contract is just more crap from Dr. Ray w/ nothing to back it up....
Sorry Ray, I know you wanted so bad for everyone to think Big Red was sooooo scared of Mighty Dover, but alas, that doesn't seem to be the case.... -

You are going to call out Dr. Ray for posting something that has been debated on for awhile now, claiming it to be false (which I tend to agree with you) because some poster said they saw a letter from the AD? But then you post something that is blatantly false to try to make Dover look bad and when you get called out on it you just ignore it? -
zhon44622
Its here-say, provide a PDF of such a document and you have evidence, besides its 2009, the next season will be 2010 WTF does it matter?Strapping Young Lad wrote: I think we can draw some conclusions based on the fact that we have a poster who saw the memo from the Dover AD -
september63I dont know or really care what happened back in 1999. However, just because a Big Red poster says he saw a memo from the AD's office? C'mon now!!! That is BS!! I believe what I see, not what a Steuby fan "tells" me he saw. LOL I saw Santa Claus fly over my house last night. You going to believe that too?
