DIII; Region 11 ...... your thoughts

  • LocoEngineer66
Marlington has scored 62 & 55 points respectively in their first two games. It looks like Hall & Thomas may be unstoppable. Big test this week against Poland but I think it may be the same result.

Where did Marlington come from ? They never were anything much and now they are beating the war drum.
IC got a big win against John Hay , could they do it this year ? If they beat Oak Glen and Harrison and Edison and go atleast 7-3 they are in .
  • J-Dover
EL will NOT make the playoffs this year, Carrollton just spanked them..
Thinthickbigred;467257 wrote:Carrollton arent you in this region ? IC might put you out .
Steubenville and East Liverpool will make it this year Indian Creek has a good shot because they will come out strong but must win against Edison to put them in .
    Edison has an outside shot
Buckeye will be around 500 ball club but they could also nock IC out .
Harrison Central will contend as well . It is going to be a horse race down the stretch

Not at all! HAHAHA. Carrollton is a good squad, just not in the same league yet. Dover is a better squad, just not in the same league as Big Red; YET!

The folks down Death Valley way might have something to say about that.

i think marlington has a good shot at taking the region.. they played big red tough last year and they only got better this year.. so i see marlington doing real good this year as long as they all stay healthy

Too early to crown any kings yet. Only through two weeks of the season. Lots of "what ifs" out there.

    dukes,

You guys have to be excited as hell about this season. I think you guys win the NBC and very possibly region 11.

    Loco,
I'm curious, what exactly are you basing your prediction on? Is it the 62 - 20 of the Division V St Thomas Aquinas team that finished 3 - 7 last year; or the 55 - 10 beating they put on St Joan of Arc (ON) the Canadian team? I understand that Marlington was young last year and I have no doubt that Marlington is a much improved team from last year, but don't you think it might be a good idea to see how they fair against some real competition first? This week will be a true test for Marlington and will be a great indicator as to how they'll do the rest of the season and possibly in the playoffs.

Marlington played us chippy last year . Looked like those guys wanted a fist fight . They like said come on Big Red we want you . I kind of like that attitude in a FB team I will have to pay closer attention to this team . . The Buckeye 8 should squeez out a couple of playoff teams . I dont think they will do well in the playoffs but they should get a few in. Steubenville and Dover are again the favorites . Is Salem in the NBC?

Well, this week's game will tell you all you'll need to know. After Poland they play 5 region 11 teams, none of which will probably make the playoffs. Then they'll play Louisville and West branch the last two games of the season. My prediction will be that Marlington will finish the season 8 - 2 and enter the playoffs as the #4 seed.

I just know what they have returning. And I keep pretty good track of NBC teams over the years. Marlington's two running backs are gonna be unstoppable. They averaged 7 & 8 yards a carry last year as a frosh and soph. They have a better qb than they did last year. I honestly see them winning the NBC this year and as I said POSSIBLY winning region 11. I am not gonna say they will beat Big Red right now but if they ever could beat Steubenville this would be the year.

Salem joins the NBC next season.

Any thoughts on the West Branch@Salem game this week? Most people I've talked to believe that it comes down to WB controlling Toothman (a fairly obvious observation). Any other intangibles that could put WB on top? What do the Carrollton folks think after facing Salem in a scrimmage this year?
  • ManO'War
If there was a year to beat Big Red, it was last year...as we were young in a lot of spots, and undersized in others. Not like that this year.

I know it was just a scrimmage against us ... but Toothman did what he wanted when he wanted. I believe Salem will beat West Branch by a couple scores. No disrespect toward WB at all ... Salem should be better than their 8-2 team of last year. But I have been wrong more than once in my life ... lol.

You could be right ... all I am saying is this could possibly be Marlington's best team in school history if they stay healthy.

Salem needs to play better defense, particularly against the pass. If they do that they should win, as there is no doubt they will score points. I like the Quakers, 28 - 17.

Salem had a nice squad last year . What do they have this year?

They return eight starters on defense and eight on offense. It's a mixed bag, 20 seniors but a young receiving corp that should improve as the season goes on. Senior Trent Toothman (QB) accounted for 3000 yards last year. 2000 in the air and 1000 rushing. They have three running backs that aren't dominant but do a good job of keeping teams off balance. The biggest loss to graduation is Ben Eisel who was Mr Everything last year and first team All-Ohio. Should be able to finish in the top eight in the region again.

I will say this about Marlington... If you play Big Red you had better have speed. They have it. They played a very good game against Big Red last year and they have a lot returning... This team would be one that Big Red may want to avoid if possible. Maybe not this year, but it would be a hard fought game...

Am I correct that Salem was in the playoffs for the first time last year?
How long has the coach been there seems like they have upped the anty these past couple of years .

I dont think they will sneak up on us we will be ready for them . What about IC are they going to win those iffy games this year like Union Local and St C and Buckeye? The way I see it IC can go anywhere from 6-4 this year to 9-1 but 7-3 will get you in .
