Oak Harbor under coach Quisno ran a Wing-T, Eastwood runs a Wing-T....therefore the 2 way players understand all of the misdirection better, helping them on defense quite a bit.
Alter and Orrville have a little something called Big Ten Linebackers! Hoobler, Borland, and Monheim....Big Ten LB's don't need to understand the Wing-T, they just sniff it out and get it done!!!!! Orrville has better developed athletes too IMO due to a stiffer level of competition, you can't give all the credit to the stud LB's but they sure don't hurt.
The Wing-T may be a junior high offense but when it is done well, it is very tough to defend. Coach Vicars learned it from one of the best Wing-T coaches ever so he is able to coach it very well.
The Kenton D scares me a little bit because of the 6 man front. If Nutter pops through to the 1st level....look out. He's gone...and staying on the field is our best defense against them.
Coach Mauk says he's the best RB they've seen all year...so we'll see how it shakes out.
    It's a shame Kyle is only a junior :D
...just for you though 5Knots - we will be losing one Nutter after this year. Next year there will be two and after that there will still be a Nutter one left LOL
Biggest advantage we had going onto the Genoa game last year was that 33-0 spanking at the hands of Clear Fork 4 weeks earlier. It helped our D to see that offense or at least very similar offense prior to the Genoa game...even if we did get our Butts kicked.

All-OCC football awards: Orrville's Monheim, Brenner, Wooster's Daugherty garner top honors

    From Staff Reports
The Ohio Cardinal Conference recently released its all-league football selections, with a trio of area players picking up Player of the Year Awards.
Second-place Orrville led the way with the OCC Defensive Player of the Year in senior Mason Monheim, while classmate Drew Brenner was named the OCC Special Team POY.
League champion Ashland boasted Coach of the Year Scott Valentine, and Arrows wide receiver Marquise Jones shared Offensive POY honors with Wooster senior quarterback Devin Daugherty.
Locally, Orrville had five players make the All-OCC first team in seniors Stewart Turner Jr., Dylan Lemon, Trevor White and Ronnie Lehtomaki, and sophomore Trevor Summers.
Devonta Anderson (Sr.) was Wooster's lone first-team All-OCC pick, while West Holmes put seniors Joey Gonzalez and Dustin Shaffer on the first team along with junior Keaton Leppla.
Rounding out the OCC first team was Mansfield Senior's Terrell Harris, Clear Fork's Cole Pollard, Logan Dernbach and Brandon Fields; Lexington's Andrew Hunter, Brandon Henderson and Johnny Webster; Madison's Taj Coffee, Riyad Black, Alek Lampert and Cody Thompson; and Ashland's Zach Bernhard, Greg Gallaway, Steve Mowry, Willie Moore, Seth Shakely and Adam Wolbert.
Area players named All-OCC second team included Orrville's Lareece Woods (Sr.), Zane Vierheller (Jr.) Cody Weaver (Sr.), Alex Samson (Sr.) and Nick Graber (Jr.); West Holmes juniors Garrett Mackey and Brock Macaulay and sophomore Brady Arnold; and Wooster junior Grant Stokes.
Honorable mention picks for the Generals included Keegan Bess, Brenner Lewis and Darrian Owens, along with West Holmes' Layne Perone, Grant Hay and Tyler Butler, and Orrville's Dakota Herrington, Kyle Lichti and BJ Johnson.
Ashland won the OCC with a 6-1 record, followed by Orrville (5-2), Madison (4-3), West Holmes, Lexington and Clear Fork all at 3-4, and Wooster and Mansfield Senior at 2-5.

    Thought it should be

Gtown...I tried real hard for the century page but I think we need a Nutter post or two to get us over the hump....
  • rrfan

Thanks RR1....I would never know how to post a pic. I do know copy and paste though...

I know AD only wanted 11 in the picture, but you can certainly add Drew Brenner, Lareece Woods (who had run home by the time the pic was taken),Brandon Lockhart, Gabe Siegrist(sp?) , Harrison Brown and Dane Kick to this group.
  • OQB
That is a fine group of football players right there!

    GO RIDERS!

What's neat is that Ty. White, Tr. White, Woods, Lemon, Zook and Johnson are pretty much only playing one way.

That's more than half of your defense only playing one way. I know all could play offense if needed....but they're been pretty much exclusively defense for the last month.

A good problem to have for a roster as small as ours.
  • BUFORO
GREAT PICTURE THEY REALLY GOT THEIR "BAD BOYS" LOOK ON

That same can't be said for Norwayne....as they do have just 1-way players, the real studs on their team go both ways just like ours.

I'd give the Emmy to Zook and Summers for the best "growly" look. The two sophs.

absolutely! I watched the bobcats huffing and puffing when they were in the 4th quarter against the smithies and falcons.

Those two will be the anchors of the defense for the next 2 years!

Sidenote: With the running backs we have coming up through the system, we'll need to get our billboard out early to try and get some lineman to move in

Its a shame Matt Davis isn't in the picture, I know he hasn't played D this year but he was a stud when he did.

I look at it this way.....did it absolutely suck losing him to the kneee injury? YES! But look what Zook has done stepping in as just a sophomore and contributed to the defense. That's what is so special about Orrville football....you can lose a great player like Davis and the next guy in line can fill the spot and be a contributer.

I'm really glad Davis is able to play, because no doubt we are a better football team with him out there...even if it is TE.

It was good to see #15 out on the field with the D last week later on. What Matt had meant to this team and Ridr Nation family is immeasurable this year. And I am not talking about just this season. He was a weight room leader all year with younger kids. It can be a very intimidating thing for a young kid or newbie to set foot in the weight room for the first time. To have leaders like Matt and Mason and Trevor White for that matter there to encourage kids and not ridicule them is what builds a program. they teach them how to do things properly and make sure they know it is not how much you lift but how well you do it that matters and will improve you as an athlete. Great job # 15!

Maybe we have been lucky...I don't know? But Jeeeez. how do you let a kid run for 413 yards against you? Tackle Him!!!! At least tackle him and make somebody else beat you! I'm dumbfounded.
Delone Carter "only" ran for 248 on us my senior yr. And he's playing on sundays. I doubt that kid is that talented.
  • OQB
^It's Delone Carter and he ran all over us haha....we shut down the Nutter kid in last year's game.

I would NOT want to tackle THIS GUY! (pictured is Delone Carter)

Delone Carter is who exactly cam to my mind when I was writing that post. If my memory is correct the riders kept him check for most of the first half, but then he broke 2-3 and it was over. But that was an NFL caliber running back..not anutter Nutter. hahaha

I found myself watching Davis whenever he was on the field. He's got to be such an inspiration for his teammates and coaches...Hell, he inspired this old man in the stands. Orrville kids are tough and he's a perfect example. Some people on the WCAL thread are wondering why Orrville is a cut above every year..this is it

the best part of that game was saturday morning when Coach Mac was like "I watched the tape from last night and he was one of the best I have even seen." well 250 yards and 6 td's later. Yea you can say that... Glad to see that he is doing well. I felt bad for him his freshamn yr at 'Cuse when he broke his leg.
  • RedRider1
Was at that game...you just had to appreciate the guys talent.

The only Mr. Football to ever play a game at Red Rider Stadium.

I remember those films as well.....haha

I can brag a little bit, he didn't return any of my punts, I was strictly told to not let him return one. :D

He was/is a heckava football player.
