2011 Steubenville Big Red schedule

  • ManO'War
Do you realize how much our turf gets used? Football: Daily practice, Varsity, Reserve, Freshmen, Harding 7th and 8th grade, playoff games. Soccer: Daily practice, Varsity and Reserve games in both boys and girls, and youth soccer. Band: occasional practice. Harding: recess. The baseball team has even practiced there in the past. FUS holds a rugby game once or twice a year.

We have had it since 04, so that is 8 years of constant use.

I thought turf had a life expectancy of 10yrs? Since 04 means this will be the 8th yr. So in reality it's only been 7 yrs of constant use. Nevertheless, it should have held up better than it has.
  • ManO'War
The turf's life expectancy is determined by how much you use it. Martins Ferry's will probably last 20 since they don't let anyone on it and only play 5 home games per year.

I remember CCC got their turf in 99 and replaced it before we even had ours. Massillon has also had 2 "field turfs" and a handful of "astro turfs" since 1989.
  • war_admiral
Don't forget Rentral. They play 5 varsity games on Reno Field as well. So I would say that the turf has held up rather well, considering all the traffic it gets.
  • war_admiral
Go put Ferry's or St C's field up against the usage of Reno Field. We have had 30 football games played last year at Reno Field. That includes scrimmages, regular season and playoffs. For most schools that would be 3 seasons of play. For Reno Field it's a yawn.

Go figure, another outsider telling us about our program and facilities.
  • Mortgagestar1
Are we able to refocus on the topic of The Schedule? Any updates?
  • war_admiral
No updates, that's why we are chatting about the turf. lol that's just something you live with in Big Red threads i guess. Anything is fair topic inside of other topics

Listening to all of your excuses about how much field is being used and that being the reason the field is looking like it needs replaced. The fact of the matter is, for turf being installed in '04, hasn't held up very well. Don't deny it. Reno has a warranty for it. He needs to use it.

It still beats any of the cow pasture fields that the rest of the 4H'ers around here play on.

Nice touch manowar. I can always count on a so called big red supporter to hit below the belt and belittle another program or facility in this case local fields and stadiums. I guess the truth hurts the mighty big red sometimes.
  • ManO'War
I call it as I see it.
  • Mortgagestar1
LOL)) Man O War! Great comeback.

    holdingout,

When your confronted with "FACTS" you just ignore them and push your propaganda "NEGATIVE COMMENTS" about Reno Field and the program. We show you that Reno Field get's 3 times the traffic/play then a average field in one year and you say were coming up with "excuses". But they are FACTS. The estimated life of our turf is approximately 10-15 years depending on usage. By the way, you do understand maintenance is done in the "OFF-SEASON" every year on "ALL" turf fields just not Reno Field and it's written in the contract. So during the season they fix what they see then conduct a over all maintenance program on the turf. But you wouldn't understand that because your not in the know about OUR turf or ANY turf field.

Let me ask you these questions: Just how many times, in the last year, have you actually been on the turf @ Reno Field? What are the problems of the turf that you say"hasn't held up very well" and I'll address VERY WELL right here and now. I'll argue that the turf has held up exceedingly well or "very well". The fact that Reno Field has seen 3 times the amount of usage then other fields, I would say, prove it's strength.

So just be concerned with what's in your field of fire. Don't try to push a NEGATIVE NARRATIVE in this thread. When we shot down your post on scheduling you posted another negative about Reno Field. What do you do, just throw it to the wall and hope it sticks or that no one will call you on your posts?

These are the same questions I had! How can some one just come on here and ask, "By the way, when is big red going to replace their turf? Looks like its in bad shape." but then not specify how it's in bad shape! Ive seen the field and up close and although it's not brand new, in no way can I say it's in bad shape! So unless you're just trying to find another way of trying to poke at Big Red, explain to me how the turf is in bad shape!

I did a favor for a family friend the other day & dropped her kids off at Harding Jr. High, while on my way to a doctors appointment. I had some time to kill so I stopped over at the stadium to check out the turf & saw a sign on the gate that read "No Home Games " due too poor turf conditions!!! LOL.
  • cannoli137
Maybe they could give the turf to me & I could put it in my yard so I won't have to mow it anymore. They could do like ManO'War said & donate it to one of the local school's that play in the mud come Oct/Nov.

Let's get this thread back on topic LMAO 8 HOME GAMES YEAH!!!!;) Again the football revenue will be a plus. Once they finalize the Rally In Death Valley teams, this schedule will look pretty good.

Any beatable Ohio teams this on the schedule? Surely, the mighty red will not go o'fer to Ohio teams in 2011. By the way, have bids been opened on new turf yet?
  • war_admiral
Why don't your school schedule us and find out. I like how all you've done on here is post negative comments about Big Red. I love that we get under your skin.

    8-2 or 7-3 is what I predict.
  • FairwoodKing
We will have a young team but a good team. I think we are a year away from talking state championship.
  • cannoli137
Captvern, please tell me you are joking about them playing Bishop Ryan. IMO, they would have a better game playing Harding's 8th graders. Maybe next year Big Red can hit the road and everyone can travel to Canada for some good beer & tailgating. I think I may have the number for the Holiday Inn just off the Q.E.W & 20 Hwy. , there in Hamilton & I'am willing to show people around for a small fee LOL.
There are Tim Horton's on every corner for you coffee drinkers & the Million Dollar Saloon for those who like and yes you can't help but like that Canadian beer. It's a $5 cover charge for the Million Dollar Saloon but what those ladies can do with those $1 & $2 dollar coins will make your face red. I talked with someone that does radio & they said that Akron St.V-St.M would be on the schedule?????
