Thanks for the links, good stuff.

I was reading some of squirms post on the other site very thoughtful. That is why I want him on here.

    The game line came out:

    #35 St Paul (Norwalk) (13-0, Region 21) by 25 (97%) vs Grove City Christian (12-1, Region 23)

Go whine to Drew Pasteur about Newark Catholic's tradition

He also has DeSales by 24 over Wyoming. Another poll on the same site has Wyoming ranked above DeSales. I usually miss game predictions the most when I allow myself to listen to the opinions of media guys. How many did he have Louisville beating Marion Franklin by? or #1 in the state Logan beating Brookhaven by? I guess I just don't get what point you're trying to make by posting Drew's opinion of this game when he for 1. doesn't know any more than anyone else and 2. Who was ever disputing that St. Paul is a big favorite.

Here's another good article summing up the game published yesterday.

    http://www.thisweeknews.com/live/content/grovecity/stories/2009/11/24/sports/1126grgcchr-football_sp.html?sid=104

    Here's the takeaway:
"St. Paul is the best well-disciplined team that we've seen yet and we're probably going to see," senior defensive back Cody Lucas said. "They're probably the fastest team we've seen yet and they're really built a lot like us. They play a lot like us."

The Eagles' 3-3 stack base defense will be looking to contain St. Paul's potent offense. The Flyers, who use pro-split and spread formations, are led by halfback Brian Griffin, who has rushed for more than 1,300 yards and has scored 26 touchdowns.

"They have a nice quarterback who throws a nice ball," coach Lucas said, referring to Eric Schwieterman. "They're a little bit more running back by committee, but they do have a 1,300-yard back. They have played some good Division V schools and blown them away.

"They're not an enormous team, they're just an athletic team."

Coach Lucas called cornerbacks Dan Tracht and Justin Wilde and freshman linebacker Isaac Livengood the key players in the Flyers' 4-4 base defense.

"Their goal is to stop the run," coach Lucas said. "They put a lot of people in the box. They'll put anywhere from six to eight people in the box. They have very active linebackers."

Grove City Christian will need another solid effort from running back Jessie Barns, the Division VI district Offensive Player of the Year, if it plans on reaching its first state championship game. Barns leads the Eagles' pistol spread offense, rushing for 1,648 yards and 19 touchdowns on 206 carries.

It was for those who were claiming all st paul fans are cocky. I was just pointing out that the odds guys are picking st paul and pretty big at that.

Not that it matters, but Issac Livengood is a Soph and a D tackle not LB.

Wesflyer - there was a very large flyer fan contingent at BW3 last weekend. I am sure there will be several there again this saturday. I am sure it will be a good time if you are still looking for a place to go.
  • wesflyer87
zaurus..thanks for the heads up. I'm planning on heading over fairly early. Anyone else going from NW Ohio?

St. Paul as said by previous posters, are a very disciplined team who are fundamentally sound a rarely make mistakes to beat themselves. They will again be undersized in this game as they have been all year along the O and D lines. Despite that fact, the Flyers have physically dominated almost all of their opponents up front with execution, quickness and hard work. Their team speed is the fastest this poster has seen at the small school level in my 35+ years of watching HS football. The skill players the Flyers pocess are extremely talented and very deep. The options this offense has are many and varied, run or pass. The special teams are always very good under Coach L., who knows how important a part of the game they can be. On defense their speed is very apparent when you see 11 red helmets flying to the ball. Pursuit angles and form tackling are taught from day 1, and it shows. Good luck to both squads Saturday night, hope we have an entertaing and injury free game!

    Yes.

Alright messy, what did you get me in to here? I can't even use my Eagle helmet as an avatar.
On to the game. The "this team beat that team and that team beat the other and therefore this team would beat that team"......blah...blah...blah.These are teenagers playing a game and logic has no remote place here. Teenage boys and logic???? The mere concept is hillarious! St Paul is formidable. There is no doubt about it. Beatable too. I watced the Wynford game again. GCC's speed and quickness is better than Wynford's and quite frankly right there with NSP.
    I love this....
    Division VI
    Delphos St. John's 1:3
    Norwalk St. Paul 3:1
    Marion Local 100:1
    Grove City Christian 1,000:1

    and this.....
    Division VI Semifinals
    #35 St Paul (Norwalk) (13-0, Region 21) by 25 (97%) vs Grove City Christian (12-1, Region 23)
    #12 St John's (Delphos) (13-0, Region 22) by 23 (95%) vs Marion Local (Maria Stein) (8-5, Region 24)

    and this........
    OHSAA Division VI Rankings
    1) St John's (Delphos) (13-0) 146.9
    2) St Paul (Norwalk) (13-0) 135.7
    3) Ada (12-1) 133.2
    4) Wynford (Bucyrus) (12-1) 124.0
    5) Leipsic (10-2) 123.6
    6) Marion Local (Maria Stein) (8-5) 123.3
    7) Carey (10-2) 121.9
    8) Mogadore (10-2) 119.1
    9) Hopewell-Loudon (Bascom) (9-3) 116.9
    10) Mc Donald (10-1) 113.3
    11) Mc Comb (7-3) 112.3
    12) St Joseph Central Catholic (Fremont) (9-2) 112.3
    13) Lehman Catholic (Sidney) (7-4) 112.3
    14) Malvern (11-2) 111.0
    15) John F Kennedy (Warren) (7-4) 110.6

It tells me too many NSP people are not understanding what they are getting here. No one, no one except for Eagle Nation gives this team a reasonable chance to win. The seniors took their lumps as freshmen and are exceptionally tough character guys. This is a dangerous situation for NSP. Who will win? I have no clue. All I am saying to those who predict a blowout, discount GCC at your peril.

    Squirmy,

    Welcome to the board.

What grade is a fresgnab (LOL)? I don't doubt that GCC will be one of the toughest opponents NSP has played all season. I'm sure that the coaching staff and players are prepapring for a big time test on the field Saturday. I just have the utmost confidence in this team that I think they won't be stopped. Ignorance maybe, confidence surely. I'm hoping for a great game and a NSP win. As a fan it's great to win like week 11 and 12, but to win a close one like week 13 was 10 times better. I'm sure you feel the same way.

    Again, welcome to the board.

For some mathmatical reason, your still the 2nd best team in Region 23 behind Malvern. Math doesn't always add up.
  • MessyDinosaur
Just a little counter here.Just to be fair, it doesn't seem like the GCC posters are giving the Flyers a chance here either.Quotes like "Well just you wait! other teams said we were oging to lose and look what happened!!!" We are picking our team, it's what fans do. I don't expect you to expect us to win. No one said your team is on a fairytale trip, or that you all have false hope! Many posters predicting blowouts are not even St.Paul fans (there are some, but it isn't like they are doing anything wrong?). Blow out posters are usually a 3rd party person who enjoys football and dropped off their opinion on the way to their own thread. For the most part St.Paul posters have been humble in the sense that they have not predicted blow outs, and they credited and congratulated GCC on their accomplished program in only four years. St.Paul fans are some of the classiest people I know. And if you think they are arrogant for posting their team to win then look in the mirror. I don't think anyone from GCC has picked themselves to lose.
  • CrazyHoosier
I will tell you from someone who has scene film on both teams, this is going to be a great match up, better than the fans from Norwalk St. Paul believe and better than the fans from GCC believe. These teams are mirror images of each other with the Eagles having a little bit of a size advantage on the line. This will be a great game and I believe both teams will bring their "A" game as a lot of people like to say! When I say mirror images I am saying they both are built on speed and tenacious "D" This one goes down to the wire in a close one.

Everything you just said are also the same qualities that many analysts and arm chair quarterbacks (old guys like us.. lol) have used this season to discribed the Grove City Christian team this year.

It's out landish for me to think we'll win... but then again (except for week one playoffs against roscranes) I've thought we'd lose... it'd be close, maybe 7-10 points. My common sense said these boys would give it their all.. but fall short but still end up with a very blessed year.

Frankly I'm shocked that we've all had the privilege of being able to talk about this team for the past 3 weeks... this entire experience is just a blessing for everyone involved in high school sports. It's really becoming like one of the tear jerk sports movies... Rudy, etc.

This will just be an awesome outcome this weekend regardless of the score. Both sides supporters will go home knowing they did accomplish something special this season!

Good luck to all the players and enjoy this special Thanksgiving tomorrow and say your prayers and give thanks for an incredible school year that you'll cherish remembering this time/this now/this moment 45 Thanksgivings from now! Even for your parents (they'll be really old in 2054).

    See everyone on Saturday evening!

GCC 30 - SP 29 (and that might go to OT..) Then again.. it could be 40-14 like the odds show it.. anyway that's my final prediction.

I think maybe what your missing is that when week after week you hear the same statements we've had about 'blow out', 'the real championship game was last week..", etc you begin to get a little 'annoyed'. So, you must understand when some of us GCC peeps say things like "Well just you wait!"... what you are not getting is that we are saying, "Well just you wait until you only beat us by 10.. or 14 or whatever". THAT is what we are talking about. We just have learned that guarrantted amounts of victory has been overrated week after week.

Look most points scored on GCC all season has been 16 and that was a 62-16 win. The 3rd, 4th and 5th stringers gave those up (mass jv/fresh sub in the 4th quarter). Also, all of those 'blowout games' where the oppenents id score any points where all against the practice squads also.

It's just perspective we are looking for.. this is a REALLY good team peeps!

No, math doesn't always add up! Must be that "new" math :-/

I averaged all the points for and against for all 13 games for both teams and came up with:
    GCC: 39-8
    NSP: 46-6

On paper, looks like NSP should win. However, that's what everyone said about GCC in the previous 3 playoff games. Not too shabby for a D6 Region 23 team, huh?
We'll see how it plays out on the field this Saturday...

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Have a great day tomorrow.

They dress appx 42 on a typical weekend. That's grades 9-12.

Dave I can see how that would get to you. Regardless the winner of this game, I want them to win state. Both teams searching for that first title. Delphos and Marion Local already have theirs, lets get ours.
  • Squirmydog
GCC has peaked late, which is great. I am not sure if many other GCC posters will agree, but I've notice an extra gear and an intensity coming off the bus that wasn't there early in the year. This team is playing with reckless enthusiasm. That is why they are so dangerous. If GCC takes it to NSP early, they could be in genuine trouble. This is the quickest team NSP will face this year and also the best conditioned. I know I am repeating myself for the umpteenth time, but GCC is quicker than Wynoford. I wish were Saturday now.

Thanks MD... as for Delphos... lets not go there.. isn't the state trophy shipped there at the beginning of every season and they only return it every 6-7 years?? LOL. THAT is a legend program.
