Of course, I wouldn't be able to afford the tuition....Wait, what? For free? You're kidding right? You mean I could go to, ________ (fill in random parochial school), for FREE, just because I'm a good athlete?
The only schools that are free are the public schools. The funny thing is, if you were young again, the parochial school coaches would give you a chance, just like they give everybody who goes out a chance. But you, like everyone else, have to pay the tuition. The tax money only pays for public schools and charter schools.

I do not completely agree with this. I have watched some small school defeat private schools soundly. One instance is 2003 when Smithville (D-V) surprised Bedford-Chanel (defending state champs) and then beat Delphos St. Johns in the snow bowl in Mansfield. Both private schools were favored. I know there are other cases where this has happened, but being the underdog can be a great motivator.

It would seem the divide being public/private widens as you get into the higher divisions, perhaps due to student body size and more metropolitan areas to draw from.

I wouldn't have called the game in Mansfield a "snow" bowl, more like a MUD bowl. After the fallout from this game, the OHSAA mandated that state semi-finals be played on turf.

Marion Local competes year in and year out with DSJ and they are in the same division. They must be a cheater private school too. Nope, just hard working kids who know what it takes to be a good program. Also, Marion Local beat Ursuline at state back when they were in D5. It's funny how people always forget about Marion Local. That school proves that you can be a small public school and can compete without "recruiting"". It's also funny how you never hear about the people up at Maria Stein complain about DSJ being a private school. Guess that's what makes them winners.

Also should mention that back in the 90's when St. Henry was dominating D6 there were many people who accused them of being a "cheating" private school that recruited, and I even heard some people say they could prove it. Then I would have the pleasure of informing them that they were a public school and that the name of the city was St. Henry. I just find it funny what people will say without really having a clue. Marion Local and St. Henry are two schools that have had just as much success as DSJ over the last 20 years. Some people just like to whine and make excuses to make themselves feel better. This 115 page thread case in point.

You make too much sense. Skank and his buddies don't understand logic. If you are going to continue to post such logical posts you have to go. ;)

I have never been in favor of changing the playoffs, it would just water everything down. The only problem I have is the money issue. Getting a private education is a privilage not a right! I am against vouchers and scholarships. If you want your child to get a private education, then you have to pay for it, if you cant afford it, then you go to public school.
  • rmolin73
LOL yeah go to the public school that is failing:thumbdown:

And this has what to do about football playoffs?

It has everything to do with athletics, Private schools may not get some of the top athletes, if they have to pay full tuition.

So a parochial school complained enough that the field conditions cost them the game as they think they "would have" won if it was played on turf??? And then imagine that, the state sided with the parochial school and changed the rules so that games "will" be played on turf!!

    If anyone is interested....
Look at Drew Pastuers Fantastic 50....Ursaline has to beat Mooney and some help to make the playoffs. Ursaline as it stands is only a 95 to 1 odds to win the state title today......but if they make the playoffs, Drew Pastuer has them as an immediate 2 to 1 odds to win it all. WOW!

    Ursuline beat Mooney last week.

Where in that post is it stated that the school that lost complained about the field conditions? Where did you get the information (other than making it up) the the OHSAA changed a rule do to a particular complaint from 1 school?

    Secondly, it's spelled U R S U L I N E

I was on the OHSAA board that voted to change it...and yes their complaining had a big part in that!

Thanks for being my secretary and correcting my spelling!

Since we're correcting people, it's due....Not do. You'd think an English Major would have nailed that one.

You were on the board, and you can't spell Ursuline correctly

That explains quite a bit

By the way, the board voted to present the issue to the membership. You didn't vote to change anything (thankfully)

You would have screwed up the best playoff system in the country. You could have been sooooo proud :(
  • skank
That's not THAT big of a deal, I know a guy who claims to be an English Major, yet doesn't know the difference between do and due. Plus he hates punctuation.

Public's just need to quit scheduling the privates.. Look what happen to Ursuline.

Don't know what you mean by this. Ursuline played four public schools this year (going 2-2 against them). Last year, they only played three public schools.

So what exactly is your point?

The year before...Ursuline only played 2 public schools.

What he means is Ursuline is too good for his school so he doesn't want to play them. It's a shame that these whiners can't hide during the playoffs. It would be a lot quicker to just let the teams like Coldwater or Marion Local line up and play the parochial schools.

    Just thought I'd look this up just for fun. Starting in 1994 here is the list of D5 and D6 state champs;

    DV ..........................................DVI
    94- Versailles.........................St. Henry
    95- Lisbon David Anderson........St. Henry
    96-Marion Pleasant..................Mogadore
    97- Liberty Center.................Delphos St. Johns
    98-Versailles........................Delphos St. Johns
    99- Amanda Clearcreek..........Delphos St. Johns
    00-Amanda Clearcreek............Marion Local
01- Bedford St. Peter Chanel.....Marion Local
    02- Marion Pleasant.................Mogadore
    03- Gahanna Columbus Academy..Columbus Grove
    04- St Henry............................Hardin Northern
    05- Patrick Henry....................Delphos St. Johns
    06- St. Henry..........................Marion Local
    07- Marion Local.....................Newark Catholic
    08- Ursuline............................Delphos St. Johns
    09- Ursuline..........................Norwalk St. Paul
    10- Ursuline...........................Delphos St. Johns

So it looks like Ursuline, Delphos St. Johns, Amanda Clearcreek, Versailles, Marion Pleasant, St. Henry, Mogadore, and Marion Local have had lots of success. I find it funny how people just focus on DSJ and Ursuline.
