Is it time for private schools to have theyre own playoffs in football

thavoice;879233 wrote:Our school has been beaten by a private school in the state finals three times.

But they have also beaten a private school twice in the state finals as well.

We have also beaten a number of private schools on the playoff runs.

It def creates a david vs goliath mentality for the public school

It can be tough going against them, but I dont think there should be separate divisions for the both. Maybe some sort of multiplier for a private school with how wide ranging their enrollment is or whatnot.

BUt...i would rather not see separate divisions.

That's the "problem". It creates a "David vs. Goliath mentality". The MENTALITY is the problem, not the reality. The poor, poor public schools, where everybody gets a full scholarship, just has the mentality that it can't compete against the private schools, where people choose to go. People choose to go there because the education contains spiritual aspects as well as academic and physical.

The mentality of the GCL schools (I played football at two of them) is that you'd better strap it on a little stronger when you go against another GCL school. The public schools when I played there, 100 years ago, didn't hit as hard or hate losing as much as the GCL schools. It's a cultural thing at each school, but that was the general feeling. The same thing is true now at Alter, where my son played. The GCL is definitely the challenging part of the schedule, until the playoffs. The teams that go deep into the playoffs are in their own class (Steuby, Chagrin Falls, Hartley - Catholic school, Kenton, Jonathon Alder, Genoa).

So fix the public school mentality and you fix the problem. Multiply the public schools' hatred of losing and get rid of the participation awards. Why would dumbing down the competition fix anything?

What a crock....Then you add that the GCL is "definately the challenging part of the schedule". THAT part may be true, but it ain't because the privates care more.

I REALLY like the orange highlighted sentence. Yeah, I'm sure the conversation went a little like this:

Dambrot/ "Lebron, how would you like to bring a few of your friends and play for us over here at St. V?"
Lebron/ "Well coach, that's very tempting, could you tell me a little more about the spiritual aspects of the school?"
Dambrot/ "Huh? Oh....Yeah, there, ah....Yeah, there great....Definately great spiritual aspects at St. V."
Lebron/ "Yeah, but can you tell me about some of them? As you well know, I'm a devout Catholic, and I NEVER miss Mass."

Ole, Keithy must of told him what he wanted to hear.

Since you're so astute at interpreting conversations, how about informing us about the one where Zwick's dad "just happened" to get a job at your stunningly successful academic institution, his son "just happened" to go there, and the old man "just happened" to retire when the kid left

    This should be interesting :p

Remember though, that your face turns red when you lie

And as always, look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary, and say hi to your face

Massillon hiring a highly qualified educator, despite the fact that his son is a stud QB, is WAY less suspicious than a parochial school with a starting backfield who's family can barely afford groceries, yet they're sending their kids to schools that cost $8,000 a year. How in the world can they afford that?

The voucher system and the fact that the Youngstown city schools are crappy enough to allow them to qualify for that.

Do you ever get tired of looking foolish?

Did you come up with this line all on your own, or is your 4 year old standing by?

Come on man, an English Major can do better than that with the English language.

I may come to the Red lion game in Tiger town and or Y Town .. I think Massillon has a better chance at beating that team than Mooney .. Just because the fans .. Massillon has a huge home town advantage .. I have never seen any town follow there football as much as Massillon .. They have more fans than the buffalo bills
  • rmolin73
Really they will win because of their fans?

No but they have a heck of a home field advantage .. that team coming in from Delaware will have never played in front of something like they are going to believe me ... the Pittsburgh Steelers win some games because of there fans . the Ohio state Buckeyes win some close games because it is so loud ..Home field applies at a few high school venues .. Harding stadium in Steubenville is one of them .. but PBTS full of rabid HS fans that will give Massillon 14 points before the other team gets off the bus you can believe that .. Maybe you should go to this game I may

This team is a traveling all star team they won't give two hoots about Massillon Stadium and their fans trust me. The fans can give them all they want it will be up to the Massillon players to actually score.

Maybe they will be distracted by the bottles flying on the field

Yes I have played and felt the adrenaline but this is just a regular season game not a state championship. I think Massillon gets handled.

It would be nice to have LeBron and his friends enroll at every Catholic school. Or every public school. Believe it or not, conversations like that do happen at Catholic schools. Obviously not every student is a LeBron or even an athlete. Some non-Catholics appreciate the spiritual aspect of Catholic schools as well as anything else, too.

You can continue to be snarky and snide, but the truth reveals itself. That's why they play the game. You look at the success of the private schools compared to all public schools, and don't realize that the private schools are competing with the better public schools for their very existence. They're not interested in competing with the average public schools. If they would do that, people would choose the average public schools because they're FREE.

Why would you go to an average restaurant when there are better than average restaurants around? The average restaurants and those that are too expensive compared to alternatives are dying. Public money keeps average or even terrible public schools in existence. If they were private, they wouldn't exist any more. That must be the situation in Youngstown, from what the posters say.

Private schools will always be disproportionately more successful than public schools, because they don't have the law propping them up. Some awful public schools do. It's pretty simple, really. But you don't seem to understand the simplest of things.

They use that kind of language for your team heartofalion, but when I used these exact words to describe Cincinnati Moeller from the early '80's, they said I was crazy. Moeller was getting kids from several different states.

Not looking past Maumee, (or anybody else on the schedule), but what kind of crowd can we expect you to bring from Delaware?

    Other notable, "traveling all-star teams",

    Ignatius
    St. Edward
    Moeller
    St. Xavier
    Elder
    Mooney
    Ursuline

    Notice a trend yet?

Its just funny the perception folks have.(gotta love the press). I saw one thread on the yappi forum where we were refered to as a corporate team lol.. Talking like this is all paid for by sponsors and what not.. Heck I wish.. then I wouldn't have all these raffle tickets to sell and all these fundraising requirements us parents have ... by the way we loved the game programs Ursuline has.. very nice..
