Palm Beach Dwyer vs. Glenville in Herbstreit Challenge on ESPN

THE4RINGZI don't feel sorry for Florida either. They were obviously manipulating the game clock, but if you get a chance to see the ending bigred you'll understand how they got absolutley jobbed by the officials.

Pupanyone have a video of it? I had to leave for work and didnt get to see the finish

and Glenville players were jumping around celebrating and taunting the Dwyer kids as if they really earned the victory. You really have a hate for Florida don't you ? Don't you see all the other posts on this thread ? Its not about feeling sorry, or your experience with a handful of fans at a game. It's about CORRUPT officiating and what should have been a classic ESPN broadcast promoting national high school football, RUINED by these refs who blatantly robbed a team of a chance to win. It doesn't matter where the other team is from, the refs were DIRTY. -

bases_loadedI can understand missing the td catch. But the last 30 seconds was a mess. I mean who is to say they have enough time to run that play? The clock never started the play before

ThinthickbigredI wish I could have seen it to judge for myself . . You are right I do have a dislike for Florida teams yep . I dont like the Gators because they kicked my Buckeyes butts . I dont like Florida HS football because everybody says they are the best and if they are I want Ohio to take that away from them . I dont want to cheat anybody didnt see the game . I know them Florida kids would have loved dancing on that Ohio emblem though . I seen some stuff going back and forth before I had to leave and Florida was chirping too . Lets just make sure we get some more Florida teams next year in the Herby. OUR best against theyre best

Mohican00I saw most of this game and wow, the refs screwed Dwyer. Especially the last touchdown..how could you not see he was in? Just terrible officiating - I know one team that won't be competing in the Herbstreit Challenge anymore

SpeedofsandI hope NO schools from Florida accept an invite to be robbed like that again. Herbstreit Classic is now called Herbie's Hosejob. I will not be surprised to see him remove his name from this event.
thinskinbighead, send this man an email to thank him for your victory.

Cry me a river. It is unfortunate but if Florida schools want to take their ball and go home, then theres the door.
There is no one here that can say definitively that the ball was in the endzone, the camera was on an angle while I agree it looked like he was in, two guys on the goal line in stripes had the best angle and I hope they made the right call.
As far as Glenville players celebrating...they just won the game, Dwyer coaches were the ones ushering their kids off the field to the locker room. -
2quik4uanother ohio team beats a florida team because of a blown call?

Tiger20031st off the TD pass was a damn good catch, but for ref I will back him on that call. This is not college football or the NFL where you have instant replay. It was a very bang bang play and I have seen alot of College and NFL refs not get that call right but the instant replay saves them. That call could have went either way. The goal line call is tough call for us as fans. You could never see the ball clearly across the goal line yes it looked like his body was but you never saw the football.

The player was on the 1.5 yard line when the refs came running down the line. They could of assumed a TD I guess, and I don't think anyone would have disagreed. I agree it could have went either way and no matter which way it went people were going to be upset. -

You calling me names? I didnt say anything! Aint my victory Im from STEUBENVILLE !!!!! I said I dont want anybody to be cheated! Maybe it was a mistake dont know . I know the game was close when I was watching it and niether team looked far better than the other although I think Glenville was outplaying them somewhat but were making mistakes . ...........Speedofsand .....Why dont you did some of that sand out of your thong ,I think its irritating youSpeedofsand;473611 wrote:I hope NO schools from Florida accept an invite to be robbed like that again. Shut the hell up....you sound like a little girl...... -
SpeedofsandThinthickbigred, you also said you don't like Florida, Cocoa, Manatee, admitted you are jealous that Florida high school ball is considered better than Ohio, and said "I know them Florida kids would have loved dancing on that Ohio emblem though". How do you know that ? You missed the whole 2nd half, you don't have a clue. Why don't you watch the replays.
-
ThinthickbigredMore internet tough guys . You make me shut up . Im just being passionate about Ohio football . Obviously I dont know for a fact that they would have loved dancing on OHIO. But at the same time you dont know for a fact that they were delibertly cheated . They may have just made some bad mistakes . You guys sound like little girls complaining for Florida teams. First you call me names. Man this is an open public forum and I can debate all I want . I already stooped to your level once but now Ill try and act like an adult . but if you want to start talking trash I can do that too. .... Another thing I am not jealous in any way of Florida teams I know they are very good . I just want to stir up some OHIO pride . I thought this was OHIO . Maybe you guys are sellouts and like Florida sports or whatever . I doubt you are trying to be morally correct especially after you call me names.

ajwahoo2k2Poor officating. Nothing more. Just like in any fight, you do not want to leave it in the ref's hands.

SpeedofsandThinthickbigred, I'm more passionate for Ohio high school ball than Florida, I'm not biased either way. You are, but on this board you fit right in with at least a dozen regular trolls. I hope OSU beats Miami like a drum this week. Not because I'm a Gator for the last 20 years, because I was born and raised a Buckeye.
You can debate all you want, but your earlier posts were not debating. You were just hating on everything Floridian because your butt still hurts. Pride is being able to win fair and square, there is no Ohio pride for Glenville across Buckeye nation. Look at Yappi, JJ, Scout, Rivals, ESPN, etc. I'd say it looks like 97% say Dwyer got jobbed, give or take 3% margin of error. -
ThinthickbigredMy butt doesnt hurt . I am not hating . I thought this was an Ohio thread If I was hating I would be on a Florida thread . I only saw the first half . Whatever happened I dont know . Really to tell the truth dont care . I am not a troll either . I have plenty of football knowledge. Yea I was talking crap on Florida so what . they have been smacking our butts around and I dont like it I dont like the SEC because they OWN us . BUT I DO RESPECT THEM . Big difference I just want our Ohio teams to do well . I do not propose we cheat anybody that is bogus . I didnt realize so many Buckeyes would be bitter about a Florida team getting a bad call against them against one of our own.
Tell me what HS team do you support . I support Steubenville. -
THE4RINGZIf what happened to Dwyer were to happen to the big red I can only imagine your reaction.
Like I said earlier watch the end of the game and give a completely unbiased opinion of the officiating which I believe will prove the point people are trying to make. -
SykotykAs for ushering the players off the field. I think the issue was the first game appeared to have run long and the Smith-PC players were already out getting ready to warm up to start their game. The 'celebration' by Glenville was a few players high-stepping down the field, jawing at the Dwyer players, pointing, and bobbing their heads. Their coaches held them back, but I saw at least one flip the bird at the Glenville players.
Truth be told, that last attempt probably wouldn't have happened as the clock never started anywhere close to on time the previous play. Now, that was a joke. As for the catch. If there was replay, it would've been overturned. But in the moment it's hard to see whether he got it before sliding out of bounds. That's a tough call for a ref (especially a HS ref) to make. What makes matters worse, is if this was any other HS game, nobody would've complained. But, since it was televised, with a replay board, we got to see the play in slow motion in the stadium.
I still want to see another replay of the final play.
As for the rest of the game, Glenville played a hell of a second half to come back and take the lead after Dwyer had overcome an early deficit.

If they would have 7 officials instead of 5, an official would be right on the goal line not moving having a better look at this play.Tiger2003;473675 wrote:1st off the TD pass was a damn good catch, but for ref I will back him on that call. SykotykAfter seeing the final play again on SportsCenter, a quick comment. It appears beyond any doubt that he crossed the line.
My question, I guess, since SportsCenter's replay doesn't show it or the camera angle didn't get it, but where exactly was the ball when the play was over that the ref picked up to place for the next down? Was it picked up in the endzone, at the one, etc? Considering there was no sign that it was being held by another Dwyer player, I assume the QB had the ball, so where exactly was it when the ref grabbed the ball?
As for clock control, the refs screwed the pooch at the end. Not running it at the start of the one play, not stopping the clock to huddle to discuss anything, etc.
