Week 13: Genoa (12-0) vs. Orrville (9-3)
-
OQBI look for Turner and Brenner to have big games this week as I am watching this film.
-
OQBIt looks as if Dufondock and Nutter is the offense. Everything runs through them. If we can take Dufondock and make him a non factor I think we have a pretty good chance in this one. Isn't Dufondock the player who got lit up on a punt return last year?
-
GenoaCometAnyone know if there will be an internet-radio broadcast of the game?
-
OQB104.5 Wooster WQKT radio should have it on their website live.

usernameGenoa's "talent" was better last year, but as the year has gone on this year's group of players has become the better "team". Last year's team was unbelievably cocky and over the top. If they could have ever just shut up and play together who knows, but that group just never totally got it.
QB has over 1000 yards passing now and double digit td's against maybe 5 int's.
Nutter has over 1500 yards now and over 20 td's, would probably have over 2000 if the competition dictated he played more into 2nd half.
2 receivers have 20+ catches a piece.
Andrew Hayes OG/DL was SLL player of the year.
The secondary struggled early in the year, but it was quite a new group on defense overall. They have really gotten better as the year has gone on. Plus sometimes the kids are put in tough positions playing on an island and blitzing alot. Don't think you'll see Genoa be too aggressive on defense this year after being toasted in the first half so badly last year.
The strength of the team lies in the offensive line. They come off the ball incredibly fast and low. The surge they have gotten the past 2 weeks and very good opponents, OG's defense that held Kenton to 20 points. The offense is not as explosive as last year, but they just pound the ball at you. 3 yards and a cloud of dust. No D1 players, just a group that seems to get along really well and has good leadership. -
OQBNot trying to be a pain in the butt, but don't you think all the playoff teams have players with similar stats, players who are league players of the year, have team strengths and weaknesses, and get along well as a team.....
Let me just show you what I mean: 2010 Orrville Football Team
QB Kyle Lichti has about 1,900 yards passing 19 td's
RB Tre Simpson has about 1,200 yards rushing and 15 td's
2 Recievers Turner and Brenner 35+ catches each, Turner with about 9 td's Brenner with about 6 td's.
RB/LB Mason Monheim was OCC defensive player of the year. Also has about 500 rushing yards and 6 td's
Quarterback struggled early in the year because he is only a sophomore....playing like a veteran now and managing the game well. Play calling hindered him early in the year (coaches are calling great plays now)
Strength of our team is the defense, and running game. We returned 4/5 lineman this year and Simpson has rushed for over 1,000 yards back to back years.
The secondary has improved the most I would say over the season as we held Triway and Elyria Catholic's high scoring offenses to season lows in points scored.
The offense is very balanced and if you key on one the other will beat you.
We have one senior who is going D1 this year, and 2 maybe 3 juniors who will go D1. This group is very close and the team is grounded and respects all their opponents, but doesn't fear anyone! It's what we like to call "swag" and we are confident in our coaches, players, and gameplans that they will bring us a victory. -
usernameSomeone asked for info on Genoa, I was providing some.
-
OQBhaha ok, well their is info on Orrville for you
-
usernameBetter then all the other bull on here. Pissing match between 8 year olds lol.
-
OQBhaha yeah I get tired of hearing it, last year was last year. What you did in the regular season is in the regular season. What you did last week is last week.
Throw out the records and stats....
This is playoff football! You play 48 minutes of football and the best team wins. -
GenoaCometSome might find this article interesting: http://www.presspublications.com/from-the-press/5646-football-helps-comets-cuevas-heal-after-june-tornado
It tells about one of our players, Chris Cuevas, who survived the June tornado that flattened dozens of homes, destroyed Lake high School, and claimed 7 lives - and destroyed Chris' home while he was inside it.
Puts a lot of this in perspective. -
RedRider1^^I wondered about Cuevas. Thought he was the heir apparent to the Genoa running game watching him last year. Hope he and his family are back on their feet. Stuff like that will make you focus on what's important.
Catching up on the last few pages.....I think a few things are clear....
1. Orrville has the edge in talent
2. Neither team is "as good" as it was last year.
3. Genoa isn't a team sizing their state title rings like they were last year, much more workmanlike in their approach. -
RedRider1clickclickboom;560118 wrote:Oh and i think 4 years straight is more impressive than 21 times in 100 years.. just sayin.. and it does count as year in and year out.
Um...playoffs have only been around since 1972. So, 21 appearances in 38 years IS impressive. 5th most appearances among public schools in the entire state. -

Thank you for this. it was good reading. I agree about the Genoa offensive line....very very good. Not to take anything away from Nutter, but I think any average to decent back could have had the stats he had behind those guys.....reminds me a lot like CF. That will be the challenge for the Riders. There will be no surprises from Genoa this week....why would they. It is basically, this is what we do, this is who we are, try and stop us. Very impressive. Once again I reiterate, team that makes fewest mistakes will win. -
RedRider1I can't access the on-demand video of the CF/Genoa game on WMFD. Says something about them taking the videos down as a courtesy to local teams still in the playoffs.
-
5knotsIt makes sense. Teams are required to give 2 films...whatever ones the opposition requests. if they know they can access last weeks game they could actually get 3-4. We just asked for the last 2. Our courteous way.

1. Dive up the middle with fb lead block
2. motion with pitch outside with motion man lead block/kickout
3. playation pass either fade/screen/flat route
passes downfield go to #10, rb gets the passes out of the backfield
4. Student body left, student body right....QB goes out to give lead block, they also have the same play where qb hands off to back, back hands off to reciever (#10) for a reverse and follows QB outside.
usually the motion man tells you which way they are going, but gotta read your keys.
I wonder if the comets will have as many penalties against us as they did CF....sheesh, plenty to choose from.
Sounds like you got it all figured out...hopefully your coaches only watch one game as well . A teams game plan changes from week to week i've seen film on orrville but can't remember what type of defense they run is it similar to CF? -

No sense asking for anything prior. Team's are a shadow of what they were back in week 1 & 2. -

Very accurate! If Orrville has the pure athletes at the DB positions, I would think they would want 8+ men in the box at all times! If recovery speed and the reaction to the game flow is as good as your posters say it is, this gives them the best chance to stop the Genoa running game. BUT... if Genoa's OL starts to push the Orrville DL back (like they have done consistantly in every other game thus far), the fill lanes are going to be cut off and that was exactly what happened to CF. This is when Nutter becomes very dangerous and Dufendock has done a great job the last two weeks finishing off that first backer that trys to fill! -

Plus the last two weeks are far and away the best opponents we have played... It is pretty obvious you will get 10X from those what you would in the 75 blowout against Gibsonburg lol -

Great info. That Dufendock is a beast. He got hit very hard on a punt return during last years game. He'll be very motivated for this game. Orrville will need to tackle well in space. Sounds like Nutter does his work in the second level of defenders. -

There ya go.. stop it.. you know whats funny about play number 1? Nutter's the fullback -
5knots^ easier said than done. We are well aware of that. We have a little talent as well. If they are going to run isolation with Dufendock on our Mike backer....that will be a fun collision to watch! Both boys will no they hit something...real hard.

Very good point about the O line. Our defense works when our backers can make plays....like most defenses. that all depends on the boys up front..if they win their battle we make plays, if they lose their battle....gonna be a long night for the D. they don't say the game is played in the trenches for nothing. It is!GCTD64;560479 wrote:Very accurate! If Orrville has the pure athletes at the DB positions, I would think they would want 8+ men in the box at all times!
