100th meeting. Wooster v. Orrville
-
Mike Plant
the photos were split 50/50 ... the 1998 state title was obviously huge but the game that year was a blowout and, IMO, not one of the top 10 games between the schools. The 1986 game was a classic, down to the final play. Every boxscore, including the 90s, was listed.RedRiderTradition;537474 wrote:I thought the Daily Record Special Edition was a bit one sided in Wooster's favor in regards to the rivalry. Most photos of games from Wooster wins. It didn't even mention the Orrville's dominating decade of the 90's winning 9 out of 10 gameS, multiple playoff appearances and a State Title. But it highlighted Wooster's one of only a few playoff appearances in 1986. I guess a 44-12 win by the Red Riders in 1998 was not really that great of a game even though Orrville went on to win the only State Championship Wayne County has in football.
It's hard to get everything in but we tried to be balanced and show greats from both schools from all eras ... space precluded every single outstanding player getting pictured.
I'm glad I have 50 years to get the next one ready. -
OQB^^I knew some of those comments would draw you out of the woodwork! haha

Mike PlantI don't know about drawing me out of the woodwork, just thought I'd explain.
Most stuff, like The Daily Mistake references, I let pass.
Should be a huge crowd tonight, hope a great game caps it all off -

Headed to Pancake Day here in an hour. I will report on the condition of Follis later this morning. -
OQBI really hope they filled those ruts in from that truck show

CCRollyI would say the Pep Rally at Maurer Field was an outstanding success last night. It was nice to see Wooster fans actually standing and cheering loudly in support of their football team. Will that transcend over to tonight...well, we'll have to see. The Generals now know that there is no tomorrow for them. Hopefully this will let them take as many gambles as necessary and go all out for a win tonight. Tough spot for the Riders if you lose tonight...a trip to OG doesn't sound too promising.

I agree, Very Good turn out. Really liked the Messages from Tressel, Kobe Bryant. -
SinisterMinisterGood luck to both teams tonight in their 100th meeting. What a rivalry...did some of my Orrville boys on here play in the first meeting?ha Special thoughts to the senior parents. Enjoy the night!

Plant, You are correct, I agree that the 1998 game was a total blow out but was I still disappointed that no mention of the Red Riders dominating 90's was included in the section with exception of the box scores. Every other decade was covered with pictures and photos from that era, 1920's- 2000's. Orrville had some great teams of in that decade and also happened to dominate Wooster during that period. I was surprised that the 1991 game was not included in the top ten as it ended 23-24 with a questionable PAT miss by Wooster late in the 4th quarter. No doubt it was hard to cover all of the games and it's players but it just seemed odd that the decade where Orrville had it's greatest success against Wooster and as football team was omitted from the section. And as for the "Daily Mistake" comments, Stultz did not change his name to Stoltz from 1994 to 1995.Mike Plant;538207 wrote:the photos were split 50/50 ... the 1998 state title was obviously huge but the game that year was a blowout and, IMO, not one of the top 10 games between the schools. Wooster All-SportAlmost game time, great to see the way our community has rallied around the Generals. There aren't many on Chatter here but lots of blue and gold around town and support for the team. Feelgood about our chances tonite.
100 years worth of games and there are going to be a few typos, I think they did a great job with the section but if it makes people puff their chests out a little and say things bam then way to go. I appreciate having a local paper that covers sports the way The Daily Record does. -
5knotsIt's all in fun here buddy. Don't try and make some silly statement an issue. It's Orr-Woo week........if "bam" has you upset.....maybe stay home? Cause we got some mo......we got some mo.....we got some mo fo you! Go Riders!
