100th meeting. Wooster v. Orrville

  • 5knots
Didn't watch it from that perspective. In other words I did not watch it wondering "how good did Max play". My point all along is that it is not this kid's fault he is being pursued by some big ten programs. He is doing his best like everyone else. I think it is unfair for people to say the things they have said. Most of the Orrville fans it is out of frustration when we lose. I wouldn't want it said about my son and I am sure you wouldn't want it said about your son(s) and same is true for anyone else.
So you came to our game instead of your kid's game?

I get all that! Question is, if 5knots and the coaching staff get it too, why were so many of you complaining about the poor play calling (offense and defense), by the coaching staff?

Are they not adept at using that "useful learning tool"?

I am not a Coach. As the saying goes......as a Head Coach, as soon as you start listening to the fans......you will be slitting with them.

As far as learning from the loss.....we'll find out and so will you.
  • Series62
My son is in Colorado at the Air Force Academy...he doesn't play football for them, but he will be running track for them.

I watch the game to for entertainment, but since so many are raving about #88's play, I did check his play to see if it was consistent with the hoopla, I didn't think it was, my opinion, not hating on the young man, I just don't think it was.

I thought Hoobler's play fit the Big Ten set, Pirman, ain't no Hoobler!

I know that you aren't a coach, I believe I know who you are, (not that it matters)! I don't think the coach should listen to the fans either.

However, I do wonder if he had film or useful notes regarding Clear Forks play, because somebody didn't seem to learn that much, especially if the Riders are as good as some seem to believe.

Not sure I know where the defense has had bad playing calling an issue. The defense has played well all year. As far as Clear Fork game after being on the field 80% of the game through 3 quarters they finally ran out of gas IMO. Rider D will be ready Sat. night. My big fear is ball control on offense. 3 and outs kill us and we need to use more clock. We need the running game we were told we would have at the beginning of the season. We give up on it to soon. Clear Fork never gave up on the running game even when they had not scored for almost 2 quarters. If we can put together a string of drives and use clock on Sat. we will be in the game. If we go 3 and out and leave our D on the field all night it could get ugly. Max has had some good games (Triway) where his play was huge.

We are on the same page...I mixed you up with someone else..sorry. You are correct about Chase Hoobler......he was under recruited if that could be a term. WVU picked Jewone Snow over Hoobler.....at the Big 33 game it was evident to all in attendance who the best LB on the field was.....the entire field. Chase was an impact player on the field. But it is interesting, the CF games last year were not some of Chase's impact games defensively...it really takes a total team assignment effort to beat that type of offense....one guy no matter how good can be a non factor just by them going the other way. or making him commit to his assignment, which you have to do or they will burn you.

As Go Riders said CF didn't exactly blow us off the field, but you let them run that many plays and you are going to have break downs on the defense and they are good enough to make you pay for every one of them. Our inept offense ( their great defense) whichever. Score should have been 14-6 us in the 3rd. Maybe that changes what they try to do....probably not and they still win anyway in my book but close game. You were there, you have your own opinion.
  • Old Rider
That particular night Clear Fork beat us by 33...but I will say it till I am blue in my face that Clear Fork IS NOT 33 points better than us! We just struggled to get things going offensively and that is a credit to their defense because they had a good gameplan to limit what we wanted to do.

That being said...I think Clear Fork will be tough to beat in the playoffs if they maintain that consistency.

    GO RED RIDERS! BEAT wooster!

Looking at the scores of woosters games this year it is clear they put up points. Only 1 game were they held to under 28 points and that was Clear Fork they only scored 7. We have to put together drives that eat some clock. I can't say it enough. We really need some running game!! It is great if you score when all you do is pass but if you don't the pressure is on the defense all night. I think we have to put mason and matt in when we are in the red zone period. We lost 14 points last week because we refused to put those two in last week when we were in the red zone IMO. The run will eventually open the pass. Just look at what Clear Fork did in the 4th quarter. They made some good passes and we were caught off guard.

T-Shirts the boys received tonight, They looked really good IMO.

This is the Eve of the start of the festivities. Want to see a good show? Stop in to the high school tomorrow at 1:30. It will make all Rider fans proud. Go Riders!

P.S.- Some parents I talked to gave a great tip. They are going to leave a parked car during the day of the game, then have someone drop them off near game time. Pretty smart.
  • OQB
Interesting conversation tonight.... I would agree with you 5k when you said you could be the best player on the field and have no impact on the game.

Remember the Genoa game, they would call plays and audible to the side Chase wasn't on...it is a TEAM effort 11 will beat 1 all day everyday I don't care how good you are.

Let's get back to the Orrville/Wooster game

Nice article in today's DR about Orrville Defensive front, I know there for a while they were holding teams to less than 100 per on the ground regularly. I believe Wooster's O line may be one of the best they faced all year. No reason in the world this game can't be won or lost in the trenches.
  • OQB
On a side note....nice win tonight by the cavs.
  • 62_80_47_Woo
    OQB, what happened to
Let's get back to the Orrville/Wooster game
    haha

I also believe if Orrville can manage to get into the Backfield, Devon Daugherty is easily rattled, this could prove to be a key to the game. When he gets rattled he has a bad habit of wanting to get rid of the ball early. In doing so he throws it with way to much air under it, then over compensates and starts turfing the ball. If he has room he's not afraid to tuck and run. Hopefully he can make the decision to tuck and run before his standard 2 int's...
  • THE4RINGZ
Yeah the tuck and run never works out for DD.

  • OQB

  • RedRider1
STO High School Preview Show....Friday at 3:30pm on STO....supposed to be a preview of the Orrville/Wooster game.

This is per the show host Mike Cairns who appeared on ESPN 990's Ray Jeske show yesterday.
  • OQB
Nice preview and very accurate. I think this team needs a BIG win over wooster and a shutout. If they can go into follis field with the big game pressure and just overwhelm wooster and win big, I will be a believer again. I just have to see that same team that played Triway....period!
  • THE4RINGZ
Orrrville QB did you find someone else to take your shift so you can make it to the game?
