DIII; Region 11 ...... your thoughts

  • OQB
Didn't know it was splitting up....that's good for Dover. Their non league games already are very good with Canfield and Ashland. I wish they would bring Dover back to the Orrville schedule, that was always a great game, and the winner always got tons of computer points.

maybe Dover could get Big Red on the schedule as a non-league game too.

I don't see Minerva dropping to 7 but I do like that they are the second fav to win the region.

Interesting odds. I'll take Steuby at 10:1 all day long, and retire comfortably to a tropical island.

It's hard to know really how good Steubenville actually is.

Mooney and Ursuline are both excellent, so losing to them doesn't mean much, and it is hard to judge based only on the West Virginia teams because they are such an unknown quantity.

That being said, 10:1 seems extreme. And while Marlington are in a great position to win this, 4:5 isn't giving Steubenville much credit.

But the thing is we lost to Massillon and Ursuline. I'm a gambler so where do I place my bet !

If Licking Valley can put points on the board, then watch out for the Panthers. Their D is the real deal and they certainly know how to win. Go Panthers.

Question...If Dover and Edison win out, does Dover still get in? Going to be a wild final 2 weeks.

Only if someone else dropped out, Which could potentially happen to Minerva or Salem

wow no one is giving Minerva even a chance.. everyone saying they will drop out or just get the 7th or 8th seed? they have only lost one game which was to the number 1 team in the state in division 3 now and they had there chance to win that... I think Minerva wins this week and could lock up a playoff berth and i honestly think to we can beat Louisville which should get us to prob 4th and a home game

Ya think Minerva is going to drop out ... no way ... they are NOT the second favorite to win the region because they suck.
  • crimsondave
I don't think Minerva sucks but they have beaten only one team with a winning record. I just don't understand when these teams that have never won before. get all this hype and i'm talking about all the teams in the region who are newcomers to the playoffs not just Minerva.
  • Caturdayz
I'm not saying Minerva sucks, I'm just saying if they lose to Louisville they COULD fall out.

    And Minerva gets fourth if...

    1. They beat Louisville
    2. Salem loses to Lakeview
    3. East Liverpool loses to Salem AND John Marshall

We have had alot of bad luck this year with injuries ,alot moreso than most years . We played two good WVA teams in Brooke and Morgantown and we played a very strong McKeesport team .. Also Inkster as an opener wasnt an easy game at the time so we thought . Confidence is a really big thing also with HS teams so we have to get somewhat healthy by the end of the year come playoff time

Injuries are an ugly part of football. Most teams are compromised to one degree or another at some time through the season. Good coaches and good teams move on and don't dwell on it.
Good fans can do the same.
  • J-Dover
East Liverpool gets beat by Carrollton 47-19, who Dover beat 63-14, and yet EL is at the number 3 seat and Dover is the 9th? What? Dover's two losses come from 6-2 Division II teams. EL one loss is to the DIII (4-4) team that Dover smoked! How's that work?

    LET'S GO DOVER!!!!

East Liverpool would have to lose twice? we wont get enough for beating Louisville?? just a question now

That might be good philosophy but in the real world of the lower divisions, coaching staffs are forced to dwell on injuries. The numbers come into play. For the most part, lower division teams need their first teams healthy as there are no plug and play substitute numbers to work with. Coaches are forced to dwell on the situation at hand to try to find combinations that provide the timing and the best players to carry on.

Now if you are referring to using injuries as a crutch or excuse, that's another story.

    Cheers.

Yes...yes it is. (My post was not directed toward any comments I'd heard COACHES make!)

Here's how i would like to see it play out:

    1. marlington 10-0
    2. Stueby 8-2
    3. Sheridan 10-0
    4. East Liverpool 9-1
    5. Licking Valley 8-2
    6. Edison 9-1
    7. Minerva 8-2
    8. Dover 8-2

    Why you might ask?
Week 1: Dover has a good chance to beat Marlington. HOW? Marlington's D is weak against the pass, Dover's D is strong against the run. We all know Marlington's O is running all over the place and Dover's O will throw the ball up and down the field.
Week 2: Dover vs. East Liverpool match up would play in our favor too. We smashed Carrollton at home, and Carrollton smashed EL at EL's house. We should win again.
    Week 3: Anything is possible!!!

    GO DOVER GO!!!!

The combined win/loss record of the teams EL has beaten is 26/29, for Dover it's 15/33. Our Level 2 points(or lack of them) is really hurting us.
The ECOL is so weak this year we don't have opportunity for many Level 2 points.

I too am expecting to see a Dover-Marlington first round, and that suits me fine.
I'd like to see Marlington play and we might as well tackle the best right up front(pun intended). As good as their running is supposed to be they must have a very good offensive line and that's where Dover will be put to the test!
