Dover Football

GoChiefsDon't pay attention to BBall..we played Louisville there last year in Week 12...we lost. LOL We also play Zanesville at Z'ville next season as well. But we've won a few games there already though.

sonofsamDover in my opinion is a "good-very good" football team. Unfortunately you have to be a "great" team to get a title. Dover will continue to post good season records and make play-off appearances, but until they can get over the hump of beating Steubenville on a year basis (hint hint... This is the game you guys need) they will not get into the championship game. Dover would have had trouble with Mooney, DeSales, and Poland just to name a few. In order to be the best, you have to start playing the best. I know Dover play in a league and it limits them to who they can schedule, but you need a team that will make you better. New Philly isn't that team, that a rivalry and is not a state championship test. Dover has the ability to get to the dance, they gotta schedule a powerhouse and beat them year in and year out to win a championship. They have potential...
P.S. I agree that Zanesville is a bust. They won't help. -

But Columbus Marion Franklin can?irishball25 wrote: Dover can not play with Louisville period!
Anyone can play anyone...even on their opponents home turf.
Example: Week "1" of the 2009 OHSAA Playoffs... -
irishball25Yes they did and could they were the better team that night.

september63Yes they did and could, they were the better team that night.

Strapping Young LadI don't know if the program is a joke, but their fans are....and i find this thread quite funny too.

Couldn't agree with you more there. As a Logan fan..the Chieftains experience the exact same thing..Our league is weak some years..but luckily we keep a pretty decent non league schedule..so that helps us. But unfortunately..those games are the first 3 weeks of the season..so then you have a bunch of games after that where there starters are sitting in the second half. That IMO does nothing to help us come playoff time. But we don't have the advantage that Dover has..we don't have a lot of 'great' programs that would be willing to play us..so it is what it is with the Chiefs. Not much they can do about it.sonofsam wrote: Dover in my opinion is a "good-very good" football team. Unfortunately you have to be a "great" team to get a title. WooballI love that fans of the Massillon Paper Tigers and Louisville Leopards are questioning Dover's legitimacy as a program.
- Why does a fan of the mighty Massillon Tigers even care about Dover? Are there some players on our team that you are hoping "open enroll" next year? You have never won a playoff championship. You are Notre Dame. And we beat you in everything else we play you in.
- And Louisville bashing us? Louisville is the biggest school in the NBC and dominates that league. They are a division II school in a DIII league. They got bounced in round #1 this year by the #8 seed at home. They have never won a state playoff championship. Yes, they have made it to the finals..... ONCE. Why do you want to play us? We are just another DIII team that couldn't possibly play with the Leps, although we did manage to beat DII Ashland who scratched out 2 W's in the DII playoffs this year. Lep fan, please stop acting like you are better than Dover. You are not. You do the exact same thing we do except in a different division. Both are very good programs, but neither are on the level that some posters make them out to be, yet.
Big Red fan, bash away. BTW, was the Mooney beat down as awful in person as it looked on tv? -
Strapping Young LadHaha!!! what's really funny is Dover boy starting the bashing on Massillon....Only a mouth from Dover could talk smack on Massillon after they got smoked in a year they thought they might be able to catch Massillon, then didn't show the next year....
So, keep living vicariously through Mooney cuz that's the only way you'll ever be outside of your region....

Absolutely we played Massillon in a year we thought we had a chance against them. We were wrong, and they smashed us. I don't think that game did much good for either team and Dover decided to go in a different direction. Does that make Dover look bad? Sure, but at least we took a shot at them and found out what we need to do to get better. I thought the same thing when we scheduled Avon Lake, but we competed the first year and managed to beat them at their place the 2nd year.Strapping Young Lad wrote: Haha!!! what's really funny is Dover boy starting the bashing on Massillon....Only a mouth from Dover could talk smack on Massillon after they got smoked in a year they thought they might be able to catch Massillon, then didn't show the next year....

All Dover can do is keep winning the games on their schedule and continue giving themselves a shot at getting to the next level.
Also, I was hoping Big Red would beat Mooney and was surprised by the beating Mooney laid on Big Red. It really was too bad, I was hoping I would get a chance to hear the banjo's play as the Big Red caravan made their way up to stark county. -
Bigred1995I never really understood the rational behind talking trash on at team by way of another team. Can you imagine Frank Bruno talking trash on Mike Tyson, by bringing up Holyfield?
As far as the question of this thread goes, no Dover football isn't a joke. They are a very talented team that does very well year in and year out. There are hundreds of teams that would love to have the success they have been having. -
GoChiefs
Probably b/c another Dover fan keeps bashing Massillon every chance he gets..so that's why the thread was started. I'm sure he could care less about Dover..but what comes around goes around.Wooball wrote:- Why does a fan of the mighty Massillon Tigers even care about Dover? -

Only in Dover, my friend....only in Dover.Bigred1995 wrote: I never really understood the rational behind talking trash on at team by way of another team.
They don't care about logic, so long as they can run their mouths.
Aren't you glad we don't have to compensate for are short-comings by bashing people's cities, unemployment rates, teams for losing to someone who isn't us, teams who blew our doors off and made us run the other way screaming (like Massillon did to 'em)....
Like he said, they tried to catch Massillon, got embarrased, then backed out making them look bad....Then they come back and bash that team!?!?!??!?! Hahaha.....crazy. -
bases_loadedI think you are confusing bashing the program with using a rational arguement that if its all about state championships won on the field...then Massillon has as much room to talk as Dover.
-
Strapping Young LadDude Massillion football is known all over the country for having an extremely successful and one of the most winningest football programs anywhere, ever....
Also, Massillon has 21 more state titles, whether YOU want to consider them or not....
Pair those #1 finishes w/ the all the wins the program has and you people are fooling yourselves if you think Massillon has no more room to talk than Dover...... -
GoChiefs
Sorry..not confusing anything..they are clearly just trying to bash the program..failing..but trying nonetheless.bases_loaded wrote: I think you are confusing bashing the program with using a rational arguement that if its all about state championships won on the field...then Massillon has as much room to talk as Dover. -
september63Failing? it wasnt my intention to have every post agree with me. There sure seem to be alot of posts that do though. representing many school districts too. This isnt just Dover ppl posting on this. It sure does seem to be a hot button topic for everyone!!

I did not bash Massillon or Louisville anymore than I did Dover. All 3 basically have the same amount of success during the playoff era. Win some games, but never the title. Am i saying Dover would beat these teams? No, we wouldn't beat Massillon, as was proven. Would we beat Louisville? Maybe. We'd be competitive, probably have similar results that Northwest has had against them. As bases_loaded said, I was just wondering why teams that have the same results in the playoffs as we do are questioning our program?
As far as Big Red goes. Without you guys, Ohio High School Football would cease to exist. I wasn't gloating that Mooney thrashed you. They would have beaten us worse had you managed to give that game away to us like you were attempting to in the 4th quarter. I hope we meet again next year so we can get another shot at the 'burb of the burgh' -
Strapping Young Ladhehe..Like I said before, if Dover didn't beat Big Red this year, it won't happen.....This was the year. Actually '06 was your best shot, b/c I think this year's dover squad was vastly overrated...
-
J-DoverI have to agree that we were way overrated this year as well. Our "D" was a little better then good, not great. Our "O" was ok not good or even close to great. I think we could have been better with players in different positions, but what do I know. SYL already told me I didn't know anything about football.
-
september63Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy...........Are you close to suggesting Coach Ifft played some kids in the wrong position? i would ask you, how many games you have won as a head coach? Do you, from the sidelines, consider yourself more football smart than our coach? Stop the monday morning quarterbacking. You are either on board, or you re not!!
-
ZalKathCOOL! Dover Fan Cat Fight!
-
september63Nah!! i guess thats his opinion. He is entitled to it. I just dont stab my team or coach in the back at the end of the year. I certainly wouldnt question a coaches decisions. Atleast not this coach.
-
d.woods50fan.I wish dover all the luck and hope that they make it past the regional final. Dover is not close to being a joke !!!
-
september63Thanks D.Woods.............Could you please go back to D IV, and take Mooney with you? Gives us a much better chance.
