2011 Steubenville Big Red schedule

  • ManO'War
The only one in the whole state with week 3 open is St Clairsville, but they don't want to play. Reno stated that they contacted over 30 schools for that date, but couldn't find anything, so I guess he had to go the Canadian route.

The rest of the schedule makes up for it though.

Fitch is hosting Hamilton St Mary in Week 3. Maybe Bishop Ryan and St Mary could play each other in the afternoon, and Fitch-Big Red get together for the Main Event that night.

Same issue with Creek week 2. The only school that would do at one-year contract at Creek was Linsly.

Bishop Ryan and St. Mary are already scheduled to play each other. I hardly think they would drive 400 miles for a rematch.

So what's the story about that possible Week 2 'rally' game? Did that whole event go under, or just Big Red didn't/couldn't participate. I know two years ago Big Red and Buchtel went to Wheeling instead of playing eachother, any chance that happens again before this thing is 'finalized'?
  • ManO'War
I guess there is always a chance, but Woodland Hills is searching for a week 1 game (our week 2), so it appears that any Rally event in Pittsburgh is off too.

I tried to contact the event organizer, Ken Halloy, all winter, but he wouldn't respond.....makes you wonder.

May I ask what happened to the KY team; what this an actual possibility or just smoke & mirrors? I actually like the possibility of playing that team.

Believe half of what you read and none of what you hear.

Ahh! You know what, when it was first posted, my first inclination was that it was a "joke" or a ploy to see how many people would still bash it! I guess my initial feelings were correct! :)

THURSDAY AUGUST 25 - VS MORGANTOWN, 6 PM
Like this game, Morgantown was a good team and got us a ton of points!

FRIDAY, SEPT. 2 - VS. AKRON BUCHTEL
Love this game, not sure how much they lost to graduation, but the last several years they have been on the rise; it could be an epic game!

FRIDAY, SEPT. 9 - VS. BISHOP RYAN (HAMILTON, ONTARIO)
Eh, I don't know anything about this team, but they're Canadian, so....

    FRIDAY, SEPT. 16 - @ BROOKE
Love this game! They will be looking for revenge for last year and they are in their house! The tension will be intense!

    FRIDAY SEPT. 23 - @ YOUNGSTOWN URSULINE
Love this game for the sheer fact that Big Red will be looking to repay Ursuline for beating us in our house! Not sure how much they lost, but they're always tough!

FRIDAY SEPT. 30 - VS. EAST LIVERPOOL
Like this game! East Liverpool is on the rise and could be considered a contender to win. The games leading to this game should tell us how competitive it'll be.

FRIDAY, OCT. 7 - VS. BALTIMORE MT. ST. JOSEPH'S (MD)
Eh, I'm actually growing tired of this game, but considering an up coming opponent, I think I like the position of this game :)

FRIDAY OCT. 14 - VS. BUFFALO ST. JOE'S (NY)
Eh, I'm actually growing tired of this game, but considering an up coming opponent, I think I like the position of this game :)

FRIDAY OCT. 21 - VS. MASSILLON
I love this game! Seeing what they had last year and knowing what they have coming back, it will be tough, but we're in Death Valley and with the two games previous, I like our chances!

FRIDAY OCT. 28. - VS. CARDINAL O'HARA (TONAWANDA, NY)
Eh, I'm actually growing tired of this game!

Is this what you were looking for?

95, looking at last years program, Buchtel had 29 kids on the roster, 22 of them being Sr's. Rumor has it that kids from all over Akron are flocking to Buchtel. They will be, BY FAR, the fastest team you play.
  • Sykotyk
I'm definitely not interesting int he St. Joe's are O'Hara games. But, the one acts as a warm-up to the Massillon game, and the other as a warm-up to the playoffs. So, not bad.

Really wish we could've gotten Inkster on the roster again, they were 'new'. Without being in a conference, it's amazing how bored you can get playing certain teams. I do like the EL game. Really hate the playing a Canadian team, but understand it happens sometimes.
  • ManO'War
I'm glad Inkster is gone. Their coach is gone and it looks like their program is heading south fast.
  • Sykotyk
True, but considering Big Red isn't in a mandatory-scheduling conference, it gets stale playing teams for too long. A series of 3 or 4 games is one thing, but the St. Joe's game has little interest from me. The '05 game was great, but it hasn't been much of a game since. But, they do want to play and haven't backed down, so for that I tip my cap at them. So, necessary evil, etc. But I'm still not a fan.
  • ManO'War
Be glad we are not in a league, or things would get really stale playing the same 7 teams for decades.

...Or playing more than 1-2 away games a year...that would be brutal...be glad

You do not have to put uncooked pasta that is still in the box on ice... Just FYI :)

Come on MOW, you know that things wouldn't get stale if the league was like the old AAC.

That was a little different....all elite teams that were spread throughout the Northeast part of the state. Plus it was only 5 league games per year, which left the flexibility for an interesting schedule.

I was referring to these leagues with 8-10 mediocre teams.

The Buchtel Griffs will take Big Red back to the '80's!

There is nothing wrong with that. Two of the best games we were ever involved in back then were with the Griffs. I believe one went to 1 or 2 overtimes.
    Cheers
