Suiting up is one thing...utilizing those "weapons" on the field, therein seems to be the question.RedRider1;553651 wrote:Max has heighth and when he's targeted, he catches the ball. My bigger point is that all of our weapons need to be on the field on both sides of the ball.
Both Max & Stew have been blessed with athletic ability over and above what most have. We're fortunate to have both suiting up for us tomorrow night. -
RedRider1Series62;553653 wrote:Is that why so many are complaining about his play calling? Perhaps he should listen to his guys in the "box".
I believe that speed and maneuverability was there when he transferred, the coaches should have adopted and utilized that a long time ago.
Wondered how long it would take for you to play the "he's not being utilized correctly" card. -
RedRider1Series62;553658 wrote:Suiting up is one thing...utilizing those "weapons" on the field, therein seems to be the question.
Do you take issue with kids like Matt Davis and Mason not getting more "touches?" Or just Turner?
Just trying to understand if your problem is with the entire offensive playcalling, or are you just singling out one kid? Remember...you have Tre, Mason, Stew, Drew and Max. I'd call all of them playmakers....and their performance this year backs it up. Each has made big plays for this team this season. -
Series62Perhaps you should stop wondering and start observing, it's not that he's not being "utilized correctly", perhaps he wasn't really being utilized at all! For as many times as he's actually been used, he's been productive.
Your earlier comment, "If it's not obvious to the coaches that Stew needs to touch the ball 7-10 times on offense (not counting special teams) per game....then it never will be."
Perhaps it's not obvious to them and you too! -
RedRider1So it's just Stewart that you have a problem with being underutilized. Got it.
Exactly what I thought.
Carry on, everyone.
And just so I'm clear...there's not a person on this thread that thinks Stewart SHOULDN'T get the ball more. His talent is very evident and does need to get more touches....but again, it needs to be done smartly with him in space, where he can be most effective.
Let's say you get 30 run plays a game...Tre is going to get 20, and Mason, Stew & Kyle have been getting the other 10. Probably no more than 2 or 3 for Stew on that jet sweep (in space). He's not a guy that's going to be productive running north and south out of the backfield....at least not this year.
Kyle averaged 9.6 completions per game. That's not many completions to spread around. It'd be different if he were completing 20+ per game and only 1 or 2 per game to Turner.
I get your bigger point that he needs utilized more....but where do you see that coming from? This isn't a big "route running" corps of receivers....it's "throw it up and get it."
Can't run that bubble screen more than a few times a game...same with the jet sweep. What plays should be being called that aren't? -

Like many guys that work in the media, you have a way of attempting to twist words...yet, you're failing!RedRider1;553680 wrote:So it's just Stewart that you have a problem with being underutilized. Got it.

I don't have a problem with what they're doing, I'm just stating what I see, maybe I'm wrong! I'm cool with that too! -

Pretty accurate, but they make it seem like Turner and the QB running the ball is your offense. Much more well-rounded than that. IMO, you seem to me to be an offense that would LIKE to pound with Simpson and Monheim but will turn to the athletes on the edge if/when you need it. Either way, Orrville's O is pretty well-rounded. Also interested that they got Turner's name but not Pirman's or Monheim's. Either way, great site! -
Con_AlmaYou have to remember that's one guys observation. When you say "they" it's not very accurate.
It has nothing to do with the team's including coaches view of this game. -
RedRider1Pit,
That's what we like. Maybe all this attention to the underutilized Turner will open things up for Drew. -
5knotsseries you are a pot stirrer. You watch these guys play what 2-3 friday nights and you're an expert on how we should use them. Be at practice for 4 months and watching film the whole time like these coaches. THEY know what these guys can do and what they can't do against certain schemes. You think you know but don't have a clue. Just like bashing one of our players and always preface it with a Ricky Bobby "with all due respect" to make it sound like not an insult. I'll say it again....any team that want to ignore Pirman and treat him just like another DE....go ahead. Our defense is designed for our LB's to make plays hence they get the glory. It sucks really. I know it upsets Mason to get the attention because he is just doing what his position is supposed to do and it wouldn't happen of 10 other guys aren't doing their job. that is the problem with individual awards in a team sport like football........prime example is Erik Howard from Hoover....just an above average back that was a product of a good team and system that featured him.

More like abused him... I could not believe the workload he got each and every week. -

More like abused him... I could not believe the workload he got each and every week! But having seem him play 3-4 times, I find it hard to describe him as "just an above average back"... He was an animal that fought for every yard, had great strength, amazing balance, and a ton of endurance. If their offense had any other weapons, he may have had even better success if 9 defensive players couldn't key on him. You just felt bad for him, knowing he was going to get the ball, get 3-4 yards, and get pounded by 2 DL's and 2 LB's. Every play... for 30, 40, 50 plays. -

That attention you speak of is solely from an fan. Do you believe that a Coaching staff's decisions and game prep are being reflected in those comments?
A fans focalized attention has never opened up anything in a defense on the field. -
RedRider1FYI - Turner is over 1000 all-purpose yards on the season. Team's leading receiver and 9 total TD's on the year. Pretty productive year for him. Similar to Sam Miller last year.
Being a member of the media (that makes me blush).....I have access to those stats. -

I believe everything I read on a website that spells Orrville with 1 R and doesnt bother to know anything more than the jersey # of our kids.
I'm sure both staffs have plenty of respect for both teams....gonna be a lot of talent on the field tomorrow. -

You could make that argument for 4-5 guys on this team. Good problem to have is too much talent for everyone to get their touches. We can deal with that.Series62;553674 wrote:Perhaps you should stop wondering and start observing, it's not that he's not being "utilized correctly", perhaps he wasn't really being utilized at all! It's more than 1 guy....why does series center in on 1 of those 5. -

I sense your sarcasm but it doesn't explain what in the world this means.RedRider1;553708 wrote:I believe everything I read on a website that spells Orrville with 1 R and doesnt bother to know anything more than the jersey # of our kids.
"..Pit,

Is that some kind of wishful thinking that a HS fan who creates a website might somehow over focus on one aspect of Orrville and impact the game??
I'm not the brightest guy in the world so I ask for your patientince in tryin to understand what in the world you mean by that statement. -

Exactly...and when you have a guy that's outrunning his defender, a few well placed plays such as that will help open up the run game for Simpson/Monheim.RedRider1;553680 wrote:...I get your bigger point that he needs utilized more....but where do you see that coming from? A-Yes, I'm a pot stirrer, an essential role in thoroughly mixing the ingredients...you've seen/smelled stagnant water
B-How much film study does it take to realize your WR is beating his CB, a well placed downfield pass reception will help to open the run game for Simpson/Monheim
C-I've not bashed any player, I don't agree, (and I'm not alone) with the "awesome" assessment of some players, despite who has recruited them, nor have I prefaced any of my comments with an "in all due respect" in any way shape or form
D-If the defense is built around the LB's, other teams recognize that fact also, keying on the LB's helps to some extent to free up the DE's...Pirman has played in the games I watched like just another DE.
E-Monheim should not be upset because he played his position well
F-You state that Erik Howard is just an, "above average back", NOT WHEN YOU RUN AS HE HAS!
G-You can't discuss the Red Riders without sounding as though you're seemingly kissing their "asterisks", why not?
H-You're not a coach nor are you on the coaching staff, why do you get to view film with the team, ^^^? -
